Chapter 22: Innovative SolutionsIt took no time for Jace and Macon to go to the warehouse and load a bedstead, box spring, and mattress into the back of the truck. They didn’t spot any new vehicles in front of Cody’s future dwelling.
“Stay with the bed and truck,” Jace said to Macon.
“Don’t be giving me orders,” Macon said, then smiled. “I’ll stay here while you have some alone time with Cody—but I’m doing it because I want to, and it’s the best thing to do. You—don’t screw things up. He’s in pain and probably vulnerable.”
Jace got out of the truck and rushed behind the building toward the dock where Cody said he’d be waiting. He found Cody sitting at the end of the dock with his feet hanging over the side.
“Don’t jump,” Jace said, then chuckled. “Things aren’t that bad yet.”
