Delicacies
Sierra Skyla sat on a less crowded bus, with sunlight streaming through the window-just warm enough but not too hot, casting a glow on the freshly washed pavement. It felt like the perfect moment to do something she loved or to meet someone special. And that’s exactly what she was doing, feeling unbelievably happy. However, the person Sierra Skyla was about to meet wasn’t her boyfriend or any colleague or senior; it was the hottest film star of the day, Vincenza Esposito, who had become a legend before hitting thirty. Seriously! Meeting her idol was way more thrilling than meeting a boyfriend. Besides, Vincenza Esposito was someone she had kept secret in her heart for years, someone she hadn’t even dared to admit she liked. Sierra wore a white dress that fell just above her knees, her soft, slightly lighter hair pinned up on one side with a clip. Her pale, slender legs were modestly pressed together, and her canvas shoes were paired with short white socks to keep her feet warm. Even a casual glance revealed her excited face was flushed, her whole body trembling slightly. She should be a very cute girl, but her extreme thinness made her appear somewhat unusual. Though slimness is often admired, Sierra’s appearance seemed almost frail. Her delicate neck supported a tiny face, her skin was unusually pale, and under the sunlight, her brown hair looked almost translucent. "She's pretty, but a bit too skinny, don’t you think? She’d look better with a bit more weight." Someone in the back of the bus murmured. Sierra glanced at her reflection in the window and saw her emaciated appearance. It seemed normal, considering anyone who had been bedridden for a year would lose all their muscle. She pulled out a note from her bag, smoothing it out to reveal an address: 12 Beverly Street. Vincenza Esposito: 138×××××. This was Vincenza's phone number! Even though she had memorized it, Sierra still felt breathless with excitement. She took a deep breath, clenching the note in her palm, unable to look at it for more than a moment. She was about to meet him! Except she was just applying for a nanny position. "It seems a bit disheartening for a well-educated young woman to be a nanny." Sierra muttered, her head down. But she reconsidered in less than a second, overwhelmed by joy. Just like Jasmine said:"Cooking for someone is your true calling. After all, while others were part-time English tutors in college, you were a part-time chef. And it's for your idol! What's the point of maintaining your pride? When can you be with your idol?" "Moreover, Vincenza Esposito! You protected his letters from when he was a teenager better than state secrets, and you’d take them out to copy whenever you were happy!” "And Vincenza's staff get amazing benefits. The company pays well, and he’s generous. Even a small glimpse from him could keep you fed for half a year. If you take good care of his appetite, you might not be far from wealth! His chauffeur drives a Mercedes!" Cooking was the only thing that made Sierra feel happy while also bringing joy to others. After being hospitalized for a year, penniless and having even her phone stolen, with insurance payments used for hospital bills, and her house reclaimed by the homeowner, Jasmine’s kind offer of a job with room and board left her with no other options. Jasmine Luna was right-maintaining pride was useless; being Vincenza's nanny was both profitable and desirable. In truth, she couldn’t refuse. It was someone she had loved deeply for years, even though she knew there was no hope. How could anyone resist such temptation? It was a good opportunity. Working next to the film star was something many people envied. She would treat it as a simple job and give it her best. Sierra’s slender hands unconsciously touched her stomach as she took a deep breath. No need to be nervous; Vincenza wouldn’t know she nearly had his child, nor would he remember her. Though she looked as thin as in the photo now, she had genuinely been pregnant, her belly as big as a watermelon. Unfortunately, she lost the baby close to the due date due to a car accident and fell into a coma for a year. That was all in the past… It’s time to start over now. After all, few people get the chance to be Vincenza’s nanny! Sierra clapped her hands joyfully, her excitement almost bubbling over. The bus stopped at the station with a hiss, and Sierra lightly jumped off, heading towards the address on the note. She almost took a photo in front of the gate on Beverly Avenue but was lucky not to have a phone with her. Eventually, she found Vincenza's house, the standalone villa marked "12." Sierra extended her finger and nervously rang the doorbell. Don’t be too nervous, don’t be too awkward, don’t be too excited… The intercom soon crackled to life: “Who is it?” Sierra held her breath. Even though it was just one word, she could tell it was Vincent's voice. "Hello? Can’t hear me? Speak." The man’s attractive voice was deliberately lowered, as if trying not to wake anyone. Stay calm! "Hello, I’m Sierra Skyla, here for the nanny interview today." Her voice was tight as she started speaking, and she coughed nervously. Then she heard the ornate iron gate click open a little. Let this moment be remembered, let time mark this occasion! The gate to Vincenza Esposito’s home was opened for her. Sierra, amazed, opened the door and walked into the yard, her face flushed with excitement. After passing through the yard, the villa’s main door was also open. She bowed tightly like a small Japanese person and said, “Excuse me!” However, upon entering, she found the house empty. Sierra felt a bit lost. Seeing a pair of shoes by the door, she changed into a pair of slippers from the shoe rack. Then, a sound came from upstairs, and a handsome man appeared at the top of the stairs. He wore a set of soft, loose loungewear. His pants draped over long legs, his top accentuated strong shoulders, and his waist was relaxed, making for an incredibly sexy silhouette. His face was a unique kind of handsome, with sharp, detailed features and a rugged masculine edge. He was a typical child star whose youthful innocence had disappeared over the years. Now, he had a strikingly sharp face and a captivating aura that was almost unbearable to look at. It was Vincenza Esposito. At that moment, Sierra’s blood pressure nearly skyrocketed, and her whole body went from trembling to calm. Vinenza's refined face turned towards Sierra, and he casually asked, “Can you cook?” "Yes!" "Then get started. There are ingredients in the kitchen. Prepare the meal and call me when it’s ready." Her success in the interview hinged on this meal. Once in the familiar kitchen, Sierra calmed down. Vincent's house was large and luxurious, and although the kitchen lacked the homely feel of a regular kitchen, it was very spacious and fully equipped-exactly Sierra’s dream kitchen. Opening the refrigerator, she saw mostly canned drinks and only a few ingredients: two tomatoes, a bunch of green onions, a carton of eggs, and a bag of dried mushrooms. Looking down, Sierra spotted a basket of crabs, tightly bound, their claws moving. She started to get an idea of what to prepare. Rolling up her sleeves, Sierra got to work. Within an hour, she emerged from the kitchen with a tray. Vincenza was already waiting at the table. Sierra gave a slight bow, “Mr. Esposito, it’s an honor to cook for you. I’ve admired you for a long time.” She was truly sincere and put a lot of effort into her words. Unfortunately, Vincenza had heard this too many times. His handsome face briefly showed a smile for fans before returning to its usual cool demeanor. “Thank you.” He then asked, “What did you make?” Sierra stepped aside, “I wasn’t able to prepare much today. There’s only a bowl of noodles. Please let me know if it suits your taste.” A delicious aroma wafted through, subtle but captivating. Vincenza was slightly surprised. He had low expectations, but this was beyond what he had anticipated. The smell was fresh and delightful, not overly rich or bland, and quite different from the usual hotel fare. The flavor had layers, combining the savory taste of crab roe with the aroma of mushrooms and the slight tang of tomatoes. The tray held a bowl of noodles and a cup of tea. The noodles were handmade, uneven but chewy, and the colors and aroma stimulated his long-dormant taste buds.
