HAYLEY I opened my eyes and I saw nothing but darkness, no single form of light. I could not even feel Artella anymore, It felt like I had returned to how I was before I met her. I turned and somewhat faraway, I saw a form of light shaped like a door. I walked an walked till I got to it, walking through the light, I was met with a beautiful garden. There were beautiful flowers and butterflies all around. It felt so surreal. “Wow” I whispered to myself, as I had never been to a place so beautiful, I felt like I was surrounded by nature. “But the last thing I remembered was hitting a tree uhhh” I breathed in “Am I dead?” I asked myself then I heard a very beautiful voice call out to me. “Welcome my child”, the voice said and I turned, only to find the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Her skin felt like it was glowing, almost radiant, her hair a silky black and long hair, and she had on a flowing, white gown, her face so pretty, I couldn’t help but stare. “The moon goddess” Artella finally spoke, immediately I kneeled in greeting. “Stand my child, you do not have to kneel to me, I am your mother, after all” She spoke again, her voice so soft and smooth, it could put me asleep, but her words made me very confused. “My mother? What do you mean?” “You see, my child.” She started speaking while she lead me into the garden. “There was a time, when I was still on earth, I fell deeply in love with a very handsome man, who is also called Lucifer. Time passed and I got pregnant and in order to keep you safe, I sent you to Lisa because she prayed desperately for a female child.” She choked on the verge of tears “But my child I have long been regretting that decision if I had known I wouldn’t have sent you to her, I didn’t know they would eventually turn out wicked and cruel, I am so sorry child” she explained in tears. “Its okay, don’t cry” I reached out, wiping her tears, although this whole information was a bit hard to digest, I could not just watch her cry. “You wouldn’t have known they would turn out that way, so… You are saying that my father is Lucifer? Do you mean ‘the king of hell’ or just a normal Lucifer?” I do need to make sure, I mean, that is not a common name. “Yes and that’s not…” “Hey babe, I felt a rip in space, so I came to check it out” I turned around as I heard the voice, oh boy, his face was hella sinful. He had red eyes with a sharp jawline that looked like it could cut even steel and his hair was a mixture of black and white. This, this is just… “Is that him?” I whispered to the moon goddess and she nodded. I always thought that the devil was ugly, had horns, wings and so on, but this, this is way out of my imagination. “Come give daddy a hug” he said with his arms spread open and with a smile that I am sure could bring ladies to their knees. I walked towards him and hugged him, although I felt awkward but it felt warm. “That is okay… I brought you here for a reason Hayley and we don’t have much time left” “Huh? What reason?” “You being the daughter of the Moon Goddess and Lucifer, means you the most powerful hybrid in the world, also means you have all supernatural powers and special abilities” “And that is a good thing, right?” “Yes it is, but you must learn to control and tame them, it’s time to go, my child” “but I just got here” “I know my darling,” she said with a smile as she caressed my cheek, giving me that warm feeling I have always longed for “I will be with you all the way, I promise. Now you must go, I have a surprise for you when you get back, there are people waiting and worried about you” she said with a smile and that just sounded like she was teasing. “Okay uhmm mother” I said awkwardly and I hugged her, which returned and did the same to Lucifer. “See you next time sweets” he said and ruffled my hair, I turned to my newly found mother. “Close your eyes” she said and I did as she directed * * * ASHTON Office had piled up and I have buried myself in them for days now. I was deep in work when Jake mind linked me that rogues were sighted in our territory. I told him to check if they were harmful as usual. We are the largest and strongest pack in the world, and we usually kill most rogues on sight if caught harmful or a threat t our pack. Most tend stay away but according to Jake they were females and suddenly Jack my wolf was interested, he barely gets interested in anything. “Ashton”, he called to report back “they are completely harmless, although one is severely injured…” jack immediately growled on hearing that. “The other one is in perfect health, they are in the pack clinic”, “Why are you so sure that they are harmless?” I asked still suspicious “That is because the one that’s alright is my mate” he said and I could feel his joy from the link “Oh I see, congrats” “What if she is dead?” Jack suddenly whined “I don’t know but let’s keep having hope, even if she is dead, we would have felt it, its alright bud” I too was longed to find my own mate. “Okay, I am coming let me see the rog… I mean visitors” I quickly corrected myself not wanting to upset Jake. We have been best buddies since 12th grade and together, we have supported each other, rising to be the strongest pack in the world. I got to the clinic and met a girl, standing beside Jake, she had brown eyes and light brown hair, almost caramel. She introduced herself as Kacey Jones and her friend who was receiving medical treatment is Hayley Carter. Immediately se mentioned the name, Jack started pacing and became restless, which is so unlike him. “What is the matter Jack?” I asked but got no response, I shrugged it off and went into the clinic. I got to the ward where she was and there I saw her, lying on the bed. My mate, the one person that could ever make me sane, the one person I thought was dead, the one person I thought I would never meet was lying there, looking almost lifeless, eyes closed and not moving, my hands trembled as the thought of losing my mate washed over me. “No, not when I had just found her” I whispered to myself as I held her, I suddenly had this feeling of extreme anger that I wanted to destroy something, I knew that wasn’t my anger but Jacks. I mind linked Jake “Set up the cage” I left to lock myself up before I rip something or someone to shreds. HAYLEY I opened my eyes and I was met with sudden brightness, I looked clearly and realized I was in a hospital as I could hear the beeps coming from the monitor by my left. I sat up, looked around and saw Kacey sleeping in the couch, I removed the IV and stood up, I thought I would be overwhelmed with pain but to my surprise, I feel perfectly fine. “Artella”, I called for my wolf. “Yes, I am here” she answered weakly “Are you okay?” “I am fine, the healing took most of my strength but I will come around” “Thank goodness” I sighed “I thought I had lost you” “Aww, you love me” she said “eewww, that’s disgusting, I am just happy you are alive” “Just admit it, you love me” now she was just getting cheeky “Shut up” embarrassed, I cut her off “Kacey, Kacey” I called out and she jumped up, clearly awake now. “Hey” she called out, tears welling up in her eyes as she ran to hug me “I thought you I lost you” she said as she hugged me tight, I felt guilty for making her worried about me “I missed you too Kacey,” I hugged her back, gently patting her back, hoping to calm her down “I am here now, you don’t have to cry” I gently patted her back until her sobs began to quiet. After moment, I pulled away and looked at her. “How long was I out?”. “2 days” she replied My eyes widened “Two days?” She nodded, wiping the tears from her cheeks “Ashton has been going crazy, he was so furious that he locked himself up in a cage.” The moment she mentioned the name, something jolted within me. Ashton The name echoed through my mind, stirring something I couldn’t grasp, even Artella was intrigued. “Who is that?” I couldn’t help being curious. “Our second chance mate, help him,” Artella replied and I froze, I was so shocked to hear I had a second chance mate, now I see what mother was talking about. “Where is he?” I asked Kacey “He is in the basement” “Take me to him” she nodded and took to the basement to see my mate. The moment I stepped in, my eyes fell on a cage sitting a short distance away. Inside it was a pure black wolf with blue eyes, pacing restlessly from one end to the other. He slammed his body against the bars repeatedly, growling and struggling to break free. Then I noticed the silver, lining the cage. Every time his fur brushed against it, he would recoil in pain. Silver was extremely harmful to werewolves and judging by the way he writhed against the bars it was hurting him badly. I stared at him, my heart tightening. That was my mate. “Help him” I heard Artella say inside my head. “Open the cage” I said aloud. Everyone immediately turned to look at me as though I had lost my mind. “Luna, with all due respect, we cannot open the cage”. A guy spoke cautiously “He will kill us all” Before I could respond, the black wolf suddenly stopped pacing, he lifted his head and looked directly at me. Then he slowly made his way towards the cage door. I felt Artella stir within me, her instinct urging her forward, I could tell she was trying to rush out, desperate to get our mate. “No Artella,” I took a deep breath, “I have to do this alone” for a moment she resisted but eventually, she backed down, retreating quietly. “What is his name?” I asked the guy who had spoken to me earlier. “His name is Jack” he replied. I nodded and slowly moved closer to the cage. The black wolf immediately stepped towards where I stood, his lips curling into a low snarl. “Hello Jack” I spoke softly, “My name is Hayley, I am your mate,” Almost instantly, like he could hear what I was saying, his entire demeanor changed. The tension left his body, and the growl died in his throat. I carefully and cautiously slipped my hand through the bars and gently stroked his head. He relaxed under my touch. I continued stroking his fur, my fingers my fingers moving gently along his head and down his neck. For some reason, touching him felt strangely natural, as though I had done it a thousand times before and this was just our first meeting. I looked at him for a moment. ”Can I speak with Ashton please?” I asked. The wolf slowly backed away from me, then his body began to shift. I watched as his bones began to c***k and rearrange themselves. His black fur disappeared as his body transformed, until the wolf standing before me had completely shifted into a man. Someone quickly threw a pair of shorts toward him and he caught them before putting them on. The cage was opened, he stepped out. The moment his feet touched the ground, he walked straight towards me and pulled me into his big arms. He hugged me tightly as though he had been waiting forever to hold me. Suddenly, A sharp pain ripped through my abdomen, I gasped before collapsing to the floor, clutching my stomach as a scream tore from my throat stomach, “What is happening?” Ashton asked dropping beside me. “Her ex-mate is mating with someone else” Kacey said quietly. “That bastard” I cursed through gritted teeth. Another wave of pain hit me and I screamed again. I could feel my bones cracking one after the other. The pain was unbearable, like my entire body was being torn apart from the inside. “It is time” Artella said weakly “What do you mean Artella?” I asked through the pain. “Feel it” her voice was barely a whisper “Feel the pain of rejection, this is the only way you can overcome this.” I clenched my fists against the floor as another agonizing pain tore through me. I screamed as my body continued to break and rebuild itself. It was time to face the rejection.
