Chapter 1- The Inheritance
Elara stood at the edge of the dense forest, her heart pounding as she stared at the old house that loomed before her. The wind rustled through the trees, whispering secrets she couldn't quite grasp. She had inherited this house from her grandmother, a woman she barely remembered but who had always seemed shrouded in mystery.
The townspeople had spoken in hushed tones about the forest and the creatures that were said to dwell within it. Elara had always dismissed such tales as mere folklore, stories told to scare children into staying close to home. But now, standing at the threshold of her grandmother’s domain, she wasn’t so sure.
The house was a large, two-story structure, its wooden frame aged but sturdy. Ivy climbed its walls, and the windows, though dusty, seemed to hold a warmth that beckoned her inside. As she walked up the creaking steps and pushed open the heavy front door, a sense of familiarity washed over her, as if she had been here before in some distant dream.
Inside, the house was filled with the scent of aged wood and lavender. Her grandmother’s touch was evident in every corner – from the handwoven rugs to the shelves lined with ancient books and trinkets. Elara wandered through the rooms, feeling a connection she couldn’t explain.
That night, she dreamt of wolves. Three majestic creatures with eyes that bore into her soul. They circled her, a silent communication passing between them. She felt an inexplicable pull towards them, a bond that seemed to transcend time and space.
When she awoke, the morning sun was streaming through the window, casting a golden glow across the room. She shook off the remnants of the dream and decided to explore the town. Maybe someone could tell her more about her grandmother and the peculiar house she had left behind.
