He sauntered towards the pithead, clutching his bag. When Mason was closer to the pithead, he knocked at the door and said, “Open this door! Daddy is back!” “Hold on, dad! I am coming!” Landon said. He had been engrossed in the film he was watching. He left the film and walked towards the pithead. “Welcome, professor Mason!” Landon said as he opened the door. Mason smiled and said, “If that was supposed to be sarcasm, you have to stop it.” “No, dad,” Landon said. He collected Mason’s briefcase and both father and child walked towards the couches. “I am coming back, dad; let me take this briefcase to your room,” Landon said. “Alright, son,” Mason said. He sat down on one of the couches and began to gaze at the actions displayed on the television screen. Landon walked towards Mason’s room clutching the briefcase. When he was closer to the door of the room, he opened the door and entered the room. He placed the briefcase on a small table and sauntered towards the pithead. “Dad, I trust you are enjoying the film? Or do you want to listen to some news?” Landon said as he walked towards the sitting room. Mason smiled and said. “Well, I think this film is entertaining enough; and where is your mum?” “She is doing the cooking in the kitchen,” Landon said. “I guessed as much; she must have been engrossed in what she is doing that she can’t hear my voice,” Mason said. “Should I go and inform her that you are around?” Landon said. “That’s not necessary; I don’t want you to disturb her. Let’s watch the film,” Mason said. “Dad, do you need a cupful of cold water?” Landon said as he gazed at Mason’s face. “No, it’s not necessary. Sit down and let’s enjoy the film,” Mason said with a gesture. “Alright, dad,” Landon said and sat close to Mason on the couch. Soon, Evelyn walked into the sitting room. “So you are back, professor in the making?” Evelyn said. “I want you two to let me be,” Mason said with a smile. “Well, we won’t. I didn’t know you were around,” Evelyn said. “I restrained Landon from coming to call you. How are you?” Mason said. “Well, as you can see; I am fine. How was today's work?” Evelyn said and gazed at Mason’s face. “It was fine, Evelyn. I am famished already,” Mason said. “Well, I will be through with the cooking soon, just keep gazing at the television screen,” Evelyn said. “Alright. Please, go and continue the cooking,” Mason said as he gazed at Evelyn. “Alright. I will be right back,” Evelyn said. “It’s alright…,” Mason said. “Well done, mum,” Landon said as he took his gaze off the television screen. “Thank you, son!” Evelyn said and sauntered away. Landon and Mason continued gazing at the film displayed on the television screen. “The table is set, Mason!” Evelyn said as she walked into the sitting room. “Alright, Landon, turn off the television and let’s go and eat,” Mason said and stood up from the couch. “Alright, dad,” Landon said and stood up from the couch. “Meet us in the dining room,” Evelyn said. “Alright, mum,” Landon said. Evelyn and Mason left the sitting room for the dining room. Landon sauntered towards the electronics, he switched them off and sauntered to the dining room. “This is your food!” Evelyn said as soon as she saw Landon. “Alright, mum; thank you very much,” Landon said and sat on a chair close to where Mason was sitting. “You are welcome,” Evelyn said, and took a mouthful of the food. Landon pounced on the food as if he had not eaten for days. “Take it easy, Landon,” Evelyn said with a glare. “The food is delicious,” Landon said. Mason smiled and said, “Then, make sure you eat the plate.” “I can’t, dad,” Landon said. After clustering round the table for about 13 minutes, Evelyn said, “Since we've finished consuming our food, let me go and give professor MacPherson and daughter their food.” “Alright; please, make it snappy,” Mason said. “Alright,” Evelyn said and stood up from the chair, she then continued, “Landon, make sure you wash these plates before I come back.” “Alright, mum; please don’t stay long,” Landon said. “Alright, Landon; I will join you two in a jiffy,” Evelyn said and sauntered away. “I am off to the sitting room and would be expecting you,” Mason said. “Alright, dad,” Landon said. Landon carried the plates and walked towards the kitchen, while Mason walked to the sitting room. Mason turned on the television, he carried the remote and walked towards the couches. He sat on a couch and increased the volume of the television. “I am off to professor MacPherson’s house…,” Evelyn said when she got to the sitting room. Mason took his gaze away from the television screen and fixed it on the basket Evelyn was clutching. “Alright; don’t stay long,” Mason said. “I will be back in a jiffy,” Evelyn said, and glimpsed at the actions displayed on the television screen. She sauntered towards the pithead, opened the door and exited the sitting room.
