chapter 1
“Move! The rogue is about to breach the line!" our pack's Beta, Felix, poked his head over the canyon, his voice hoarse with urgency.“The path is going to be completely blocked! if we don't leave now, we're all going to die here!Alpha Marcus, what on earth are you waiting for?”
A bloody wind swept through the mountains, and a chilling wolf how shattered my thoughts into clarity.
I looked down to see my mate,
Alpha Marcus, using his powerful Alpha presence to tightly hold the team back.his face twisted with stubborn rage.“Wait another ten minutes! Selena is on her way back with the ieweiry! lt's too dangerous for her out there alone!
Behind him, a few loyal warriors echoed his sentiments.
“Yeah, Beta Felix, let's hold on for Selena, she's doing this for the pack:"
"Look at all these rogues surrounding us. How can she make it back alone? We're a team; we can't leave anyone behind!”
Alpha Marcus's gaze was fixed on me, his golden Alpha eyes filled with warning, Each word he spat felt like it was squeezed from clenched teeth.“Elena! My Luna, you have to stay too! We're waiting for Selena together!”
I watched the extreme distortion in his face, a bone-chilling dread creeping up my spine, The wolf inside me, Eila, howled in agony, sending waves of Marcus's l raging emotions through our mate bond, violently tearing at my soul.
In my past life, l had used our fragile mate link to soothe his furious wolf persuading him rand the hesitant warriors to leave. But Selena died in that disaster.
After that, Alpha Marcus blamed her death entirely on me.
“it's your fault, Elena! You killed her!”He grabbed my shoulders, shaking me violently, his once-admiring eyes now filled only with hatred. “lf we had waited just a little longer, Selena wouldn't have died!"
After the memorial for Selena, Alpha Marcus pushed me off a cliff without hesitation. The pack members on the shore watched indifferently, until !shattered upon the rocks below.
Now, staring at the familiar faces around me, all that lingered in my heart was a cold bitter hatred. Since he was so willing to throw his life away, i'd make sure he got his wish.
Under everyone's gaze, l lifted my eyes, expressionless as l locked onto Alpha Marcus.
“lf you're going to wait, don't hold everyone else back from living." with that, l turned to Beta Felix at the front of the group and said firmly, “Beta Felix,as Luna, I'm ordering everyone to leave immediately.”
“Since Alpha Marcus is voluntarily giving up this chance to retreat, we should respect his choice. Even if he's Alpha, when the safety of the whole pack is at stake, we have to prioritize the majority."
My voice was law, yet it cut through the chaos of battle, clear in every werewolf's ears.
Alpha Marcus and his followers were momentarily stunned. Their expressions shifted from anger to disbelief.
They never expected that l would dare to openly defy the Alpha's orders
Beta Felix locked eyes with me, a flash of complexity in his gaze, yet ultimately resolute, He no longer hesitated, nodding and yelling to the warriors behind him, "Everyone, stay close! Let's move!"
“Elena! How dare you!" Alpha Marcus finally snapped back to reality letting out a furious roar. His overpowering Alpha presence crashed over me like a tidal wave, trying to pin me in place.
But l merely stared coldly at him.The wolf l carried inside mourned, the mate link relayed his fury to me, giving me a pounding headache, but l stubbornly held it together.
The group began to move forward decisively charging ahead, Beta Felix and the other warriors held back Marcus's pressure, forcing him to stumble a few steps back, neary falling into the mud.
"Elena! You selfish, despicable she-wolf! The Moon Goddess will punish you!”
"Elena, stop! Make Beta Felix stop!”
I didn't look back. l simply walked steadily among the ranks, peering through the gaps between warriors to see those figures growing smaller in the chaos and darkness.
Just then, my pupils narrowed in shock.
I caught sight of a figure emerging from a hidden cave not far be hing us.
It was Selena.
