Chapter 1
Lilith’s POV Everything was dark. The world around me had stopped and I felt at peace- All the worries, all the doubt, all the pain and hate and guilt I felt before had passed. “LILITH!” Who was calling my name? I opened my eyes slightly. Water surrounded me and a hand reached out towards me. “Come back to me.” I instinctively took the hand and I was pulled out of my dark, serene world. **One year earlier** “Well looks like you’re all ready to go.” My sister glanced down at me as I finished fluffing out her dress. The wedding dress looked beautiful on her as it clung to her waist and flowed down to the ground, the back was open and went down towards her lower back. Her dirty blonde hair was twisted into a low, messy bun. Little flowers adorned her hair. Her makeup was a nude color, making her blue eyes pop. She was the definition of perfection. “I’m so nervous Lily, what if he doesn’t like what he sees? What if he just leaves-“ I took her hands in mine and smiled. “He isn’t going to leave and he will absolutely drool over how you look. Trust me.” Today was the first ceremony the packs had in nearly ten years. And to make it more special, it was the ceremony of Running Waters future Luna. Vivian Wade Myers, eldest heir to the late Alpha Myers. My eldest sister, and only living relative. “This day has to be perfect.” She sighed and grabbed my hand. “I wish mom and dad were here to see this.” My heart sank and my eyes looked at the picture of them sitting on the desk. I didn’t remember much about them but Vivian did and she blamed herself everyday for the past 16 years. “I miss them too Viv. They would be proud of you.” I smiled at her and grasped her hand tightly as the door opened. “Miss Vivian and Miss Lilith. The guest are ready for you.” An elderly women in her late 60s said. “Thank you Ms. Fritz, we’ll be out there shortly.” She nodded and closed the door. My eyes met with Vivian’s and she nodded. We looked in the mirror and I looked at how different we were. Unlike her dirty blonde hair, I had my dark brown hair braided down my back with pearls in several places in my hair. My dress was a champagne color as I was her Maid of Honor. Everyone would tell us how much we looked like our parents. My sister took after my mother and I took after my fathers looks. I turned my face away from the mirror and walked with her towards the double doors that led to the ceremony. “Ready?” I asked and she just chuckled softly as she stared nervously at the doors. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” I motioned to the men standing at the doors to open them. Over a least a hundred people stood up and stared at us. The music started and I felt Vivian grip my arm tighter. I gave her a soft smile and sighed. Together we walked down the aisle and I noticed her mate across the ways from us staring at Vivian with such adoration and love. We made it to the end and I took Vivian’s hand and placed it in her mate’s. “Who is giving this lovely bride away?” The officiant asked and I raised my hand slightly. “I am sir.” He nodded and I stood back at Vivian’s side, leaving enough room between me and her for their pictures. The ceremony didn’t take long before they took turns marking each other. I felt a tug at my heart as I watched them. A want for the love they had. In time. My wolf, Juno, spoke for the first time all day and I narrowed my eyes at her as everyone began following after my sister and her new husband for the reception. So now you want to show up. I was merely giving you space for your sister. I bit my tongue as I realized that she had a good excuse for not speaking to me all day. I walked along with everyone towards the reception and quickly grabbed a glass of champagne. I needed this all day. Between getting my sister ready and making sure everything was perfect, my body felt like it was going to drop from exhaustion. “Lilith!” I groaned softly as I turned to see my new brother-in-law walking towards me. Can’t we have a little peace and quiet for five minutes! Juno groaned and agreed silently before forcing a smile. “Matthew, congratulations!” We gave each other hugs and I pulled back to take another sip of my drink. Matthew was one of the best warriors in the pack and the chosen alpha after my father passed. He had blonde curly hair, light blue eyes and a well-built body that any girl would drool over. The Moon Goddess blessed my sister well making Matthew her mate. “Thank you.” He smiled as his eyes found Vivian talking to the guests and it made me happy to see how much he adored his Luna. “You make sure to take care of my sister or else-“ I warned making him laugh. “We always have room for another warrior amongst our rank you know. I’ve sent the offer to you several times and I have yet to hear an answer.” I sighed. Damn. I knew he would say something about that. “I’ve been meaning to tell Vivian, but she’s been so happy for the past few months and I just didn’t have the heart to tell her.” I started as I watched my sister wave at us with a smile. Matthew turned to me once more with a slight frown. “What do you mean?” Do I tell him? Should I wait? How do I even start? For the goddess’s sake, just tell him. I sighed. “Matthew, I’m leaving the pack.” His eyes went wide. “Leaving?” “Yes, Running Waters is in good care and I need to find what I’m meant to be-.” I stopped mid sentence when I noticed his brows furrowed in a frown as if he was in deep conversation. “Matthew what-“ “GET DOWN NOW!” My eyes found Vivian’s and I tried to get to her but an explosion stopped me. The impact of the explosion sent me flying into a nearby table. My head was pounding and I couldn’t hear anything except for the ringing in my ears. My body ached as I sat up slowly trying to regain my consciousness. People were screaming and there were small fires everyone around me. I noticed a small group of men with full black attire walking towards us and firing at my pack members. Get up. Get up! Find Vivian! Juno growled in my ear as I found the strength to get up and stumble around trying to find my sister. My once gorgeous dress was ripped and dirty. Doesn’t matter. All that matters is finding my sister. My eyes scanned where she was before the explosion, only she wasn’t there anymore. “Viv? VIVIAN!?” I screamed out for her but she didn’t answer. The only thing that seemed to answer my calls were the screams or the firing of guns. “Viv-“ A strong force grabbed onto me and put a hand over my mouth tightly. I muffled into their hand, trying to best to free myself from their grasp. My screams were useless as the person who held onto me dragged me towards the other trespassers. “Sir, I found this beauty walking around.” A rough voice chuckled, disgusting me. I frowned and tried to break free, only to be stopped by his hand grabbing my jaw and squeezing tightly. I whined in pain and felt tears springing to my eyes. “Don’t even try it sweetheart!” His breath was hot on my neck and I felt like throwing up. “What do we have here.” My eyes darted to a man in a black suit. Cleaned as if he didn’t do anything dirty his entire life. Only the scene around me told me otherwise. My heart pounded against my chest as I smelled something enticingly good. And the worst part was. It was coming from the man that walked closer to me. His short, wavy hair was darker than a ravens feather. His body was muscular and something worth drooling over. And his eyes. His eyes were icy blue swirling with confusion as he stared coldly at me. My knees felt weak and I whine in fear. Juno whispered the words that I wish she never would. But she didn’t have to tell me. The man holding me pushed me to towards the man and my legs felt like jelly as I stumbled. I fell to his feet and my heart pounded loudly against my chest as his hand caressed my cheek. I closed my eyes and sighed softly at how amazing his touch felt. But the feeling was quickly gone when he gripped my jaw between his hand and pulled me up, his eyes across from mine. I clawed at his hand and whimpered as he smirked at me. “Mate.” No. Please no. He seemed to be satisfied with my reaction as fear flickered in my eyes. He glanced at the scene before him and let me go from his grasp. My body crumpled to the ground like a rag-doll and I tried to crawl away but was stopped by his hand grabbing my hair. I screamed in pain as he dragged me back, the rubble scraped against my skin and I felt pieces of glass cut my legs. “LET HER GO!” My eyes darted to the voice and felt relieved when Matthew and Vivian were standing near us. Our packs bodyguards pointing guns towards us. My mate growled in annoyance. “Someone is always trying to be the hero.” He glanced at me. “Do you want to know what happens to those who try to stop us?” I shook my head as he lifted me up by my hair, leaving my screaming in pain. Why? Why me? “LILI!?” Vivian cried and tried to run towards me but was stopped by Matt. He whispered something to her and she nodded, crying as she stood back. “Lili,” the man looked at me with a malicious grin, “Such a pretty name.” My stomach churned with fear. “Please let me go.” I whimpered to the man. I saw him glanced at me with a pained looking before it was quickly replaced with hatred. “Shut it, or I’ll shut you up myself.” He growled. He took a gun out of the nearest person’s hostler and pointed it at my family. “Leave now and there won’t be any more trouble from us.” He warned, but I knew Matt. He wouldn’t give up so easily. Right? “Give us our pack member then!” Matt yelled back gesturing to me. The man just chuckled. “Not a chance. I don’t just give away my priced possessions.” We are not a price! Juno growled in anger and I clawed at his hand to free myself, but all it did was cause him to grip the hair against my scalp tighter. “Give her ba-“ Bang! A gunfire echoed through the air and Matt fell to the ground, holding his shoulder tightly as Vivian ran to his side immediately. Anger burst through me as I let Juno take over. Her anger spread through every cell in my body. “YOU BASTARD! YOU F****ING BASTARD!” Juno screamed at our mate but all he did was throw us over his shoulder. “Take care of this..mess.” The man told one of his pack members and I watched my family disappear from my view as we got further away from the scene. Juno retired from exhaustion and tears flowed down my cheeks as we were thrown into a vehicle. I watched the only thing I’ve ever known burn as we drove off. I stared at our captor with hatred as he just stared back with curiosity. I would do everything in my power to avenge my pack. Or die trying.
