Rex didn't hesitate. He knew the fight was inevitable. He didn't have time to run or hide. He was caught with Kilo who was unconscious. "Ghost! Cover!" Rex yelled. Ghost didn't need to be told twice. He dropped Kilo's stretcher, grabbed his rifle, and sprinted behind a broken slab of nearby concrete. Rex grabbed the machine gun and rolled behind Kilo’s body, using her as a defense. The guards didn't wait. They opened fire instantly. Bullets hammered the ground around them, kicking up huge plumes of dirt and rock dust. Rex kept his head down, the heat scope useless in the blinding daylight. This was Julian's last stand, Rex thought. They are fighting for their dead King. Julian used to tell me that in a real fight, the first one to shoot loses control of the situation. He was wrong.
