35When I arrived at the office that Monday, I felt exhausted from the weekend. I picked up a message from Frances Schwartz on the answering machine.
“Hi Bernie. I've got some bad news I'm afraid. The sponsor's pulled the plug on the show. I really can't say why. We are all bitterly disappointed. I think it must be political or something. It certainly doesn't have anything to do with you. Needless to say, this has left us scrambling. We're supposed to go to air in five weeks. I'm looking for a new sponsor but I wouldn't want to give you false hopes or anything. I'm really sorry but this has hit us hard too.
