She knocked on the door and said, “Is anyone at home?” “Hold on, I am coming!” professor MacPherson said. He walked towards the pithead and opened the door. “Good evening, professor MacPherson,” Evelyn said. “Good evening, Evelyn. I guess you had a nice day?” professor MacPherson said. “Yes, I did; and you, sir?” Evelyn said. “I also had a nice day. You brought food for us?” professor MacPherson said. “Yes, I guess you are famished by now? And where is Ayla?” “Well, we are famished; Ayla is inside her room,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright, professor MacPherson; send my regards to her. Here is the food,” Evelyn said. “Alright, Evelyn,” professor MacPherson said as he collected the basket from Evelyn. “I want to be on my way now,” Evelyn said. “Alright, Evelyn; send my regards to Mason and Landon,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright, sir; goodnight,” Evelyn said and walked away. Professor MacPherson closed the door, he walked towards the dining room and dropped the basket on the table. He left the dining room for Ayla's room. “Open this door!” Professor MacPherson said when he was closer to the door of Ayla’s room. “I am coming,” Ayla said grimly. She walked towards the pithead and opened the door. “I have been in the sitting room since, and you haven’t come to check on me; what’s going on?” professor MacPherson said as he sauntered into Ayla's room. “Nothing, dad; I just want to be alone,” Ayla said. “Don’t tell me that. Come, let’s sit down,” professor MacPherson said. The twosome walked towards a couch and sat down. “You haven’t answered me, Ayla; what happened to you?” professor MacPherson said. “I said nothing, dad,” Ayla said with a quavering voice. “You are almost weeping and you said you are fine; please, talk to me,” professor MacPherson said. “Dad, I am reminiscing about the memory I had with my mum,” Ayla said and tears rolled down her face. Professor MacPherson used his palm to clean the tears and said, “Oh, look at my precious daughter’s face. Ayla, you don’t have to cry; your mum is fine.” “My mum is fine? I haven’t seen her for weeks and you said my mum is fine. I hope mum is alive?” Ayla said. “Why would you talk like that? It’s obvious my wife is fine. Look at me, Ayla, I haven’t been restful in her case. I was with my boys days ago and they assured me that they would discover Charlotte’s hideout,” professor MacPherson said. Ayla gazed at professor MacPherson and said, “You have boys?” “Never mind, Ayla; you will soon come around. I believe Charlotte will walk to this house with her feet, it’s just a matter of time,” professor MacPherson said. Ayla stood up from the couch as if professor MacPherson’s words pierced her. “That’s what you always say,” Ayla said. Professor MacPherson stood up from the couch and touched Ayla's back. “I mean it, Charlotte will walk here with her feet,” professor MacPherson said. “Well, I would love to see my mum again. I pray your promise come to reality,” Ayla said. “It will! Now, give daddy a smile,” professor MacPherson said. Ayla smiled and said, “I love you dad.” “I love you too. Now that you've smiled, would you mind taking something?” Professor MacPherson said. “Yes, dad,” Ayla said and showed her set of teeth. “Alright. Evelyn brought something for us to eat; she even asked me to greet you,” professor MacPherson said. “That’s good; she has been our backbone,” Ayla said. “Yes, she has. Shall we move now?” professor MacPherson said. “Sure!” Ayla said. The twosome sauntered towards the pithead and exited the room. It was a bright morning. Mason stood up from the bed, he gazed at the wall clock. “It's 6:58 am,” Mason muttered with a sigh. He undressed and was putting on only boxer shorts, he tied a towel round his waist and walked towards the pithead. Mason opened the door and sauntered to the bathroom. When he reached the bathroom, he removed the towel and took his bath. Soon, Mason walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. “Landon, you are awake!” Mason said when he got to the sitting room. “Good morning, dad…,” Landon said. “Morning, Landon,” Mason said, and walked towards his room. When Mason got to his room, he applied some lotion to his skin and dressed up. Since Mason began his lecturing job, he had loved wearing a suit; so he was dressed in a black suit, a tie and a pair of shoes. He clutched his briefcase and sauntered towards the pithead. “Where is this boy? Landon!” Mason said when he got to the sitting room. He dropped his briefcase on the table and sauntered towards the dining room. “Good morning, Mason!” Evelyn said as soon as she saw Mason. “Good morning, Evelyn,” Mason said, and sat down on a chair close to where Landon was sitting. Evelyn served everyone the beans and they took a spoonful of beans. “I can hear someone’s voice from the main entrance door; Landon, go and check who it is,” Evelyn said. “Alright, mum,” Landon said. He took a spoonful of beans and sauntered towards the pithead. When he was closer to the pithead, he said, “Hold on!” Landon opened the door and saw professor MacPherson standing in front. “Good morning, sir,” Landon said.
