The Mission

  After the presentation, it turned out that among all the recruits Kelly was the only one taken into the Assassin’s team. Two failed the presentation and ended up in the infirmary due to silver poisoning, while the rest were divided into the Informants and Mercenaries.

  Zack couldn’t be prouder for his mate. So after Kelly was checked by Creon for medical purposes, Zack brought take outs and the two of them had dinner in his office.

“You did really great during the presentation.”Zack said.

“You’ve seen it?”Kelly asked.

“I am watching with the council, and I am very impressed with how quick you resolved the silver issue. The others had a hard time with that, which led two into the infirmary.”Zack said.

“I have a very good teacher.”Kelly said.

“Calie is brilliant in her own way. She’s like Zab but with own identity.”He said.

    Then Kelly sighed and looked down on her plate.

“I didn’t actually think that I’d be able to join such group.”Kelly said.

“You have the talent, the skills, and Calie saw it in you.”Zack paused.

“And I couldn’t be prouder to have you as my mate, though I honestly want you safe all the time. But this is who you are and I cannot keep you from being what you really are.”Zack said.

  Kelly looked at him. She cannot help but compare Zack and Jeff. Jeff wanted her to be normal like him, while Zack wanted her to herself, and it made her feel free. Looks like the moon Goddess really did gave her a gift.

“By the way, we are having a mission, it will be your first ever mission.”Zack said.

“What kind of mission?”Kelly asked.

“Zab will brief us the day after tomorrow.”

    A day later, the assassins group was called in for their mission briefing. Kelly came in early for it is her first mission briefing. When the other members of the group arrived, they are surprised to see Kelly and they looked at her from head to toe.

“Are you a new member?”Karen asked.

“Y-Yes.”Kelly answered.

“You’re meek and young. I remember I was your age or younger when I get into this group.”Karen said.

  Celeste and Cruz began circling Kelly. The two vampire enforcers hissed at Kelly.

“So they placed you with us.”Celeste hissed.

“How many recruits were there that she was the only one added to our group?”Cruz asked.

  Kelly cleared her throat and stood erect.

“There were six recruits. Two failed and in the infirmary. Two were placed with the informants and one with the mercs.”Kelly explained.

“And you think you are worthy enough to be placed with us?”Celeste asked arching her perfectly shaped eyebrow at Kelly.

  Kelly looked at her straight in the eye.

“Are you questioning the council’s decision?”Kelly asked back.

  Then Celeste and Cruz smirked.

“I like her spunk, badass.”Celeste said, and then she held her hand towards Kelly.

“Celeste Vancroft.”

  Kelly accepted her hand and shook it.

“Kelly Bourn.”

“Karen Stacey.”

“Samael Cruz, just Cruz. And welcome to the group.”Cruz said, winking at Kelly.

“Keep your winking to yourself Cruz if you want to keep your eye.”

  They turned around and saw Zack, Calie and Zab entered the office. Zack stood between Kelly and Cruz while Zab went behind her desk.

“Settle down kids.”Zab said, and the others went to sit on the couch.

  Zack sat beside Kelly making sure Cruz is away from his mate.

“Okay, first of all I want to welcome and congratulate Kelly for making through the presentation, impressing the council with her speed, agility and fighting skills. Not to mention how quick she was able to remove silver from her system, giving her the highest grade that earned her a spot with the assassins group.”Zab said.

  Karen and the two vampires gaped at Kelly.

“How fast did she remove the silver?”Karen asked.

“A few seconds.”Zab answered.

  Karen was baffled with what she heard. Her record was a good minute during her presentation.

“Wow.”

“Also congratulations to our vice commander for finally finding his mate Kelly.”Zab said.

  Then Karen, Celeste and Cruz turned to Zack.

“What?!”

“She’s my mate so keep your winks to yourself Cruz.”Zack hissed and Cruz raised his arms to surrender.

“Okay, for the mission.”Zab started and then she turned the projector.

  A picture of what looked like a Chinese guy appeared in the screen.

“That is Robert Lee Guan, a rogue in Wuhan, China that killed several young pups and human children. He’s a serial killer that likes to kill children and cut off their heads, and sometimes maul them. His current number of victims is 56, which include an alpha’s youngest pup.”Zab said.

“The council want his head in a jar. This mission is classified as urgent so you’ll leave in an hour using a portal that Alex will open for you.”Zab told them.

  After their briefing, they all got ready for their mission. They put on their black commando suits, and strapped in their weapons. Kelly was really nervous as she put on her boots. This is her first official mission, and she needs to work well with her team mates to be successful.

“Nervous?”Calie asked Kelly.

“Yeah.”

“That’s normal. You’ll get used to it.”Calie said, and then she handed Kelly her mask.

  Kelly took it and wears it, before putting on the hood of her coat. Once done getting ready, all six of them meet Alex in a vacant room.

“I’ll be opening the portal here that leads exactly where the target is. Now once you are done, Calie will send me a message and coordinates and that’s the only time I’ll open the portal for you.”Alex explained.

  Everyone nodded, and then Alex walked towards the stone wall and tapped on it. And then a portal appeared and Alex turned towards the group.

“Goodluck.”He said smiling.

  Zack went in the portal first followed by the others, while Calie went in last. At the other side of the portal, they came out near a warehouse overlooking the Yangtze River.

“Now where is that bastard?”Cruz hissed.

    Kelly sniffed the air, and she immediately got a whiff of dried blood. And the scent was coming from inside the warehouse.

“I smell dried blood coming from inside the warehouse.”Kelly said.

  Everyone looked at her. Calie sniffed and what Kelly said was confirmed.

“Celeste, Karen go behind the warehouse. Guard every possible exit point.”Calie said.

  The two girls nodded and ran stealthily towards the back of the warehouse.

“Cruz you go up to the roof with your sniper rifle. Stand by, shoot if our target decided to play nasty.”Calie said.

“Copy boss. I love my job.”Cruz said smirking, and then he made a huge leap towards roof.

“Zack sneak in the other door in the side.”

  Zack nodded and jogged towards the side of the building. Then Calie turned towards Kelly.

“You will go in. Find him; distract him while I sneak on him. Engage and kill if necessary.”Calie said, and Kelly nodded.

  Kelly ran towards the entrance of the warehouse and quietly went in. The whole warehouse was dark but Kelly’s other senses were perfectly working for her to navigate the place.

  She can hear small movements, but she can hear heavy breathing and the stench of blood became stronger. This time it’s not just dried blood but fresh one.

  Then she heard a low growl coming from her right. From behind the stack of crates was a pair of glowing wolf eyes. Kelly braced herself as the wolf attacked her. When it was near enough she dodged its attack and kicked its stomach sending it crashing on the stacks of crates.

  When light flooded in the whole warehouse, Kelly saw the wolf shifts into human. It was the man from the briefing, the rogue that killed children.

  The man sneered at the masked intruder and began snarling in Mandarin. The man looked deranged and he was covered in dried blood, sweat and grime. He also smells like death and it made Kelly wanted to puke.

  She quickly made a scan of the place, and she internally gasped when she saw a mauled body of a child. When she heard a chuckle, she glared at the man. He was speaking in Mandarin, something Kelly didn’t understand.

  But when the man growled at her and it shifted into his wolf, Kelly touched the tattoo on her wrist and her sword appeared in her hand. She braced herself as the wolf attacked her.

  She dodged the attack and slipped under the wolf kicking its stomach. Then she swiftly ran towards where the wolf was about to crash, sending a roundhouse kick towards its muzzle. When it crashes into the wall, it still tried to stand but Kelly quickly slam her elbow into its spine.

  The sickening crack made the wolf whimper, and then Kelly swiftly and quickly stabbed the wolf multiple times. And when the light of life left his eyes, and fell on the ground in the pool blood, Calie and the others approached her.

“Very good Kelly. Your first kill.”Calie said, and Kelly looked at her.

“You should’ve just told me to kill it and saved yourself all the commands.”Kelly said.

  Calie shrugged, and the other chuckled.

“Man this one stinks. I’m not bringing that one home.”Cruz whined, covering his nose.

“Then just burn it.”Calie said.

“There’s a mauled body over there.”Kelly said pointing towards the body.

  Zack walked towards the body and then he inspects it.

“Poor kid.”Zack said, and then he pulled a vial of some liquid and poured it on the body. Then it suddenly caught in fire.

  Karen pulled out the same vial and poured its contents on the dead rogue’s body. There was a slight sizzle before it caught on fire. The group took a step back as they watch the bodies’ burn.

  The two vampires did a final sweep on the building before Calie contacted Alex through the mindlink.

“Let’s go.” Calie said, and then a portal appeared.

  They went inside to go home as they were done with their mission.
