That night, my condition worsened again.
Pain spread through every inch of my body. I tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.
A servant stood beside me, eyes red with concern.
"I'm informing your brothers right now. How can they let you suffer like this?"
I shook my head weakly. "Not yet."
My voice was faint but firm. "I want Lucas to watch himself destroy his own future."
The next morning, an emergency struck at the company. A major project had gone wrong. Edric rushed out to handle the crisis personally.
Soon afterward, news arrived that Monica's sister had fallen seriously ill. Monica hurried away to visit her.
Before leaving, Edric handed the villa's security authority over to Richard.
"Keep an eye on that i***t. If he goes anywhere near Vivian's bedroom, tase him and drag him out."
Monica held my hands and repeated countless instructions before finally leaving.
But less than a minute after they were gone, everything changed.
Without his parents around to restrain him, Lucas completely dropped the mask.
Bang!
The bedroom door flew open. Anila strode inside wearing my cashmere shawl.
Lucas followed behind her. In his hands was a bowl of dark medicine.
Richard and several guards rushed forward to stop them. Lucas kicked Richard to the floor without hesitation.
"You all want to get fired? I'm entering my own bedroom. And you think you can stop me?"
Richard curled up in pain.
"Mr. Ford ordered us not to disturb Vivian..."
"The hell does that have to do with me?" Lucas roared. Then he swung a baseball bat. The impact knocked Richard unconscious instantly.
The remaining servants were thrown aside by Anila's bodyguards.
Leaning against the sofa, I watched them force their way inside. My fingers clenched the blanket tightly.
"Lucas. You've lost your mind."
Lucas casually stepped over Richard's unconscious body and stopped in front of me.
Looking down at me from above, his eyes were filled with disgust.
"Vivian, I've had enough. For five years I've been trapped taking care of you. I can't even raise my voice because everyone's afraid you'll drop dead from the shock. Why should I live like that? I'm a business genius. Why should I spend my life chained to a sick woman?"
Anila laughed coldly. "Vivian, look at yourself. You're barely hanging on. Living must be miserable for you. Why not move aside already? Then I can marry Lucas and officially take over this household."
I coughed twice before letting out a cold laugh.
"You? Who do you think you are? Even if I die today, you'll never touch my place in this family."
Anila's face darkened instantly. "You b***h. You're asking for it!"
She lunged forward.
Suddenly, one of the servants threw herself between us and wrapped both arms around Anila's legs.
"You can't touch Vivian! Her brothers will never forgive you!"
"Get off me!" Anila kicked the servant away viciously. Then she grabbed the baseball bat from the table.
"What nonsense. Why would a mafia family care about some dying burden? I'll kill you first."
The bat came crashing down with terrifying force.
Seeing it about to strike the servant's head, I screamed at the top of my lungs.
"Stop!"
I reached beneath my pillow and pressed a hidden button.
It was an emergency beacon William had specially made for me. A tracking signal was embedded inside.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
A piercing alarm shattered the silence. At the same time, the emergency signal was transmitted directly to all nine of my brothers.
Lucas paused. Then he burst out laughing.
"What, calling for help? Vivian, are you delirious? This is my house. I already had your bodyguards reassigned."
His arrogant smile only made my gaze colder. I stared directly into his eyes.
"Lucas. You're finished."
