FIVE YEARS LATER. APRIL'S POV My hand reached out for the coffee mug on my table and I grabbed it without a second thought. After gulping down the content, I groaned in satisfaction and continued with my daily routine of sorting out countless emails and letters. My office was large and carefully designed to suit my taste. It gave me this feeling of settlement with its high stretched walls and imposing personal space. The sound of the door opening interrupted my work and I looked up to find Mrs Williams at the entrance. She was dressed smartly in a floral blue dress that fitted perfectly on her. At age sixty, she still exuded a youthful charisma and elegance that was difficult to miss. After I left Germany for Texas, I drowned in self-pity for a while before gathering the courage to push on. Thanks to Betty's recommendation, Mrs Williams accepted me with open arms. Her support and countless encouragements was the reasons I was able to graduate from working under her to building my fashion firm from scratch within the limited space of four years. Truth be told, I was indebted to her kindness. I saw her as a mother I never had. Today, my fashion brand was worth over a billion dollars making me the top fashion figure in the country. The headlines of my success were everywhere, on bulletins, in newspapers, and magazines. I had become a trending and popular topic on the internet. I smiled gleefully. My sacrifices were worth it. “Good morning to you too,” Mrs Williams said with a faint smile, navigating her way through my office. “Oh, Good morning Mrs Williams. If you had told me you were coming, I would have prepared your favorite tea,” “As if,” She snorted. “You're always too busy with work to think about anything else,” I smiled in response because she was so right. Over the years, work had become my solace, a constant reminder of why I had to succeed at all costs. It helped me forget,” “How are my boys,” she continued. “Don't get me started on those two,” I groaned. “They give me so much headache that sometimes I don't know what to do with them. Let's not even talk about their unbreakable bond and the mischievous things they do together,” Mrs Williams chuckled. “kids would always be kids. Allow them to live their age,” “Exactly. My kids are the smartest. So handsome and I can't wait to see them grow into amazing young men that would learn to treat their women right and not as objects,” I saw her eyes change in such a way that suggested I was taking the conversation too personally. Then she smiled in an understanding manner before proceeding to say. “I must congratulate you on the success of your business. Look at you all cute and gorgeous, different from the April of four years ago,” A flush of pride spread through my cheeks at her words and I smiled widely. “How can I forget your kindness, Mrs Williams? Seriously, none of this would have been possible without you. I don't know how can ever repay you,” “Oh, please who said a thing about repayment?” She chuckled. There was silence after she finished speaking until she broke it. “How about the shares? Were you able to talk to Adrian about it?” I contemplated my response until my phone made a notification beep. I picked it up and the text I read made me to scream out in excitement. “Yes! He did it!” “Did what?” A wicked smile spread across my face. “Mr Adrian has been able to successfully acquire 60% of the Sinclair's business shares. He wants us to talk about the rest of the details over dinner tonight,” My excitement was palpable as my pounding heart. I met Mr Adrian in a press conference and since then we've been friends. He was one of the sweet people that supported and pushed my dreams. When I heard of the Sinclair's Group financial difficulty and the sale of their company shares, I had solicited Mr Adrian's help to purchase a greater percentage of the shares. At last, the deal was done and this was an opportunity to get my revenge on Lucien and Lena for their betrayal. Smiling warmly, I typed a quick reply. “Thank you so much Adrian. I'll see you over dinner,” “You now have a chance to settle the scores with those brats,” Mrs Williams said and I shook my head in affirmation. “They better brace themselves because they'll be seating on hot coal soon,” I don't know why, but Mrs Williams was invested in my revenge plans just as I was. It warmed my heart to know that someone was genuinely concerned about me. “When will you be leaving? How about the boys? You could leave them with me as it is not healthy to expose them to their past,” She added. I shook my head. “While I appreciate your gesture Mrs Williams, I cannot leave my boys. I have to take them with me,” When I saw her sadness, I reached out to squeeze her hand. “Don't worry, I'll be fine,” I took in a deep relaxing breath filed with determination. “I'll be leaving for Germany in three days,” Pressing the call button, I summoned my secretary and when she appeared, I gave her the instructions to cancel my schedules for the rest of the day. That evening, I made my day towards the car that was waiting to take me to my dinner appointment with Adrian. The dinner was necessary as I needed to sign a few documents and get myself acquainted with a lot of important details. “Now, for starters, Lucien and Lena would have have to pay for their actions,” I whispered under my breath, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips.
