Learning the Truth Begins

There are many classifications of Angel that most people do not know about. Sure, they can look up Enochian magic, and all the different Angelic information that books and the internet have the offer, but they are sorely lacking incorrect information and correct descriptions. One such group of angels are called Nobodies. They are elite guards and assassins of the holy order. They work in small groups or singularly to carry our surgically precise missions and keep the magical world secret. Andre’ was one such Nobody. He had known the Yost family since Casimir was just a child, but like many things he had been kept a secret. “Casimir, I want you to meet Andre,’ he will be your bodyguard while we get you ready to protect yourself. Your natural defences are quite powerful but using your full force uncontrolled is dangerous and frankly destructive. Many forces want to see you on their side, we will make sure you end up with the correct ones.” Casimir had only just woken up a few hours earlier. He had no idea how long they were in the van, or where they had gone, but now they were in a huge mansion, and he was laying in bed with a washcloth on his forehead. Slowly sitting up, he nodded to Andre who nodded back. The man was about six feet tall and built like a brick s**t house. He had huge muscles and a package to match. Casimir blushed at the fact he had looked at the man’s bulge. He was raised to be modest. He had some unpleasant habits, or so he thought. Now that he was learning his whole family was witches, he did not know where he stood with God or anything. He looked down. “Where is my dad?” Andre looked at him compassionately. “He will be joining us soon. He has been traveling the world looking for powerful artifacts which might be used to defeat our current greatest threat known only as of the Dark Lord.” “Do you know how much that sounds like something out of a video game?” “Yeah well, we did not choose the name, he did. He is a megalomaniac with magical powers, and he wants to add yours and people like your powers to his stockpile. We intend to stop him finally as a coven, but we may have bitten off more than we can chew.” Casimir slowly stood from the bed. He felt like he had been hit in the head with a hammer. Andre walked to him with a strange cup of blue bubbling liquid. As much as Cas wanted to trust this man, his brother, or any of the others, the fact remained they had all been part of a huge lie that consumed his entire life. They had not prepared him for this day, and as a result, he was unable to help his mother. In so many ways he was angry with them, and yet relieved that he was not alone in this mess. He looked at Duke with wonder in his eyes. “So where are we exactly?” “We drove for two days while you were out cold. We are in a small town in South-Eastern Washington known as Dayton. It has one of the few naturally occurring groves left in America. We can seek help from the Warden of the grove, she might be able to help us overcome this current threat, but beyond that, unless you can gain control of your powers quickly, we may be outmatched.” Casimir was a little shocked. From Colorado Springs to Washington in just a couple of days. It was a lot more oxygen-rich at this level of altitude, but he wondered what was happening to their pets, and what about his friends. What about his entire life before all of this? So, in anger, he asked. “So, what about George, and what about my life, I mean I may not have had a lot of friends or any friends, but I liked my life, and I was comfortable, and mom was alive! Why didn’t you all just tell me what I was!” Duke nodded and grabbed Cas by the arm pointing to his birthmark. “This is why Cas. This simple birthmark is the whole reason for all of this. For all the lies, the secrets, and the death. Therefore, that evil witch is after you, and this is what the Dark Lord wants.” Casimir looked at the birthmark. It resembled a bite mark on his arm. He had always wondered about it, but his parents had always told him it was just a birthmark. Now he was learning that all along it was the secret for all his secrets. He had loathed himself for a long time. He could recall as far back as fourth grade, praying, begging, and pleading with God to be made straight. He did not want to go to hell, he did not want to be an abomination, he wanted to be free and clear, but in his heart, his attraction for men remained. The reason was that he was a witch, and witches were meant to be killed according to scripture. He looked down. “Duke, my whole life is a sham. Do you know what you have done to me? You have made all I am a lie. Everything I thought and believed. None of it is real!” Duke looked his brother in the eyes. “That is not true. You believe what you believe, and that is what is important. There is one other option, which will not make you safe, but it will end most of the hunting. There is a ritual that can strip you of all your powers. You would be a normal human being. Granted the demons and evil witches and so on might not know that at first, and we would still have to protect you, but you would be free of all of this. You could go back to being a Christian boy, you could be anything you wanted to be. Don’t give up on what you were, simply let it evolve into what you are.” When did Duke become this philosophical and amazing? Cas felt better. Then his stomach grumbled. Andre and Duke both laughed, and in a moment so was Casimir. Granted it was not particularly funny, but for some reason, it struck them as such. After a good, and much needed, laugh they led Cas to the dining room. Their food was brought to him. Sandwiches. It might not have been as fancy as the house they were in, but it sure tasted good. Casimir was eating when his father walked in. Tears welled up in his eyes and he stood to look at his father. Then he ran to him and gave him a hug. The two held each other for several minutes not speaking. It had been a rough couple of days. “Casimir, I am so so sorry for everything which has happened. Had we known it would turn out like this, we would have never lied to you. We thought that if you never used your magic, you could never be traced, but then came the Dark Lord.” Casimir nodded. He asked… “Who is this Dark Lord, and where does he come from?” Jason sighed. “Witches are not the only magical beings that exist in our world. In fact, there are quite a few, all of whom serve incredibly special purposes in the Universe. One of those beings is a Phoenix, plural Phoeni. Being a phoenix is not something you are born with, it is something you are given, a title and powers to go with so you can protect the Universe from those who would destabilize it. The Dark Lord is a fallen Phoenix. He fell from grace for reasons we can only imagine, but somehow, he managed to retain most of his Phoenix abilities. We had a head-to-head encounter. Remember when I broke my back skiing?” “Yeah?” “Dark Lord.” Casimir had to swallow hard at that one. He had always admired his father’s strength, but that same strength had been turned into strict punishments and lofty expectations. All of that was an attempt to keep him safe, but if this Dark Lord was powerful enough to break his father’s back, Casimir was impressed and worried. What if he could not match him? What if he was weak, or he froze? Looking into his father’s eyes he saw compassion and love he had never seen before. It was like the twilight zone. To have him live a normal life, they had all become people they were not. Now the truth was after them, and Casimir was more than a little overwhelmed. That night Casimir tried to sleep but he could not. His mind kept replaying his mother being struck by lightning repeatedly. She had lived too. Had he not been there she might still be alive. He was a distraction. She had given her life for him, and for what. So, he could sit on his ass while everyone protected him. He wept bitterly to himself, the survivor guilt wracking his mind. Andre and Jason sat near the fireplace in the great room. They were quiet at first, but then the things which needed to be said began to flow from Jason’s lips. “You have a blood debt to repay, and I now transfer that debt to my sons. You guard them with your life, and you make sure they know as much as they can so they can continue this battle even if something happens to me.” “You sound like you are about to do something reckless.” “No, just getting ready. That witch in the woods was powerful. We may have all bitten off more than we can chew. If that is the case this might be a short campaign against the Dark Lord.” Jason looked at his wedding ring, a tear fell down his cheek. “She would be so proud of Casimir right now. Despite how upset he is, he is really doing quite well, but I worry this might be too much for him. As much as we protected him, we coddled him. He has a tender heart and a gentle soul. Warrior life might not be for him.” Andre laughed. “Remember high school when you faced your first demon?” “Yeah?” “You were so green that your voice cracked as you said the incantation to bind it. Now, look at you. You hunt demons and those who would exploit their power. You are capable of much more than you think you are. Sandy did exactly what she set out to do. She made sure Casimir was safe, granted she did not know he was going to use his raw powers to black with Wicked Witch, but he certainly surprised us all. With his raw untrained power being that strong imagine what proper training could do.” “That is what I am counting on. If he is as powerful as I suspect he is, he might be the secret weapon we need to face the Dark Lord and win. So many hangs in the balance of preventing his Devil’s kiss from falling in the wrong hands. He must learn to use his demon magic just as much as his witchcraft.” The two nodded. This would be no easy task given that Demonic magic was both volatile and frankly nasty to work with. It was darker than the blackest magic most witches ever dreamed of dealing with, and they could not imagine anything like trying to use it. That was when the whole building shook. Jason and Andre jumped to their feet. Andre headed to Casimir’s room, and Jason grabbed his sword. Moments later the wall in the side of Casimir’s room exploded and in floated the same witch from before. She looked banged up and pissed. “Well, it sure took us a while to hunt you down, but we managed given your powerful energy signature. You sure taught me to underestimate my enemies, but this time I will do no such thing. Casimir Yost, surrender your powers, or I will destroy every member of this coven, one by one.” Andre appeared between Casimir and the woman. In a flash of brilliant light, wings appeared on his back and covering his body front and back. His face was obscured by a white hood and robes descended to the floor. In one hand was a blazing sword, and in the other was a censor full of the sweetest smelling incense Casimir had ever encountered. Cygnus's eyes widened. She had not prepared for this. “No witch, you are not going to harm the boy or anyone else. You will die a painful death, and you will pay for what you did to Sandra.” Cygnus swallowed hard at the presence of the Angel. Then he glorified himself and terror gripped her soul. She fell to her knees with a whimper and covered her eyes. Andre raised the censor, but as he was about to strike her with it, a vortex opened behind her, and a hand pulled her through the vortex and to safety. She gasped for air as she disappeared from before the angel. Deep below Dayton… The Dark Lord looked down at Cygnus while she regained her composure. He had not counted on a Nobody being in the service of the witches. A Nobody would indeed be a big problem. He rubbed his beard for a moment as Cygnus knelt before him. “Master, as you know they have an angelic working with them. My power as it is is no match for such a creature. We must use another method to extract the boy's powers.” Dark Lord laughed at the assertion of his minion. Her fear fed his ego because he knew deep down as a Witch, she had the power to confront any demon she wanted. She might not win, but she could leave a mark. However, in the presence of an angel, she could not do a thing. Angels and demons were vastly different beings. He turned. “Bring the secret weapon.” A dais on wheels was rolled out before them. One the dais was none other than Sandy Yost. Dark Lord giggled. “While you were a distraction, I took the liberty of stealing mommy dearest. We are going to use this body to torment and f**k with their minds. We are going to infuse it with Zenduraka.” Cygnus’s eyes widened. Zenduraka was an enormously powerful demon. In fact, she was an ancient demon, one who the Phoenix Council had barely subdued. At some point in his fall from grace, Dark Lord had begun feeding Zenduraka the souls of virgins. The result was she was able to break free from her prison and begin wreaking havoc again. The other side effect, she also owed Dark Lord a debt and could be compelled to do his bidding so long as she owed him something. A lamp like what a genie would be in held her essence, as she could not be allowed to just strut around. Walking to the corpse he poured the contents of the lamp into her mouth. At first, nothing happened, but then her eyes snapped open glowing red, and a wicked laugh echoed through the entire place.
