“You had my grandson on the side of the road?” Mum whisper-yelled, coming into the private hospital room an hour later with a gift bag, flowers and balloon that said ‘It’s a boy.’ “Why didn’t you get Elly to the hospital earlier?”
“Hi, Mum. Nice to see you too. Come and meet your grandson, Lionel Peter Fox. 7 pounds 10 ounces and 20.5 inches long” I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes as she picked Lionel up from the portable crib and sat down next to Elly’s bed. “As for why, ask Elly that question. The first we knew about her having contractions was just before her waters broke.”
