New Hire
"Good morning Rayne." Her mother greeted her when she entered the kitchen for breakfast. The 22-year-old smiled in greeting. She shared her mother's Auburn hair, it was tied up high and some strands were free to frame her face. Her blue eyes were from both parents, however.
"Any plans for job hunting today?" Her mother asked. Rayne frowned. She had been looking for weeks now and to say her resolve was splintering would be the understatement of a century.
"At this rate, any will do." Her shoulders slumped down, hearted, and her Mother frowned, moving to hug her daughter.
"You don't need to worry about it too much, sweetie, your Dad and I will take care of things until you're ready. So only apply for jobs you want." She attempted to reassure Rayne though that only further made her feel guilt. She wanted a job owned by Aevix or Zevix, and wished to give back to the Aliens to choose her family to save. But many companies still view them as fragile humans. On her home planet, the Yokai are more often chosen. Though occasionally those from The other 2 Planets would get a job on her planet, so really it was a toss up.
Though all species from Yokai to the demons and Angels and everything in-between were once at home on earth. The ancestors of the Alien race brought them to their galaxy, collecting them with far more innocent intent. Finding them to be fascinating, humans were originally overlooked. Seen as underdeveloped, the original plan was to let them evolve a bit before they would be taken. The decline in health on earth from overpopulation ended up forcing their hands and they were taken as well a mere 500. Her family was among the chosen 50 years prior to her birth. She was the first born in her family in their new home. The Aevix and Zevix both evolved from the same species, though choices to pair up with other races sent both down a path that branched them apart. While both had the same inverted knees and stood at roughly the same height, their skin was both smooth and flawless.
The Aevix was adapted to flying. Males had massive wings dwarfing the females. While females had tail feathers that dwarfed males, they were often tied up with leather straps. The only outlier was the Queen of them, endowed with both wing span and tail length. The Aevix were passive natured, preferring art and knowledge over war. The ruler was always an Aevix. Their eyes, a solid color, usually aligned to their own colored pallet which was in correlation with the sky. Ears framed ears framed with feathers and donning a crest. They spent a lot of time with the inhabitants of Celestia, a Planet named by Angels, and home to races that were commonly seen as good.
Zevix was the opposite, adapted for life in water. They have both gills along their ribcage and lungs, to allow for movement upon land. Their skin is hardened and impenetrable but most weapons, guns included. They don a ceremonial mask at all times. It is a part of their religion, they are only meant for their lifemates and children to see. It is designed after a beast's skull. Tails are thick and webbed at the tip, similar to their fingers and toes. They have dual eyelids like Sirens. They spend more time on Inferno, the planet named by demons where darker beings call home. These species are better suited for fighting and war. They are often seen as Warmongers. Though seeking out war was never at the top of their list.
Rayne wished to work for them and wished to thank them with her actions and loyalty. These drove her to apply to many companies owned or run by the Aliens. To no avail, she was becoming rather hopeless as the days blurred together. Shutting the door to her home, she walked down the trail heading off to continue her job hunt. The musical chime of her phone, however, had her stopping, the number was unknown and she leapt to answer it, her heart in her throat.
"Hello...?" She spoke up after a second.
"Hello, I am trying to reach Rayne Fayrehall?" A male voice replied.
"This is her. How can I help you?" She admitted. Straight up as if he could see her, wanting to be professional.
"Hi Ms. Fayrehall I am calling you in regards to your Application." They replied. Her heart kicked into overdrive at that. She felt equal parts dread and anticipation. It couldn't be a no. They would have just ghosted her, so it had to be an affirmation.
"Oh, thank you for getting back to me." She answered.
"Of course, however, I regret to inform you that the position you have applied for is already taken. I am sorry." He spoke and she felt her heart sink, why bother calling to just reject her?
"Oh, that's alright, I understand thank you for telling me." She answered, attempting to keep her voice steady. she didn’t want to cry on the phone.
"I do wish to offer you another position, though you must first attend an audience with our queen." The male spoke and she fell silent, her ears ringing, she eyed the castle looming in the distance. And was deathly silent for several long seconds, before she realized the man was speaking, "Hello? Ms. Fayrehall?"
"I'm sorry. Are you sure you want me?" She asked, "Any job that puts me so close to her is usually for the Yokai. I am a human." She reminded him.
"The open position is only for a human. So you fit perfectly race wise. But all other aspects? Well, it's a new position, so who is to say if you fail we can always let you go later on." He assured her, she paused, worrying at her lips.
"Alright. When should I stop by?" She asked, her gaze locked on the massively looming castle. It was quite a trip, but would be worth it.
"At your earliest convenience. When you arrive, alert the gate guards of your name and ask them for Takaharu. I'll guide you from there." He was soft spoken and gentle, something she only now really picked up on.
"Okay, Thank you so Much Takaharu. Really!" She was almost jumping up and down with excitement. The other chuckled.
"I wonder how long I'll have your gratitude. I must attend to my other duties. I will see you then. Goodbye."
