ANDYXOLENE
“Why did you leave Mrs Lee?” Scale asked me as he stepped into Claire's house which he wasn't comfortable in. “I told you not to leave there, you'll go back to working in the club”
“I'm not working in the club” I lied. “I told Claire I'll be here for a few days. She let me”
He raised an eyebrow at me, and I instantly knew he could tell I was lying. We both grew up in the same orphanage, but he was lucky enough to be fostered, while I stayed until I had to leave. We met years later and have been inseparable ever since.
Scale had been there for me, like an elder brother, and my only family. I couldn't imagine a life without him in it.
“You don't have to lie to me princess,” He said, taking a seat. “Does Claire bring the men home?”
“She's barely home” I lied again. It wasn't even long before she left with one of her clients. “She stays at the hotel mostly”
“Come on Andy. I can't let you keep on staying here” It was certain he knew I was lying. “Soon you'll start having some Sugar Daddies”
“If he can pay the bills then why not?” I joked but the look Scale gave me made me turn away.
“I got a new job. They are hiring more but I don't think I want you to do it?”
I drew closer to him immediately. How I longed to be employed in a proper place. “Why?” I inquired.
“It's a servant role at the Baron of Nestletons mansion” He scanned me as if expecting a different expression. “I want a befitting job for you”
“I don't mind it”. I didn't mind any job at all, as long as it was decent. I smiled “I want it and the fact you'll be there. I want it more”
Scale smiled and picked up his phone to place a call across.
I sat there waiting anxiously. I've always been rejected in all my job searches. I hope this works.
I watch Scale put down his phone before saying. “My friend says he'll put you into consideration since you're coming from me” his eyes lit “So that may probably mean that you are going to get the job”
I squealed. I didn't know when I jumped into his arms and he hugged me gently. “Don't be too excited, you've not gotten it yet”
I laughed. “Let me get you a drink.” I got up and headed to the kitchen. As I approached the fridge, a wave of dizziness hit me, and everything started to fade to black.
I tried to hold onto the fridge to steady myself, but I ended up collapsing. Though I couldn't see a thing, I heard footsteps which came to a halt right in front of me.
A familiar voice thundered. “You cannot run away from your destiny, Andyxolene!” It was Trance. I looked up to see no one, just the unchanging darkness. “You must die for your father”
“Trance, please stop,” I muttered, but it continued.
“Do not leave this town, or you'll die” he whispered near my ear, causing me to flinch and glance sideways, but he moved to my other ear.“Wait until you're ready enough for me”
“Leave me alone” I tried to yell but couldn't.
Suddenly I heard Scales' voice. “Are you alright Andy?” Just then, the lights flickered back on, and I realized I was sitting on the floor, completely haggard. He hurried over to help me up. “What happened?”
“I had this weird headache, and I tripped and fell,” I lied. I couldn't bring myself to tell him that I was seeing things I didn't understand.
“Go take a seat. I'll get you a bottle of water. All right?”
******
I was lying in my room that evening when Claire knocked, dressed in a silky, revealing nightgown and high heels, with her makeup perfectly done and her blonde hair falling over her shoulders. "There's someone I want you to meet," she grinned, "Someone who can give you anything you want”
I wasn't up for it, and if I was going to land a job in the other town, I didn't need a sugar daddy. I decided to lie. "I'm sorry Claire, but I'm not feeling too well today."
She hurried over and sat beside me. "What's the matter?"
I quickly thought of an excuse. "I've been having terrible cramps and feel so weak. Awful headache as well.”
She laughed. “Time of the Month right?”
I shook my head. “I'll need to go to a clinic tomorrow for a proper checkup”
“All right, dear.” She stood up. “Take care, all right? I'll come check up on you later”
It was time I told her about the job offer.
“Claire,” I called her, and she turned. “I might be moving out soon because I got a job in Nestleton”
“Wow!” She looked excited. “Congratulations. What kind of job?”
It felt heavy in my mouth. “As a helper in the Baron's household”
She frowned immediately. Walking up to me. “So, you're going to leave this free life to go be someone's servant? That's low class, you're too beautiful for that”
I knew she would say it was low-class.
“I don't mind it. I want to make my own money. I'm tired of having Scale take care of me,” I said to her, sitting on the bed now.
“Then use your body to make money,” her voice was laced with anger. I averted my gaze, staying silent. Moments later, she softened, “Good luck out there. It won't be easy, but you're a strong girl, Andy.” She left the room, and I found myself staring at the door.
I didn't want the easy way of making money. I noticed that it doesn't last compared to money earned by your blood, sweat, and tears.
And Scale didn't like such jobs.
I received an email with my contract form. I was employed. I jumped on my feet, almost screaming, but I held my mouth.
Nestleton here I come.
