“We’ll be home as soon as we can,” Kinley said as she pulled her boots on. “Just stay inside and keep the doors locked.”
I sat at the kitchen table, trying to focus on her words. It was mid-morning and I was already exhausted. Ever since Griff’s phone call, I hadn’t been able to sleep. My inability to reach Lareina, and Kat’s refusal to speak to Rochelle or Kinley only added to my pile of distractions.
“Charlie?” Kinley waved her hand in front of me. “Are you with me?”
Nodding, I rubbed a hand over my face. “Lock the doors and stay inside.”
She studied me with her hands on her hips as the back door slammed and Alexander opened the door to the kitchen.
“Hey guys.” He looked from Kinley to me. “Is everything okay?”
