First day out of seven days turned out disaster because of what happened. My heart sunk at the thought and I couldn’t help but blamed that motherf ucker who ruined our mood. We didn’t even able to bring our things with us, Simeon just called someone to do the work for us before we fled.
I sighed heavily.
Honestly, I don’t know what to feel. But I am feeling anguish, and Simeon, too, basing on his state.
He was cussing under his breath as he drives, even his jaw was tightly clenched and hands gripping the steering wheel so tight. I don’t know how to comfort him as even I, was angry.
“Simeon...” I took his hand. “We can’t do anything about it anymore. I’m safe, love. Please, let’s not totally ruin this day.”
It’s still almost lunch. We still have a lot of time before this day ends and I don’t want to spend it being angry.
“Lia...” He took a deep breath. “I was serious when I told you to shout my name if something like what happened earlier occurs, baby. I was not joking... It was a simple request, right?”
I bit my lower lip. “Yes...”
“Then, why didn’t you call me?” he questioned again.
“I was afraid, Simeon. I didn’t know what to think at that moment. Like my mind totally shut down because of fear I forgot to ask for help.”
It was true. When you’re in the situation, you’d just forgot to think straight.
It took him a lot of deep sighs before I felt him intertwined our fingers.
“Alright, I understand. But next time, please do.”
I nodded. “Okay.”
“Let’s forget about it, baby. The lake was clean and safe. We can just swim there with all we care. No one’s gonna disturb us there.”
That’s what we did. I tried to shoe my thoughts away and just enjoyed the calmness of the freshwater. I was glad that Simeon was smiling again as we both hugs in the middle of the lake.
“I wanna tell you something,” he said after we kisses senselessly.
“What is it?” I nibbled his lower lip.
I can’t get enough of his kisses. It was so addicting.
“But I’m afraid that you’ll run away from me after discovering our nature of work, then tells me that I’m going crazy again for thinking that vampires do exist.”
My forehead knotted. “Baby, you are at it again. They don’t exist. They’re just made out of our imagination.”
“But what if they happen to be true?”
“If they are, what does it have to do with you?” I curiously asked. “You have been trying to open that topic even before, Simeon. And still, I don’t know what to think or to react whenever you talked about vampires. Should I laugh? Be annoyed as you kept on insisting that such creature exist, or just ride with you, so you can stop and let that idea go?”
I sighed deeply. He was being random again. If he feels like it, he would open the topic if he got the chance to and honestly, I got tired hearing it all over and over again.
“Baby...” he called wearily. “I can show you something to prove that they exist.”
“And what does it have to do with you, Simeon?” I asked again. “If they exist, then what? What’s the connection of it to you and to your family’s nature of work?”
I was being impatient. I tried to withdraw myself away from him but from my waist, his arms wrapped around me, refraining me from leaving.
“I can show you something,” he insisted. “Vampire was what killed my sister’s friend, Lia. A vampire’s bite... Out of his thirst, an innocent kid was killed.”
The emotions on my face fades away. I stared at him intently, measuring if he was being serious now or simply because he still can’t move on from the movie we had watched months ago.
But if it was the latter... I’d probably think that he was suffering from something, mentally. However, I don’t want to think of him that way.
Yet, how should I think? I don’t know anymore. I can’t understand him... I didn’t notice anything unusual to him that would make me assumed that he’s mentally suffering and clearly, I don’t even have the right to tell that as I’m not a professional.
“I don’t know, Simeon,” I expressed. “Everything is normal around me, love. No signs of vampirism, and now... You are weird, Simeon. Everyone is normal.”
He closes his eyes shortly and let out a deep sighed. He was the one whose stressing me out but it seems like he, too, was stressed because I can’t bring myself to believe in him.
“Listen...” He cupped my cheeks. “We can travel back to our house tomorrow, so you can see what we’re up to. Every Friday night, we went to hunt vampires, Lia. And these days, I was busy guiding Emory teaching her how to aim a target using an archer.”
I think I would sink down the lake anytime now. My mind was bewildered, I was too confused... I can’t even catch up with my thoughts anymore. It was too crowded with unclear ideas, and I felt like I’m going to explode because of turmoil.
“I know, baby. I made a promised that this week will be full of happiness, away from everything but I’m here, giving you something to think about.”
My head drops on his shoulder. “I am so confused, Simeon.”
“I know... And obviously, I picked up the wrong time but also, I want to use this opportunity to tell you the truth, Lia. I don’t know when we’re going to see each other again after his, and I wanted to tell you everything as early as possible.”
“You were being random, Simeon...” I uttered. “You did really pick up the wrong time. Telling me these things that doesn’t really make sense to me knowing that everything surrounds me were normal, and I never heard of it. If it’s true, the councils must have reported it already to inform the public, right? But there’s no even a single vampire news in the national television.”
If he was telling the truth, then what are the councils were doing? Keeping the vampire’s existence from us? We have the rights to know it. What if they just suddenly...
I mentally shook my head. I’m going crazy. Why am I thinking of that if there’s no shred of evidence given to me? I need a proof that they exist. A proof to prove his allegations.
I trust Simeon, yes. But this one was a different case and was really out of this world. A serious matter that needs scientific study.
Like how on Earth? If they’re real, how? How long they have been lurking around the world? Were they ancient vampires of what?
“Because they were not doing anything to harm us, Lia. They will probably exposed its existence to the public once vampires victimized a human. That’s how it works, Lia...”
“But...” How about that person who killed his sister’s friend?
He killed an innocent kid. That was enough reason to expose their existence.
Sighing, I looked at him intently. I’m not convinced, yes. There’s a low chance, or even zero possibility that vampires exist. But I will see.
There’s nothing to lose.
“Alright, Simeon. If you want me to believe it, then prove me something, baby. Prove that vampires exist.”
“I can... Now...” he whispered as he nuzzle of my neck. “I can prove you that now, baby...”
