Chapter 9

As Chris went into the bedroom, Kate stayed behind and looked at the guys. "Please let us out." one of the guys croaked, staring at her with desperate eyes - clearly foolishly assuming that that prayers to her would be less likely to fall on deaf ears. She took a look at the bedroom door, then stepped over and closed it. As she returned to the doorway, she leaned down slightly and smiled. "Okay, I'll cut you guys a deal - if any of you are willing to shoot yourselves or someone else in the leg, I'll open the door for all of you. There's a gun taped to the bottom of the TV table." Their eyes all slowly turned to look at the TV table, then back to her. "You can't be.." Michael started, but she looked over at him. "Oh yes, I'm definitely serious. I mean, you can always just wait for Chris to come back." she said with a shrug. The guys exchanged glances, then started talking about who would do it. Kate turned her glance to the side, and noticed the door was still closed. Good. Their bedroom was sound proof, as had been recommended to them when they moved in. She smiled slightly as she thought about how she'd use it later today. Well, it's good enough that it's being put to use right now, too. Their voices rose as they continued bickering, so she went into the kitchen to grab a glass of water and a chair. They only had a small table in the kitchen, perfect for when it was just the two of them - like it mostly was. When she took a glass of water from the sink, she noticed that there was a yellow, chunky mess. Ew. Walking back into the hallway, now with a chair and the glass of water, their bickering had reached new heights, but one of the guys had actually found the gun, and was now holding it against the leg of the sleeping guy. "Wow, that was quick. Also, pretty scummy that you've decided to take advantage of the guy who can't actually consent." she commented as she sat down and crossed her right leg over her left, sipping her water as she followed them with their eyes. Amazing how fast the group went from pleading to be let out, to calling her a f*****g stone cold b***h. Kate quickly looked over at the door to the bedroom, and the guys went quiet. Her face remained calm, but beneath the surface she was amused. Clearly, she was seen by these guys as the lesser evil. "I'm sorry, man." the guy with the gun said quietly, looking up at his passed out comrade before he looked away. Kate's eyes widened. He pulled the trigger. Now, what's important to note about the guns from the Organization is that not just anyone can use them. Proper authorizations have to be granted to use any of their guns, and some of them are coded to only be used by certain people, like, for instance, if you want to have some weaponry to protect yourself, maybe it isn't the best idea that any home intruders would be able to use your own against you. Kate was very well aware of this, because she had been through the authorizations. Obviously, these guys had not, and thus the gun didn't actually fire. Everything was quiet for a second as the guys in the room took in what just happened. Or, well, what didn't happen. The silence was broken by Kate snickering. "Wow, I can't believe that you actually tried to shoot your friend in the leg." she said, while trying to clear her throat to stop herself from laughing. The guys were absolutely set off, sounding like barking dogs for a second as they all yelled the top of their heads off, loud enough for the guy on the couch to finally come back to earth, finding himself on an unfamiliar couch with a gun against his leg. His face quickly went from confused to horrified, as the guy with the gun started apologizing. And that was all Kate could do to stop herself from laughing, erupting in a fit of laughter. The guys went quiet again, and Kate was the only one still making any sound (which quickly turned into a wheezing). Chris cleared his throat, which almost made her fall out of the chair of surprise, spilling a bit of her water as she flinched. He sent a quick glance into the living room, before looking down at her. "So, I actually just came to ask if you meant to lay out a tie, but uh... what's going on here?" Kate shot a quick glance from him, into the living room, before looking back up at him. "Uh, nothing. Do you want to go?" Shocked, the guys looked up at him. "She's f*****g crazy, man. She tried to make Damien shoot Ozzie in the leg!" Michael chimed up. Chris looked down at Kate with a non-plussed expression, but Kate was looking at Michael. "I gave you guys a choice. And you even decided to p***y out." Just for emphasis, she stuck her tongue out at him before getting out of the chair and flicking some imaginary dust off her legs. "Can we go?" Chris took a single glance into the living room, before he took her hand and they walked out into the kitchen, still not saying anything. She quickly put the glass down by the sink as they walked past it, before moving out of the house, into the car. As the doors closed behind them, he finally looked at her again and broke the silence. "Where did that come from?" She only shrugged as a response. "I dunno. Thought it would be fun." She paused as he didn't response. "In my defense, it was. You should've seen their faces." He slowly nodded while firing up the engine. "I'll take your word for it." Kate pouted as she looked at him. "Why are you being such an ass?" This seemed to wake him up a little, and he looked towards her with a surprised look on his face. "Sorry. I'm just, uh... Caught up in thoughts." Kate crossed her arms as she looked at him. "What 'thoughts'? Also, where are we going?" Chris backed out of the driveway as he smiled at her. "Where do you think we're going?" Kate thought about keeping her attitude up, but sighed and dropped her arms again while looking out of the front window. "Hmm... Are we going to Orion?" Chris nodded. Of course she'd want to go there - that's why she'd picked out a suit for him, and a nice dress for her. He broke a big smile and looked at her. "You're completely right, honey."
