Chapter 1: First Descent And Encounter
Orion

They say that death was a big part of the existence of life. But actually, it's just another step towards a greater level of consciousness.
When we die, a part of us goes somewhere we deserve to be in. How do I know this? It's because my father is death itself, while my mother was the giver of pure blessedness when a person dies. However, that story was just relayed to me. I never once saw her from the moment I first opened my eyes.
I'm Orion, the son of death, but I was never given a role to begin with. I was free to roam the world as I liked. Though most of the time, I do help my father send the dead to Charon to be sent to the underworld.
I'm now here in the mortal world, my first time to actually want to fit in on their world. This is because, most of the children of the Gods and Demigods tend to mix themselves with ordinary humans.
And it's my first time doing this. I was pressed by my uncle to do this instead of sleeping for a long time and waking up hundreds of years later.
I'm currently in New Orleans, planning on studying business since it's the only thing I actually find slightly interesting.
It's my first day tomorrow and I'm still wide awake at such a serene and eerie time of the night. The roads were completely abandoned as the chirping of the crickets ringed heavily.
I'm just waiting till the sun hits up so I can go to the university and see how humans interact inside such a 'prison place'. And keep in mind that the term 'prison place' were the wise words of the people I heard from the streets earlier.
[Step. Step.]
"So I tried to gather some information about the new kid but I found nothing. So I guess we have to keep an eye on him just in case he's a spy from those disgusting bloodsuckers."
My ears wiggled a bit from the clear voice that I heard from below. I adjusted myself and peeked to see two muscular men talking to each other on a balcony while smoking cigarettes. I couldn't discern their faces since it was totally dark but I could tell that there was something off about them.
Werewolves? I'm pretty sure that's it, based on the scent they exude. A little stinky, though also quite calming.
"His identity is indeed suspicious. He's in the same class as me so don't worry, I'll make sure to get something out of him tomorrow." A deep and husky voice said and I was left wondering what they were so on guard about.
And I do remember my father saying that a lot of creatures in the mortal realm are having a silent war with one another. The bloodsuckers they meant must be the vampires. Seems right... since these two races hate each other's guts to the core.
I laid my head down on the roof again and watched the bright light emitted by the moon. I can still hear the two talking nonstop and it kind of irked me. Sigh! I got up and jumped down the seven story building and pranced leisurely on the dark streets.
I better clear my mind for later. What should I tell them about myself? If I tell them I'm the god of cuteness I'm sure they would believe me. I mean, not to brag, but I do have an innocent and baby looking face. I don't know why this is but they told me that I got it from my mother.
But I'll never know for sure until I meet her. What else? Oh! I could tell them that I like singing, yeah, that's it! It's normal so they'll surely take it.
Ok. One down, I still need at least two more...
Noah

"Make sure to tail the new kid in town. The vampires have been active lately, we can't let them disrupt the peace of our territory. You know what to do." Dad said on the phone and I replied curtly and ended the call.
"Noah, shall we continue where we left off." Two hands suddenly creeped and caressed my chest as a slutty voice whispered in my ears. I pushed her off of me harshly, and in return, I received a mouthful of curses.
"What the heck Noah!" She shrieked. I unamusedly looked at Jessica and leaned down to get my boxer that was on the floor and wore it.
"Get out. Brett is coming over, we have something important to discuss." I said coldly and she just huffed at me and quickly put on her clothes and stormed out of the room.
We were getting a lot of alarming cases lately. Numerous people have been found dead in the woods and we have no idea which f*****g bloodsucker dared to enter our territory and do this.
And to add to this, suddenly a new kid enrolled in town which makes us extra suspicious. We could have let him off if he has relatives or family here, but we don't have the least bit of information about him.
All we got was that he has an average height and a lean body. We tried looking or trailing him but he was nowhere to be seen. And this only heightened our wariness.
[Knock! Knock!]
Someone knocked on the door so I stood up and walked towards it and turned the knob over.
"Good gracious Noah, the alpha disturbed my sleep in the middle of the night. So surprise to you, cause I'm sleeping here." Brett mumbled while yawning, and I noticed that this douchebag did something stupid before coming here.
"Why do you smell like cocaine?" I questioned him and he just gave me a small laugh and completely ignored me and proceeded to walk on the balcony to get some fresh air.
I took two sticks from my nightstand, followed him, and handed one to him and gave him the lighter.
"So I tried gathering some information about the new kid but I found nothing. I guess we really have to keep an eye on him just in case he's a spy from those disgusting bloodsuckers." He said with an uninterested voice and I nodded at him in understanding.
"True, his identity is indeed suspicious. He's in the same class as me so don't worry, I'll make sure to get something out of him tomorrow." I said to him,
"By the way, your sister told me that she saw his face when he enrolled." He uttered, and I turned to him with scrunched brows.
"Stop that look, we just happened to bump into each other while I was on my way to the pack house. The only thing your sister told me was that he was extremely good looking, like an angel that fell from the heavens that it felt like it was a sin to stare at his face.
Those gentle words were her own. You should get your sister checked for mental disorder. How can she say that when she sees this face of mine every single day." He complained about the last part a little too dramatically. I rolled my eyes at him and walked to my room to sleep.
"Close the doors when you're done." I instructed him and shut the door to my room before he could reply anything.
-
"Students! You can now proceed to your assigned rooms. I hope all of you the best on your first day. Good luck." The headmistress spoke on the platform in the middle of the field.
I was assigned in Room-232, so I proceeded to walk and was mentally praying that Jessica wouldn't bother me for the rest of the day. It's not that I don't love my mate, but she's always acting bitchy with people I make contact with. And that's not a good trait, especially for the future Luna of our pack.
My brother was supposed to be the next alpha, but he ran away, so me being stuck in this position that I don't even want really sucks.
I felt eyes staring at me as I walked past the halls and I could only smirk by how easy it is for these humans to be bold in public.
Thankfully, I didn't run into Jessica. I entered the room quietly and examined the place. I tried sniffing the air if there's any smell of vampires around but there was none.
I sat at the furthest back seat to avoid getting any attention, but as expected, luck was never on my side.
"Noah!!!" Brett barged into the room shouting my name. Great! Now everybody was looking at me, I even saw Erika in my peripheral vision looking slyly at me. She was my f**k buddy when I was still unmated and a member of our pack.
And ever since we broke up, she's become a total w***e. I heard that she seduced almost half the men in our pack. She used to be a fine lady, but I guess our relationship took a toll on her. I talked her out of it several times but she wouldn't listen to me.
So she's not my problem anymore. Since I was very clear to her about our relationship from the very beginning. Brett flirted with the girls as he walked to where I was and I can't help giving him a side smirk.
"So, did you see the new guy already?" He asked as he sat beside me.
"Didn't see him. Probably hasn't arrived yet." I answered as I travelled my eyes to the outside view from the window. A lot of people were chattering and being a typical college student. There's the nerds, the slutty group, and the musicals. All doing the same routine over and over.
"Don't you have classes?" I asked Brett and swung my head to him. He leaned his body backward, and was stretching his arms behind his head in a lazy manner and closed his eyes as he answered me.
"I wanna see this new kid's face which your sister speaks so highly of." He said sarcastically. I was silent the whole time after our conversation, and patiently waited for the new kid to arrive.
"Sorry I was a bit late, had something up. I'll be your accounting professor, I know that some of you---" The teacher continued talking but I was nowhere near interested in what she was mumbling about.
Where the hell is the new guy?!
"So that's all about me. I know that all of you are acquainted with one another so I won't stress you all with the introduce tradition. However, as you all know, we have a new student here at Weyford College." My ears perked up when I heard what the prof said and I instantly raised my head to look at where she was looking.
"Dear, you can come inside now." She said and I heard slow footsteps from outside. A figure walked in and everyone immediately started murmuring to each other.
"Damn! He's gorgeous. The f**k!" Brett exclaimed lowly, but I was too distracted by the boy who entered the room to mind what he said.
My heart skipped a beat the moment I laid my eyes on him. He was so enthralling, he stepped on the platform and introduced himself, tucking in gently his curly chestnut hair on the sides of his ears.
His hazel eyes looked left and right while smiling brightly in front us. He was beyond beautiful. Wait. What the hell am I feeling? I never felt like this before, I once have never gotten this kind of attraction with my mate. How is this possible?
No! This is all just in my head, I still have to see if he is a threat or not. I can't be swayed by his appearance.
"Hello, my name is Orion... Orion Sullivan. I came from a very far place." He shortly said. His voice was extremely pleasant to the ears, it was tranquil, like a placid water. Not too soft but also not deep, it's just... right.
