Chapter two

ANDYXOLENE As I took a proper look at the person in front of me, I realized it was my ex-boyfriend Trance. His oud scent, tousled blonde hair, and piercing gaze made him instantly recognizable. Glancing around as if he were avoiding someone, he lowered his hand and smiled, saying, "Sorry about that.” “What is wrong with you?” I tried to calm my heart down. “You scared me, I thought something else was following me” “Something?” He asked those blue eyes I used to love locking into mine. “Don't tell me you thought a monster was chasing you” I hissed, trying to break free, but when I glanced down, I saw he was holding my wrists firmly. "What are you doing? Let go of me." I attempted to pull away, but his grip was too strong. “Tell me, why are you back early tonight?” He looked down at my purse. “You made a lot of money tonight, huh?” I kept resisting, but he released my hand only to seize my jaw. Trance was always abusive, which is why I ended things, but he refused to let go. He followed me around, claiming I owed him for all the times he helped me. "You know I asked you to quit that job, but you didn't," he went on, his eyes now filled with anger. "You're making other men look at you.” "I'm not your girlfriend anymore," I managed to say, but he shoved me against the wall, making me hit my head. I tried to push him away with my free hand, but it was useless. "You know I'll always love you," he said, giving me a lustful look before pressing his lips to mine in a hungry kiss. I did like him but not the way he treated me, like I was some property of his. I managed to shove him away, and just as he attempted to lunge at me once more, the street lamp nearby suddenly burst, sending sparks of electricity flying in the air. This unexpected scene distracted Trance, and I immediately ran away from him. I didn't even bother looking back to see if he followed me or not. CHRISTIAN I watched her dash home, lingering in the shadows as Trance fumed with anger over losing her. I expected him to chase after her, but instead, he just strolled up the street in defeat. I couldn't understand her choice of men. Of all the men out there, she chose someone from the dark side, someone who harms and robs her. I faced the consequences for revealing myself and speaking to her that evening. She was never meant to see an Angel, yet she saw me. I was ordered to protect her as she had come of age, from her father. She barely knows herself. Her roots. I watched her through the window as she emptied the money onto the bed and began counting it. I knew people lived for money but never anyone who revered it quite like she did. I had tipped her so she could leave that dreadful place. I knew what would become of her if she stayed there longer. “Ten thousand, two hundred dollars,” I heard her exclaim happily, lying on the bed and placing the money on her face excitedly. “Damn it, girl, you got that body” She got up and began to dance. I was satisfied to see her smile. She gathered the money and opened her wardrobe, tucking it into the pocket of a hoodie before loosening her jacket. As she stood there in just her lingerie, preparing to take a shower, I couldn't help but notice the red marks on her wrists and backside, evidence of where she had been restrained and hit that night. It wasn't my place to intervene in the latter, it was her decision to make. “Taurus!” Azrael's voice thundered and I appeared before him immediately. His gaze was fixed on the lifeless body of a young man, tragically sprawled in a car that had collided with a tree. “A lost soul?” I asked standing beside him. “No, but a vessel for you.” I looked at Azrael quite puzzled. “You are to take his place, be the new Baron on Nestleton and then the daughter of Lucifer would come to you for protection” It is a sad thing that the young man was dead, but I would return as him. But it would be devastating to the family when I leave after my mission and their son dies again. As I merged with the body, I felt its weakness. I looked up at Azrael who began to fade away. I caught my reflection in the side mirror of the car. All my physical qualities were reduced, and my eyes had dimmed. The different colors that lingered in my Iris were the only thing supernatural about me. This was the new me. Soon, I heard the cry of an ambulance and people approaching, I sat back to be rescued.
