Chapter 10Kim watched the chaos unfold below them with considerable annoyance.
Ms. Connie Baxter-Yan’s consciousness had failed to transfer correctly. While it would probably take at least a week to determine at exactly what point and precisely how it went wrong, Kim was confident that the culprit was interference. Although commonly referred to as a void, space was anything but, and the transfer process was an incredibly delicate one. Ms. Baxter-Yan’s death was a result of bad luck and poor reception.
Although not strictly true, Kim reminded themself. Her body had been very much alive, just devoid of her mind. An empty shell, ironically, just as the homunculus she had been sent to inhabit.
