CHAPTER FIVE

I just ignore it and go on about my business. I fixed some of the rocks that had got knocked out of place. Checked on the flower beds to make sure that the dirt was packed right around the beautiful plants. Then I heard the house clicking. I look up from the flowers and watch as the metal comes down over the windows. Hmmm that might be a problem. Good thing I am already inside my gate. I guess I will be sleeping outside. Not a huge deal. Carla would love to sleep outside under the moon. I can already hear her purring in my head. I love it when she is happy. Josie Dodson. There it is again. I am sure I heard someone saying my name. Josie. I start looking around, but I do not see anyone. Josie. Come to the fence I have an envelope for you. I look toward the fence. In the tree line I can barely see a person. As I get closer the eyes are red. I know this is a vampire, but not one of the usual ones that bounce off of my fence. This is an older one. I stop looking in the eye, but I do slowly walk closer to the fence. Curiosity is getting the better of me about how a vampire not only knows my name, knows I am here, but also has an envelope for me. Josie, I will not hurt you, and my hypnosis will not work on you. Nobody's hypnosis will work on you, no matter what type of being they are. How do I know that you are telling me the truth? At this time there is no way for me to prove that what I say is the truth. Please, I have an envelope that I am to deliver to you. In the morning it will be here, under this rock, right here. Come get it. Come alone. This information is for you alone. I have been waiting for you to turn eighteen. Why not throw it over the fence? Why is it that everyone is waiting on me to turn eighteen? I am unable to do that. It will take too long. No matter what type of being you are, eighteen is the first level of adulthood. The black wolf is coming. He is always watching you. Be careful of him, he is always watching you. First level of adulthood? I did not know that there were levels. Goodbye Josie. I really have to go now! I hope that I will see you again. Then the vampire is gone. Why would he hope to see me again soon? Seconds later, Blackie shows up and shifts back to Dennis who grabs some shirts in a tree. Josie, why are you outside? Your house has locked up. Go to the gym house. You can not get in your house, but the lock down has not been added there yet. I smell vampires out here. Have you seen any? No. I thought I heard something, but have not seen anything. It is not for you to go chasing after anything you hear, smell, or see. That is and always will be my job. But this is my land inside this fence. That does not matter! It is still my job! Why are you out here so late? I was looking at all the new stuff, and ah I lost track of time. Well, go to the gym and lock yourself in. I’ll keep a good look out on your fence tonight. Ok Thanks Dennis! That’s all I need is him keeping a good look out of my fence. If he kept any better look out he would be living in my house with me. I turn and go to the new gym. I can shift into Carla and sleep on one of the pads. Carla always loved shifting. Even if it is not under the moon. Isn’t it her right to do as she pleases, when she pleases, inside her own fence, on her own land? What right does he have to tell her what to do inside her fence? Carla lays down on the mat. They sleep quite well like that. But the subject of Dennis always watching her bothers her all night. Dreams of her wearing a prison outfit and Dennis wearing a guard outfit. By morning she is quite pissed off at the protection situation around here. First thing in the morning I go in the house and shower and change. She was sure that no matter what she was going to go get that envelope today. It would not hurt anything if she just looked at what the envelope had. When she tried to go out the gate, Dennis was already there. He is always here. She knew she would have to sneak past him to get to that envelope, that just pissed get off more. The damn rock was just outside her fence line. Where are you going? No where. Just walking the fence. Coming mainly to see the work on the new building. Looks like they are almost done with it. You want to go to breakfast? Yeah. The girls should be in it for the next full moon. Ahh no. Not hungry yet. I will likely go for an early lunch, or dinner. I do not know. I got food in the house, might just stay home today. Oh ok. Well, I will let Sarah know that you might not be in today. I’ll talk to you later. Oh! I bet you didn't sleep well last night haha. That will teach you to not get locked out of your house again! Actually I did. I shifted and slept on an exercise pad. I also do not intend to put time locks on the gym, just in case it happens again. You really need to have all of your house under the time lock. If it is not it might provide a weakness in the security. I am sure that the door that connects the two parts being secured is enough. But thank you for your ah concern, Dennis. I bet Carla loves being able to shift. Yes she does. Ok, well I’m heading into town. I will talk to you later. Oh I am sure I will have the pleasure of your never ending company a couple more times today. He finally drives off. I make it over to the rock and under it is a big envelope. I grab it and get back to the house. I lock everything up behind me. I throw the envelope on the bed. Then go to security, and change the main command code. Before I can get on the bed Dennis is back at the gate. I buzz him in and go up to the porch. This guy is really starting to get on my nerves today! You could not have had time to eat your breakfast! I ah got it to go. I wanted to talk to you some more about your security. There is no need. I have read all the information. Not to mention you are only a phone call away. I know that, but you do not seem to understand just how dangerous it is out here at night. I am not a child, Dennis. I understand completely the dangers of things that go bump in the night. But you do not seem to understand that inside this gate is my property. I am an adult. I expected to be treated as an adult, and with respect for my territory. Every single time I turn around you are here. Every single time I want to go out my gate, you are here. If I do not go to town, or at least call and check in every single day, they call you. I do not know what you are to me, but at this time, you are not enough to lock me down for any reason at all. Sometimes I wonder if coming here was worth being locked up in a prison. Wow! I did not think that you felt that way Josie. I was just trying to keep you safe like your uncle would have wanted. You mean the uncle that never checked on me in person during my life? The uncle that snuck around and left things in secret that you actually picked out or made? That uncle cared for you Josie! He made this place for you. He just wanted you safe. He left everything to you. Money is not everything, and this place is nothing but a prison to me. I would have rather had him just stop by and say hello. His letters to me tried to make him sound better than my father, but to me they were the same. They just left me and thought that giving me money would make up for them staying out of my life. I am leaving now Josie. I hope that you will be in a better mood tomorrow. Oh? You mean you're not going to make your usual two more check ups on me today? What if I do not go into town to eat? Oh, pretty please be waiting at my gate first thing, or would you rather I give you the new master code, so you can be sitting on my porch when I try to sneak out? That is enough of that young lady! You are not an adult yet, and until then you are still under my protection! In fact, check your contract that you signed. Even as an adult you and everyone here are under the protection of this pack. I might not be the Alpha, but I damn sure am the Beta. You will respect me! You may now leave your highness, my beta. He got into his suv and left. Should I feel guilty? Did I go too far? For some reason I do not think that I did. I go back into my house locking everything back up again behind me. Why, I do not know the damn house locks itself up right on time every damn night. I finally climb into the bed and open the envelope.
