Chapter 1: The Crimson Case
Rain lashed the streets of Seoul, soaking the yellow tape that marked the perimeter of yet another gruesome crime scene. Emergency lights pulsed red and blue against the wet asphalt, casting eerie shadows over the lifeless body sprawled beneath the white sheet. This was the fourth victim in as many weeks — all killed with the same precision, the same signature carved into their skin: a single Chinese character, "*" — shadow. Inside the temporary command center, tension hung in the air. Korean detectives moved quickly, eyes hollow from sleepless nights. Among them stood Kang Hyunwoo, a seasoned detective with a sharp mind and an even sharper gaze. He stared at the case board, lined with photographs, maps, and forensic reports. Nothing connected. No motive. No pattern. Just fear. "We need help," said Chief Choi, voice low and heavy. "Call them. The Black Eagle Unit." Thousands of kilometers away, in the heart of Beijing, a sleek black van rolled into an underground facility. The doors slid open to reveal seven figures, their expressions serious but calm. The Black Eagle Unit — the most elite detective team in China. Zhōu Yīchén , their chief, met them with his usual stoic presence. "Pack light. Seoul needs us." Lín Ruòxī tightened her gloves, her sharp eyes meeting his. "Serial killer?" "Worse," he replied. "One that speaks our language." With that, the team boarded the plane, each member silently preparing. Ruòxī sat beside Zhāng Lěi, the hacker who never went anywhere without her dual laptops. "Bet you I crack their surveillance in under two hours," Lěi said, smirking. "Only if they use real encryption this time," Ruòxī teased back. Zhào Hàotiān and Sòng Yǔtóng were already reviewing past crime scenes on their tablets, while Chén Jiāyào and Lǐ Zhìkǎi were deep in strategy discussions. Seoul Incheon Airport. The Korean task force stood ready to meet the Chinese team. Kang Hyunwoo watched as the seven figures walked toward him with quiet confidence. Their leader stepped forward. "Zhōu Yīchén, Chief Investigator." Hyunwoo bowed. "Kang Hyunwoo. Welcome to Korea." Then his eyes met Ruòxī’s. She was tall, composed, with eyes that scanned him in a split second. He stiffened slightly. "Detective," she said simply. "You’re the fighter, right? Martial arts?" "Among other things," she replied, brushing past him. He turned to his colleague. "This is going to be interesting." That night, the Black Eagle Unit moved into their new command base — a sleek facility equipped by the Korean government. Within an hour, Zhang Lěi had hacked into every available CCTV feed in the city. The others gathered around a table filled with files. "No DNA, no fingerprints, no blood left behind," Zhào Hàotiān said. "But look at this," Jiāyào added, placing a map over the city layout. "The victims are positioned in a spiral pattern." "A symbol? Or a countdown?" Zhìkǎi asked. "We’ll know soon enough," Yīchén said. "For now, rest. Tomorrow, we start the hunt." But none of them truly rested. Least of all, Ruòxī — who stood on the rooftop of their building, watching the rain fall over Seoul. "Couldn’t sleep?" a voice asked. She turned. Hyunwoo. "You either, it seems," she replied. He joined her, holding out a small flask. "Green tea. Nothing special." She accepted it. Their fingers touched briefly. "You’ve seen killers like this before?" he asked. "No," she said softly. "But I’ve seen worse." "Then maybe we’ll stand a chance." Their eyes met again. Something unspoken passed between them. The shadows of Seoul were deepening, and the Crimson Killer was still out there. But so were they. And the hunt had just begun
