Chapter one
PROLOGUE
CHRISTIAN
I watched the woman who curled up on the couch fast asleep, with a remote control in her hand, the TV illuminating its light on her face.
She looked peaceful just like her heart. I had brought the answers to her prayer and settled the ethereal golden scroll upon her, which vanished, transforming into a crown which adorned her head.
Just then the door flew open and a lady walked in. She had long curly brown hair, contradicting her long black lashes which flurried as she spoke on the phone.
I watched her, even though I was supposed to be on my way.
She had a slender and graceful figure. Her skin was milky with a hint of amber, eyes deep emerald and lips a light orange hue.
She looked like the daughter of men but I could see more darkness around her.
She threw her phone into the chair at another failed attempt to get a job, before gently taking the remote from the woman lying on the sofa. She turned off the TV and stood beside me and we watched the sleeping woman together.
I noticed tears strolling from her eyes and she wiped it quickly whispering. “Why am I cursed? Why can't I get a decent job” She rested her hands on the backrest of the sofa.
I felt hurt, I never wanted to see a woman cry. Amidst all that darkness there was a kind heart which I saw.
I placed my hand on hers and whispered “Just pray and I'll come to you”
She looked up immediately as if hearing me, searching for the voice. I watched her squint her eyes, then a sudden shock plastered on her face. She had seen me.
ANDYXOLENE
Was that an Angel? I clutched the hem of my dress tightly, trying to steady my racing thoughts. I saw his eyes which shone like the moon.
CHAPTER ONE
ANDYXOLENE
I smiled and bit my lips as the man sitting in front of me brought out a bundle of cash and gestured for me to come forward. I went on all fours and approached him and he placed a few notes into my bra. Turning to the side, he spanked my butt, and I laughed, standing up to walk back to my pole.
I didn't like this job as a pole dancer in a club but that's the one people didn't hesitate to give me. And since it paid more with an expected harassment, I always took it.
The other girls tend to sell their bodies for money, especially when they see rich clients but I didn't want that. I just want to dance around a pole, get tipped, get paid for my time, and leave.
I moved out of Mrs Lee's house because I felt like I was leeching up her finances. And I moved in with my friend Claire who works in this club with wealthy clients. She told me that she would get me someone to take care of my bills while I cared for his needs. But I didn't want that, I didn't want to be answerable to an old man.
The rough music filled my ears and my feet were getting tired from the high heels I wore. I needed a break. As I walked around the pole staring at the crowd, I noticed a man dressed in a black suit and a hat veiling his eyes. I knew he was watching me because he didn't move or turn away.
He looked different from all the other men I've seen in the club. Who wears a hat inside at night?
I pulled myself up the pole, using my legs for support. I leaned back to look at this man again. I could see him upside down now, but then he lifted his face, and I saw those eyes that once made me scared.
I didn't grow past the fear because I left the pole out of shock and fell to the ground causing a big thud, drawing the attention of everyone.
I didn't feel any pain but got up to look at this person who placed a few bundles of money on the tray of a waiter, whispered something to him, got up, and left.
I failed to notice my colleague who was asking if I was all right. I watched this man walk out while the waiter brought the money to me saying it was a tip from an admirer.
Coming to my senses, I got on my feet and took the money from the tray, taking a few notes to tip the waiter. I rushed backstage, avoiding everyone, even my boss. I looked for my bag and secured the money in it first before turning to face him.
“Are you out of your mind?” he shouted. “Are you trying to embarrass me?”
James didn't tolerate mistakes at all. “I'm sorry James” I looked for an excuse “My bra was about to come loose”
“Then you would have f*****g let it,” he shouted, and I looked away. I didn't want to say anything more to provoke him. I've got enough money now he won't see me for a month. “I wouldn't have accepted you if it wasn't for Claire who promised me your pretty face would earn me money. You had refused all my clients”
I just needed to get out of there. “I’m sorry I feel sick. Can I go home?”
James glared at me. “I'm not paying you tonight”
I didn't care.
“And next time,” he added “If you make such a big mistake, you'll be the one to pay me” With those words he left me and I quickly took off my shoes, put on a slipper, put on my jacket, tied it up and carried my bag, straight out of the club.
I walked down my street, it was dimly lit, lonely, and quiet. I just wanted to get home, grab a can of soda, sit on the bed, and count my money. I have been so broke these days that I couldn't even afford something as low as toilet paper.
I noticed a large shadow beneath me, resembling a tall man, but when I turned around, no one was there. The dim light flickered, and as I glanced down, the man's shadow started to go crooked. I heard footsteps behind me and spun around quickly, but I still saw no one. Fear gripped me, and I picked up my pace.
The footsteps grew louder but I couldn't see anyone still. I panicked.
What sort of dark magic was this?
The path before me was darker and as I turned onto the next street, I suddenly felt a strong tug pulling me back. I was on the verge of letting out a scream when, in an instant, a hand swiftly covered my mouth, silencing me before I could make a sound.
