My father was the head of the Moretti family, the most powerful mafia organization in Veridian.

After having nine sons in a row, he finally got the daughter he'd always dreamed of: Me.

Unfortunately, I was born sick. My health had been fragile ever since I came into this world. Because of that, my nine brothers spoiled me beyond reason.

George, my oldest brother, constantly filled my room with gifts. "Give all of it to Vivian."

John, my second brother, would patiently sit beside my bed and feed me medicine himself. "If anyone dares make you cry, I'll break every rib in their body."

Then there was William, my third brother. One day, I casually mentioned that I liked gemstones. A week later, he spent thirty million dollars at an auction to win a sapphire necklace for me.

That was how I grew up.

Then I met Lucas. Against my family's wishes, I married him. His family's wealth wasn't even one percent of ours. But I didn't care. I thought I had found true love.

For five years, I believed I was living a fairy tale. Until the day he brought another woman home.

Her name was Anila, his business partner.

That afternoon, I merely sneezed. Anila immediately laughed.

"You're this weak? How exactly are you supposed to have Lucas's children?"

Before I could respond, I looked toward my husband. But he simply stood there watching.

My eyes burned, tears began to fall.

Slowly, I picked up a dagger from the table and pressed the blade against my throat.

"If you're really that disgusted by me... Then maybe I shouldn't keep living..."

The reaction was instant. Panic exploded throughout the villa. Everyone scrambled to stop me.

Because every person in that house knew one thing.

If even a single hair on my head was harmed there... My nine brothers would make sure Lucas's entire family disappeared from Veridian by sunrise.

Chapter 1 A Broken Vow
"Vivian!" The moment Monica Ford, Lucas Ford's mother, heard what had happened, she rushed into the mansion's living room in a panic. Monica shoved Lucas aside without hesitation, snatched the dagger from my hand, threw it onto the floor, then grabbed my trembling hands. "Sweetheart, are you trying to scare me to death?" Her face was pale with worry. Then she turned around and slapped Lucas across the face. Instinctively, Lucas stepped in front of Anila Scott, shielding her behind him. His expression darkened immediately. "Mom! Vivian's a freaking lunatic. She's always sick, always making a scene. And you're slapping me because of her? Back when my company was on the verge of collapse, Anila was the one who helped me clean up the mess. She's just straightforward. Vivian's the one throwing a tantrum over nothing. How is she supposed to be the daughter of a mafia godfather?" Anila folded her arms and looked at me with open mockery in her eyes. "The people in our company work themselves to the bone every day and never complain. Meanwhile, this spoiled princess acts like she's dying every time she sneezes. Honestly, it's kind of impressive." The contempt in her voice was impossible to miss. Monica helped me onto the couch. My breathing became heavier. A crushing ache spread through my chest, squeezing my heart tighter with every second. This was the man I had loved for years. Five years ago, Lucas had endured the brutal trials of my family's mafia organization just so he could marry me. He had traveled all over the world searching for the best doctors to treat my fragile health. Back then, he used to hold me in his arms and whisper, "Vivian, you're weak, so I'll spend the rest of my life protecting you." But ever since Anila entered his life, all the tenderness in his eyes had turned into disgust. "Lucas." I forced down the pain twisting through every inch of my body and spoke. "If you're sick of me, then divorce me. Why bring her home just to humiliate me?" Lucas let out an impatient scoff. "You're threatening me with divorce? You think I don't want one? You're useless. You can't even stay in the sun for a few minutes without getting sick. If you weren't the daughter of a mafia godfather, who the hell would marry you?" He continued. "Anila helps me solve business crises. She takes care of competitors. She actually contributes something. And you? You do nothing except sit around and get waited on." Every word felt like a knife sinking deeper into my chest. The pain became unbearable. Suddenly, the front door burst open. Lucas's father, Edric Ford, stormed into the house carrying a baseball bat. "You little bastard! I'm gonna beat some sense into you today!" Before anyone could react, he swung the bat straight at Lucas's head. Lucas panicked. His feet slipped, and he crashed onto the floor. But Anila immediately ordered her personal bodyguards to step in. They restrained Edric before the bat could land and tossed the weapon aside. "Mr. Edric Ford, please calm down. Lucas is a business genius. He shouldn't have to spend his entire life trapped with a sick woman." Edric pointed at her and exploded. "Our family matters are none of your damn business! Where are the guards? Throw this woman out of my house!" The villa's security team rushed in instantly. Within seconds, Anila's bodyguards were subdued. Both Anila and Lucas were forced to the ground. But Lucas suddenly kicked a guard away and broke free. He lunged toward the floor, grabbed the dagger I had dropped earlier, and pressed it against his own throat. "Dad! Anila is the woman I love! She's a thousand times better than that sickly burden! If you force her to leave, then I'll end my life right here!" His dramatic declaration left the room frozen. Anila's eyes immediately filled with tears. "Lucas..." The way they stared at each other, overflowing with affection, made my chest tighten even more. Then suddenly I coughed up a mouthful of blood. Bright red blood splattered across the floor. Monica's face instantly drained of color. "Doctor! Get the family doctors here now! And bring the special medication George sent over!"
