Kaida returned to the organization’s headquarters, a nondescript building in the heart of the financial district.
Augustus Griffin, her mentor and adoptive father, awaited her in his office.
“Kaida, my best agent and daughter”, he said, his voice low and gravelly. “I have a new assignment for you”.
But before he could continue, a sudden gasp escaped his lips. His eyes widened and he slumped forward.
Kaida’s world went dark. She felt a presence behind her and spun around, her blade flashing in the dim light but there was no one there.
She began to scream, shouting for help, as tears streamed down her face. Some of the organization members, Sophia, Victor Vex, Lena and Marcus Black bursted into the room, lifting up his body, they entered into a black van, zooming off to the hospital.
Kaida stood outside the hospital room, her eyes fixed on the frail figure lying in the bed. Augustus was dying. The doctors had given up hope, they told her to say her goodbyes.
“Kaida, I want you to promise me something,” Augustus whispered, his voice weak but determined.
“Anything, Gus,” Kaida replied, her voice steady.
“You need to take charge of the organization, he coughed slightly, shifting his position on the bed, The rival faction, The Order of the Black Rose, they will stop at nothing to see you go down”.
Kaida nodded, her mind racing. She had heard stories about the rival faction and she knew they were behind the investigation that was being carried out on Richard Langley.
She kept this piece of information to herself. She promised to handle it but it seems the cops were getting close to the truth but she wouldn’t let that happen.
Augustus' loud cough broke her thoughts bringing her back to reality.
She rushed to his side and held his cold hands, she began rubbing them together to keep him warm.
“There is something else,Kaida, " Augustus whispered, as a trickle of spittle came down to his chin.
Kaida grabbed a wipe from his hospital bag and cleaned his mouth.
“I am listening, Gus”, she said, her eyes glistening with tears.
Her gaze lingered on his frail form, her throat constricting as she remembered the countless times he had protected her, taught her, and guided her.
She owed him everything, and the weight of that debt settled heavy on her shoulders.
“I want you to take care of..” Augustus’s chest rose and fell in shallow gasps, his eyes sunken and cloudy as he struggled to speak.
Kaida grasped his hand, her own eyes burning with tears as she leaned close. “Gus..?”, she whispered, her voice cracking.
His gaze flickered up to hers, a faint smile trembling on his lips. “Kaida..my daughter…” he whispered, his voice barely audible.
Then, with a final sigh, his body relaxed, his eyes freezing in a permanent stare. Kaida felt his hand go limp in hers, and a sob tore from her throat as she held him, rocking back and forth in a futile attempt to bring him back to life.
Kaida’s voice shattered the silence of the hospital room, a raw, anguished cry that sent shivers down the spines of the medical staff.
“No, no, no! Don’t let him go! Please, you have to save him!” She pleaded, her words tumbling out in a desperate rush.
She grasped Augustus’s hand, her fingers intertwining with his as she shook him again. “Gus, don’t leave me! Please, don’t go!”
The doctors and nurses exchanged somber glances, their faces a blur of sympathy and regret as they tried to pry her away from the bedside.
“Miss Blackwood, I am so sorry…” one of them began, but Kaida cut him off with a fierce cry. “No! You can’t give up on him! You have to try harder!”
“There is nothing more we can do, he is dead” another one said.
Kaida looked at them, her eyes pleading and begging but it was over. Augustus Griffin had died.
As she left the hospital room, exhausted and feeling alone, she noticed a group of men lurking in the shadows.
They were members of “The Red Hand”, and they looked like they meant business. Kaida knew she had to be careful.
She was the top agent in the organization, and she had made many enemies.
Kaida's car screeched out of the hospital parking lot, the tires squealing in protest as she sped away from the scene of her mentor's death.
The city streets blurred together in a haze of neon lights and concrete canyons, her mind racing with the implications of Augustus's final words.
She gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles white with tension, as she navigated the crowded roads with a precision born of long practice.
The Red Hand's headquarters loomed ahead, its sleek black skyscraper piercing the night sky like a shard of glass.
Kaida's heart quickened as she approached the building, her senses on high alert for any sign of danger.
She knew she was walking into a viper's nest, but she had no choice. This was her world now, and she was ready to fight for it.
As she pulled into the underground parking garage, the security cameras swiveled to track her movement, their red eyes glowing like embers in the dark.
Kaida's hand instinctively went to the knife sheathed at her hip, her fingers drumming a staccato beat on the grip as she waited for the elevator to arrive.
The doors slid open with a soft hiss, revealing a dimly lit corridor that stretched out like a gauntlet, challenging her to enter.
