Half Blood

It was 2:13am in the morning when April's phone rang. It was a call from a total stranger. Their local hospital was calling to tell her that her mom had been involved in a fatal car accident and she was in a coma. April could not believe what she heard. Her mom ,Clara, was the strongest person she had ever known in her life. April hung up before the caller could even finish speaking and went to the hospital. Her mom was in a very terrible state, she had never seen her mom like this. Clara had gone through a lot. Having a child at fourteen was not something any normal person would survive. Having that child for a vampire was even worse, considering the stigma one would get from not only society around but from family members. Clara never stopped talking about the love of her life, Spade. He was the most handsome guy she had ever seen in her entire life. Spade treated Clara like a princess, but Spade had to leave her forever to protect her. If the vampires found out that Clara had had a baby for one of them they would kill Clara and take her baby away from her. Clara obviously could not tell her daughter that she was a vampire so April always thought her father was dead. April was by her mother's bed when a man came inside the ward, April had never seen that man in her life. "Who are you looking for please?" April asked, as the polite girl she was raised to be. "She looks just like her mother." the man said. "Sorry, please do you know my mom?" April said. "very much, I'm Spade" he said. April was speechless for the next thirty seconds until Spade brought her back into the real world, as he said, "I had to rush back here as soon as I heard. I know you have lots of questions but that will be later. I want you to hold your moms left hand." "Why would I obey a total stranger claiming to be my father?" April said. You could see fear, but some trust in her for the man claiming to be Spade. However, she buried it deep down. "Hold your moms hands if you want to save her life. These humans know nothing about healing." Spade said. April decided to comply and held her mom's hand. Spade performed some magic on her and she coughed. "April." Clara said as she tried to get up from her bed. Clara did not have a clear sight of her surrounding so she did not notice Spade in the room. April quickly stopped her from getting up from her bed. "Mom!" April said, as she gave her mom a big hug. "What are you?" April said to Spade, who turned into a bat and flew out of the window. April then said to her mom, "Mom, did you see what just happened?" April always heard stories of vampires but she never really paid any attention to those stories. Of course, April pinched herself so much that you could see her skin turning red. She could not believe what she just saw even after pinching herself. Her mom realized that her daughter had just experienced something strange. "What did you just see, April?" her mom asked. "Nothing, mom." April answered, she had to lie to avoid worsening her mom's health. April turned sixteen a few days before that experience and she started seeing some weird signs, like having dreams that actually came true. Some of her hair started turning white, and her pupils started turning red at night. She also noticed some other signs. You would already guess that April dreamt about her mom's accident but she chose not to believe it. April's best friend, Kira was obsessed with vampires, so she would always hear her talk about some of these signs but she never gave them any serious thought. Weeks after her mom's accident, April kept thinking about what happened the other day. Lots of questions kept coming to her mind like, why did her mom keep such a secret from her?, but she didn't want to ask her mom because she just recovered from a coma. She also kept asking herself if she was really a vampire or if she was running mad. One month after the incident, April was taking a night walk because she could not sleep. Suddenly, she felt a presence around her and it was very strong. she was about to leave when she heard a voice saying, "I know you have lots of question and I can answer them. Just follow me." he said, as he came out of the shadows. To April's shock, it was her father, Spade. "It is you again. I really need answers, I can't wrap my head around what happened the other day. Please why is my hair white?, why are my pupils red?, whyyyyy?" April asked. "I will give you the answers to your questions only if you promise not to tell your mom about what I am about to show you tonight" Spade said. "I swear on my dead father's life, I won't" April swore. "I am your father." Spade said. "Nah, i still don't believe this." April said in disbelief. "She's just as stubborn as her mother." Spade said as he laughed. "Just come with me." he said. "To where?". April asked. "Close your eyes my love, think of what makes you angry the most and watch the magic happen." he said as he took her hand. This was the freakiest s**t, but as April opened her eyes she was a bat. "Wait! wait!, the f**k?" she said, as they both laughed. She told her dad to pinch her, but they both realized that they did not have arms. "Please I have to be home before 3 am to avoid my mom's wrath, you know how she can be sometimes." she said. "I remember every single bit of her, you can start asking me your questions as I take you to the best place you would ever see in your f*****g life." he said to her.
