Witches were something that had existed since the dawn of time. Through ages past they had been revered and venerated, wise women and men who led whole groups through periods of great distress. Slowly though over time people began to fear them and their powers. People did not like what they could not understand or control, and corrupt users of the arts had already sullied the name of witches everywhere. So now by the time Casimir and his friends were doing their part, things had gotten quite complicated.
The Triquetra was one such group, but they were not a good group. They were spiritual assassins, people, and beings hired to do their nasty dirty work when a person did not want to get their hands dirty. They also had interesting items of powers, and people with particularly strong magical abilities. That was where their interest in Casimir came from. His birthmark, known as the Devil’s Kiss, meant that for some reason he was born with exceptional dark magic powers. He would have to learn to control these powers and the impulses which went with them if he intended to use his powers effectively. That was where the problem came from. Looking for some way to hide himself Casimir had used a dark magic spell to transmigrate his soul from his body to another. It was migrated to the body of one young man who had just died, and now the real shenanigans were about to begin
Liam was slowly adjusting to life in his new body, the trouble is he did not know it was a new body. He had no idea that buried in his psyche was an 18-year-old man, trapped watching everything and unable to speak or act. It was like watching a movie and not being able to close your eyes. Casimir had been present for the dream as well. He gathered from what little bit he had read before the incantation that this LaSheinDei meant only one of their souls could have the body since Liam had died. The soul Transmigration had inadvertently trapped his soul in the plain of the living, as such it was unable to move on. Life and death were out of balance and needed to gain balance.
Meanwhile…
Avery extended his hand to Abigail who took it graciously. She was not the most gracious of women in most cases but meeting the very king of the fae was an unusual set of circumstances, and it had to mean a huge imbalance in the universe had occurred or something just as bad. Either way, she was ready to hear what it was and work as a Warden of this Grove to stop what she could and balance what she could.
“Warden Abigail, we have a big problem on our hands.”
“What seems to be the problem Highness?”
“An ancient and very great evil has been released. If it is not stopped all may be in danger. Someone has been playing with extreme demonic magics, and it has been in this area.”
“I have felt the disturbances myself but have been unsure of their cause. A great evil does not sound good.”
“It’s not, and I am not sure any of us are prepared to handle what this demon seeks to cause.”
Back at Liam’s…
Liam went to school, came home, he did all the normal things a 13-year-old would do the problem was he just did not feel right. Not only did it feel like someone was always around, but it also felt like something was missing. On this day though things were about to get even more strange. As Liam bathed, he noticed on his arm a strange mark, it was in the shape of a bite mark with two very pronounced canine marks. He knew he had never been bitten, so where did this mark come from. Getting dressed he walked to his mother.
“Mom look.”
His mother looked over, and seeing the bite mark about had a cow, which was until it was obvious it was not a fresh mark. They looked at it under a magnifying glass and everything. It looked surface deep not like a scar, more like a birthmark. The trouble was he had never had a birthmark before. Things had been odd since he died and came back. They were trying to be supportive, but with weirds things like this happening, it was hard. Liam had been talking about feeling watched and never being alone. His parents worried that the death scenario had damaged him or broke him mentally. So, they decided it would be an innovative idea for him to see a shrink.
“Dad, I don’t need a shrink I am fine!”
“You are clearly not fine. Weird marks, strange dreams, talking about feeling like you are always being watched. You have been through something I cannot even begin to comprehend, and maybe you just need some help through it.”
Liam pouted for a few moments and then followed his parents to the car. Little did he know the horror about to befall him and his family. As they drove down the road to Blue Mountain Counselling, they suddenly were stopped by a strange woman in the road. She had shoulder-length red hair, and it was not until they were closer, they could see she had purple glowing eyes. They threw the car into reverse, but purple flames ignited the tires slowing their escape. Liam yelled and his mother screamed. The car was on fire. The woman walked over and opened the door through the flames. Liam scooched back away from her as far as he could, but she leaned in and grabbed him by the neck. She was incredibly strong as she yanked him from the car. His parents each grabbing a leg and trying to hold on, flames burning both his body and their arms, but this demon had one thing in mind, the Devil’s kiss. For she was Zenduraka, and she wanted more power.
“You impudent little rats!”
The car exploded into a thousand pieces. Liam tried to scream, he tried to cry, he tried to do anything, but he could not. To his horror as his parents blew to bits, he felt hopeless. Inside of him, the emotions triggered Casimir. He had watched his own mother die similarly, at the hands of something evil. As his anger began to well the Devil’s Mark began to glow a furious red. Zenduraka’s eyes opened wider as the light became very bright and in a huge flash, she was sent hurling backward.
Abigail and the others rounded the corner just in time to see a car with people in it explode. The young man Zenduraka was after was already in her clutches. They began to rush forward, but then a strange red light emitted from the young man hurling Zenduraka backward and shocking them all. Zenduraka’s now smoking body slowly rose from the ground and landed back on her feet. A huge smile crossed her face.
“Oh yes, your powers are delicious. Give them to me boy and your death will be swift.”
Liam was shocked by what just happened. How had that energy come from him? It was just like one of his RPGs or an anime. He stepped back, and that was when a volley of arrows thudded into Zenduraka. She gasped and stepped back in shock more than anything. She turned to face her opponent. It was several fae and a Warden. Things had just gotten more interesting, for they would make excellent lunches as well.
“Ho, what have we here, a welcoming committee. You boy must be especially important, no matter I will deal with you in time. For now, it pleased me to let you live. The stink of the earth is upon you mortals. For now, I shall let you live, but now I know where you are, and I will always find you. Pay attention little boy, your powers will be mine!”
In a flash of purple light, she was gone. Liam burst into tears and ran towards the flaming debris of the car. Feet from it he fell to his knees and wailed in agony at the loss of his parents. Abigail held her tears. She walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. He looked up.
“What’s happening!? What was that thing!?”
Abigail sighed.
“I will explain as much as I know, but first we need to get you away from here. Come with me, I know a safe place.”
Avery and the others accompanied Liam and Abigail to her house in the woods up the Touchet. There she brewed tea and sat the boy down. She looked him over, he was no witch, so what was he. And then she saw the devil's kiss. She thought for a moment.
“That boy was a demoness. She is after magical powers, and somehow you have magical powers, though not your own. We need to figure out what you have magical powers and where this came from.”
Liam pointed to the mark.
“That just appeared yesterday, I have no idea how or why.”
Meanwhile in the Depths below Dayton…
Dark Lord stood before his thirteen generals, and then Zenduraka reappeared. She was smiling a vicious smile, and she walked slowly forward. Everyone turned to her. Dark Lord speaking first.
“So where is the boy?”
“He had defenders. A warden and some fae. He must be particularly important if such beings are protecting him. It is going to take more than me to get to him for my powers are limited in this body.”
Dark Lord moved right into her bubble and close to her face.
“You are telling me that even in this witch's body you do not have the power to defeat one inexperienced witch?”
“You listen here human. That boy has immensely powerful magic defending him. You want his powers; you get them.”
Zenduraka vanished. Dark Lord called after her but there was no response. Owing to him her freedom did not really place her at his disposal, and she would not be spoken to in that fashion by a mere mortal. No, she would find the soul stone Dark Lord had been stealing souls with and steal his soul as well. He could not cash in on her awing him anything if he were dead. She smiled to herself from above Rock Hill. This cute tiny town would be hers in no time, and the coven of Demonic witches was going to be her first treat.
Back at Abigail's…
Abigail explained witches and magic as best she could to Liam, but his mind was being totally blown by the knowledge. How could this even be possible? Of course, he also had Elves in his presence. He watched his parents get blown up by a glowing-eyed lady. So, it was clear that what he was being told was true. Abigail sighed.
“You will need to be trained to use your magic, I can do this, but you must follow what I tell you precisely. Magic is by its very nature volatile and will kill you.”
Liam swallowed hard.
Avery spoke next.
“Clearly you have things here under control. I must return to Faelund and address my people. We have many preparations to make. This is not going to be the end of Zenduraka by any means, and if she wants that child she will not stop until she has him or is dead or sealed. We must be ready to do either or both.
