1480 Words
There was a resounding silence at this time by other employees of the office as they overheard Mr. Bright's loud voice and yelling, they all knew he was verbally attacking Miss Bright as she has always been the commonest victim of his embarrassment. She was now seated back inside her office and continued to cry until her eyes turned red and swollen face. Then again, she quickly rushed to the office restroom and turned up the water, washed up her face, and looked straight at the wall mirror, then she said to her reflection “I am strong and bold, I am not going to be broken by this complete scum!” She then tied up her hair using a hairband and pulled it towards the back of her head which now revealed a pure and clean side profile. When she stepped out, everyone was in awe. She went inside her office and took a chilled glass of cold water, a big mouthful of it. And the chilling of the water ran through her throat down to the underneath of her stomach, and she breathed out relaxedly. On the next day in the office, as Miss Light Holgan was diligently performing her work as the office secretary early in the morning, Mr. Bright Darvis just walked in with Miss Beatrice, his girlfriend. A tall beautiful girl with a model-like appearance but always presents herself to be on the high horse all the time whenever around Mr. Bright. As they walked past her without uttering a word, even when she greeted them, they snubbed her, and as usual gave her a hateful look and entered Mr. Bright's office slamming the door loudly. In a while, he called Miss Light to his office where Miss Beatrice was also already seated, and asked her to get both of them a bottle of red wine. She descended to the office downstairs to get it, she opened the refrigerator, brought a bottle of wine and placed the red bottle inside the bucket and two wine glasses and proceeded back to her boss's office. She gently knocked on the door and as she swung the office doorknob open and took a step inside the office, the first thing she saw was Miss Beatrice on her boss’s lap passionately kissing him, and moaning as he caressed the sensitive upper part of her body and was already pants down still unaware of her presence, she glared at both of them for a minute and lightly coughed unnaturally to draw their attention. On hearing her mild sound behind, she quickly jumped off from his lap where he was seated looking a little bit surprised, and smartly pulled his trousers up and she too stylishly pulled down her skimpy tight skirt. Luckily, for him, his personal office is not made of see-through glass but all other offices are, otherwise it could have been a big show for all other employees of the company. Can't you knock before you enter my office?! I am sorry sir. She pretended as if she didn't see anything and placed the bucket of wine on his desk, but she was about to walk out of the office when her boss yelled at her and said “you don't know you are supposed to pour the wine into the glasses. Pour the wine and smell away from my sight, you poor wretched good-for-nothing girl”. She felt a stab of annoyance at his words but decided within her to contain her emotion. She was visibly shaking as she was already tensed. some of the wine she was pouring into the glasses spilled on the floor. Miss Beatrice, who is now seated opposite him. Sighed at her, she glanced down at her dress and scoffed, looking at the kind of clothes she was putting on; “Such a dirty rag. I will keep you where your kind rightly belongs”, make sure you come to my house this weekend to run chores for me. Because that is what you deserve. At this point, Miss Light gritted her teeth and was fuming with anger but she gulped it. Ignoring her talk, Beatrice saw this, fiercely stood up from her seat firmly held her on her shoulder, and screamed at her to pay attention whenever she addresses her, Miss Light lost it at this time, she has crossed the line this time. she shoved her away as she staggered backward and almost fell on the ground, and in a heat of passion she said “Don't ever in your entire life dare touch me again! with an intense look on her face. Immediately, Mr. Bright, who was there gazing at the event of things, just like a protective lion, charged towards her, held onto her neck firmly, and said “How dare you speak to my fiancee in such a disrespectful manner”. He pinned her to the wall holding her neck was so tight that she was unable to speak and was gasping for air. It took a while before he could release the grip he had on her. She fell on the wall to catch a breath and then squatted. Her face widened and tears slowly poured out from her eyes, in anger as she couldn't hold it any longer, she screamed at her boss not to ever again his miserable life, lay his filthy fingers on her again and inaudibly muttered words and also cursed him in her mind. He and his girlfriend with their mouths wide open were struck with shock and transfixed as to what gave her the boldness and temerity to speak to her boss to the hearing of other employees in such a disrespectful manner. She sadly walked past her colleague in the office still muttering words, entered her office, picked up her personal things, and cleared her desk. And in an angry tone said, "I am resigning, I wouldn't like to work in a place where I am being treated as trash". Upon saying this she swung the exit door open and slammed it very hard behind her. Just then, the boss's girlfriend, who was also on her feet, asked “how could you allow such a good-for-nothing low-life girl to talk to you in front of your employees in such a despicable way, this is intolerable and she must apologize”, Mr. Bright's girlfriend retorted. “Don’t worry I will handle it”, said Mr. Bright. Other employees quickly gazed at each other and suddenly remembered that their boss could be watching them from the CCTV camera and glued back to their seats and resumed their official tasks. Mr. Bright Darvis slowly and thoughtfully sat down leaning back on his seat, still stunned as no girl had ever spoken to him with so much courage and fearlessness. And Miss Light said to her friend (Grace); “at that time in my life, if an opportunity presented itself and Mr. Bright Darvis was at the cliff edge, I would be the one to push”! On hearing this Grace’s eyes almost popped out from her suchet. Do you mean that? “Do I look like I am joking, I mean it with all seriousness”. As the duo was conversing about the whole predicament, unknown to them that her mum had been eavesdropping on their private conversation not until she groaned, they quickly turned their back and looked straight in the direction to see who was wailing. Surprisingly, it was Miss Light’s mum crying tearfully on hearing all the ordeal her daughter had gone through in life and what she intended to do in offering her kidney in exchange for saving her father’s life. Both walked closer to her and Miss Light held her mum’s hands passionately and both hugged each other. Miss Grace, who was now standing spellbound, could not help it even though she tried hard to fight back her tears to console both her friend and her mum but couldn’t. She stylishly used her left backhand to wipe away the tears already well up in her eyes. “please, my daughter, you are not going to donate your kidney to anybody, we must find other ways to save your father’s life”. Mum, there is no other way except the only offer we have on ground. She pulled herself away from her daughter, still holding her on her two shoulders, and tearfully said, “if you accept to do it, I will kill myself. I can’t stand to lose my only child, you are all I got in this life”. Okay, Mum, we will look for other alternatives to save Dad! Now let us go inside mum is getting colder outside. She held her mum’s hand and walked towards the house and Miss Grace followed behind.
