Memories
I stare at the ceiling in hopes of getting some answers, any answers. I refuse to accept the reality I'm living in, it just can't be. Things were so good, so peaceful, but of course the ceiling doesn't have the answers. My head’s starting to hurt. I wish I could shut my eyes and everything would just disappear. The world, the noise, everything. UGH. I hear footsteps coming towards my room. Slowly, I turned to look at the opening door. My mom stood there with lifeless eyes. I remember a time when her hazel eyes looked like melted caramel, so warm and soft. She tries her best to give me a smile, but I can see the pain behind it. “Are you ready?” She asked in a small voice. I nodded my head and gave her my best smile to encourage her. Today was the shittiest of all the days. As we walked down the stairs hand in hand, I saw my father waiting for us. He’s aged this month, he looks tired and broken. See, my family wasn’t always like this. My father is the Alpha of our pack, Alpha Anthony Cross. The Blue Moon pack is the strongest and biggest pack. Our warriors are fierce and trained to be killing machines. Since both of my parents are pure blood descendants from our Lycan ancestors, my family is seen as royalty. My father is a big man, 6’3 to be exact, he has beautiful green eyes with long eyelashes and a strong jaw. His raven black hair is always combed back while his beard is neatly shaved against his olive skin. My father is a handsome man, Daniel got most of his good looks from him, which he loved because he had all the “Alpha bunnies”, aka she-wolves who want to be Luna so badly they threw themselves at his feet. My heart aches thinking about my brother. He was supposed to be the next Alpha of our pack once he found his mate or turned 21. “Aliyah… Aliyah.. Aliyah breath.” My father’s voice snapped me out of my train of thought. I looked into his eyes before mumbling an apology and bowing my head. We were in the back garden, near the forest that surrounded our home. The day was peaceful, sunny and warm with a couple of clouds that would bring us rain later this week. The place was completely packed with our pack members and two of our closest allies. They all came to pay their respects and show support for the fallen Alpha. My beautiful brother was dead, my parents' first pup and our pack's future, Alpha, was now in a casket. Our people came to hug me and my mother while they shared their condolences with my father. We are a big family here. My father has always made everyone feel welcome and loved. Saige came up and held me for a long time, her blond hair smelled of strawberries and pine. I hugged her back as hard as I could. At that moment, the arms of my best friend seemed to be the only thing keeping me from collapsing. -FLASHBACK- “Ally, come on, let's go!” Daniel yelled as he shifted into his wolf. I’ve seen him hundreds of times but his wolf always left me stunned. Ash, his wolf, was huge, with dark brown fur and emerald green eyes. He was similar to my dad’s but a couple inches smaller. I ran as fast as I could before shifting into my wolf, Athena. As soon as my paws hit the ground, I picked up speed and followed Ash’s smell, freshly cut grass and pine. All werewolf scents have a touch of pine, even in our human forms we can smell this. It helps us know when someone is a werewolf. “Let’s go, Athena!” Since me and Daniel are Alpha’s, we get to bond with our wolves at an early age, even if we can’t speak to each other yet. We are able to finally speak to them when we find our mates, there are times when our wolf spirit pushes through. That is something very rare but not impossible. All high-ranked members get to bond with their wolf spirit early on, it helps us be one with them. I was running behind Ash at full speed, there was a rogue attack at the border. Dad had us training the moment we could walk, even though I wasn’t going to be the Alpha, dad made me train like it. The warriors were fighting off the rouges when we got there. I didn’t hesitate before grabbing one and ripping his throat out. A vicious growl came from behind me. I turned to see a she-wolf baring her teeth with her ears pressed against her head. Come at me b***h. I smirked at my thoughts and lunged at her. Biting her back legs before I ripped open her side, she cried out as I pushed her to the ground. She tried to bite my neck, which only pissed me off more, so I pushed my paw into her throat and dug my claws in, slowly tearing her open. I looked around for Ash, he was fighting off two grey wolves. I ran towards them, slamming one into a big pine tree. The sound of his bones crushing against the tree's trunk echoed throughout the forest. Something caught my attention about this wolf. Unlike the others, he had foam around his mouth. I stepped back to see him collapse on the dirt floor, his body shaking aggressively. He looked at me with a sad whimper, almost asking me for help. He stretched out his paw towards me, my eyes going to his claws, which had silver in them. Holy s**t. I snapped my head to see the rogue Ash was fighting sink his teeth into his rib cage. My heart started beating uncontrollably as I saw my brother shift into human form. I lunged at the rogue and slammed into him as hard as I could. I bared my teeth and bit down on his leg, the sound of broken bone echoed into the night. He howled in pain as I slowly slashed his belly open, making him look like a science experiment. I ran to Daniel, who was in a fetal position holding his side. His mouth was beginning to foam like the rogue I killed. I picked up his huge body and held him as carefully as I could. “DOC IT’S DANIEL PLEASE BE READY!” I mindlinked, holding back my tears. I ran to the pack hospital as fast as I could, which wasn’t easy since Daniel was 6’3, like our father, and I was only 5’7. The warriors ran behind me and tried to mindlink multiple times, but I cut the connection, trying to concentrate on getting Daniel there safely. That stupid mutt, something was definitely wrong with him. Maybe he was sick or had an infection. “Ally.. it.. it.. burns..” Daniel’s pained voice came through our mindlink. “I know brother, it’s okay. I’m going to help you, I promise Dan it’ll go away.” I couldn’t hold back my tears anymore, seeing my brother so broken crushed my heart. “Ally.. I love you. You’re.. you’re… you’re going to be.. a great Alpha.” Daniel’s heartbeat was getting weaker and weaker. Another rush of adrenaline kicked in. I made it to the hospital in a couple of minutes. The doctor was outside waiting with his team of nurses. He rushed over and they took Daniel’s body from me. I heard my mother and father running over, my father barking orders for everything to go on lockdown and the borders to be double protected. My mother’s arm’s and scent brought me back from my blank mind. I hadn’t noticed that I was on my knees in front of the hospital doors. I rested my head on her shoulder and let a couple of tears roll down. Danny was going to be okay, he had to be okay. He was supposed to be the Alpha, he was supposed to always take care of me. He’s my big brother, the one to make sure no boy ever plays with me, to threaten to rip their throat out if they hurt me. Daniel was my best friend. My mother helped me up and walked me inside the hospital. My father grabbed my arm, engulfing me in a big hug. “I’m sorry.. I’m sorry.. I’m so sorry.” I sobbed into my father's chest, as he tightened his arms around me. “Honey, you didn’t do anything. This is not your fault baby, you did all you could.” I looked into his eyes and I saw there was no lie behind them. I forced my emotions down and relaxed. I should be worried about Daniel not crying like a child. The doctor had been treating him for about four hours now and he still hasn’t come out. My father left to make some business calls and had just returned when the doctor finally came out. His face looked pale, the doctor's skin color was usually a lovely brown, making his hazel eyes pop. He looked nervous as he walked toward us. We got up and met him halfway. My mother was holding onto my hand for dear life. “Alpha, Luna, Aliyah. I'm terribly sorry but the young Alpha is in a deep coma. The rogue who bit him was infected with wolfsbane, making the rogue extremely violent. It also seems like the rogue had a silver wire in its mouth. He probably caught it in one of our fences. In all honesty, Alpha Daniel is still alive because of Miss Aliyah. We will keep him on life support for now and monitor him.” Doctor Alan said, keeping his eyes cast down, showing his submission and respect for my family. I held my mother upright as her body collapsed. My father came to her side and held her against his chest as she wept like a child. We exchanged a look, all of us standing in complete silence now. We all knew that Daniel wouldn’t survive but we hoped to be proven wrong. “Thank you Alan, I know you’ll do all you can to save him.” My father said before dismissing him. -FLASHBACK ENDS- Hey Aliyah… Aliyah snap out of it. I know this is hard but you have to be strong, your mother needs you right now. Not to mention that Alpha Martin and Alpha Gaz are here.” Saige whispered in my ear. I let her go and smiled at her. She was right. I would be able to grieve when this was over with and the Alpha’s had left. I couldn’t believe they came all this way to show my father their support and loyalty. Alpha Martin flew in from Mexico with his mate, Luna Lucy to be here and Alpha Gaz flew in with his mate, Luna Charlotte, from Greece. Our families had been in business for decades. Mexico had the best cocaine and heroin, while my father provided the best m*******a. Alpha Gaz was the most powerful Alpha in Greece. He was a great ally, to have not to mention, he was great with guns. They walked over to us, both men shaking my father's hand before pulling him in for a manly hug. Which meant that they smacked each other’s backs and let go quickly. The Luna’s hugged my mother. Being mothers themselves, they grieved for my mother's pup. Luna Lucy is a beautiful woman with a curvy body, full lips and brown eyes with short dark brown hair. She came up to me first and engulfed me in a strong hug, radiating her love and support towards me. “I can’t wait to see what you’ll do as an Alpha, be brave corazón. Your brother is resting with the moon goddess now, she will love and protect him.” She whispered in my ear before kissing my cheek and walking away. I gave her a small smile, stunned at what she said, was I really supposed to be the new Alpha now ? I have heard of female Alphas before, but would I be one? I mean sure being a Luna is still an Alpha technically, but she was second to the man. What would my pack say? Better yet, what would my family say ? Everyone knows I’m a fierce fighter, the second best to Daniel and the best amongst all the pack members. Not to brag, but I’m pretty smart as well. I’ve even helped father with a couple of contracts that made us millions. Surly, the elders and my father will give the position to Daniel’s Beta, Max. Max is as loyal as they come, he was Daniel’s best friend. He’s not as strong as me or Daniel, but he sure is one hell of a fighter. Luna Charlotte came to me next. She’s a blond angel. Tall with a slender figure and ocean blue eyes. She placed a tender kiss on my forehead and told me that it will all be okay. Her husband, Alpha Gaz, did the same. I gave them a smile and thanked them for their kind words and for coming all this way. Alpha Gaz was a very handsome man, tall with blond hair and blue eyes. Daniel used to call him and his Luna Barbie and Ken. Alpha Martin asked me to take a walk with him. I looked over at my father for permission. He gave me a small nod. I was nervous to be walking around with the Alpha. He has never done anything to make me question him, but I was not ready for a “things happen for a reason” speech. We walked toward the forest, it seemed like we were on patrol, both of us paying close attention to movements and sounds. “How old are you, Aliyah?” He asked with his eyes still staring at the forest. “I’m 18 sir,” I replied as I followed a bird flying around. “That’s good, it gives you time to prepare yourself. That is if you haven’t already found your mate?” He looked at me while he waited for my response. “No, I haven’t found my mate yet but, I’m confused, what exactly do I have to prepare for?” I asked, looking up. He knew I wasn’t trying to threaten him or disrespect him, so he didn’t mind the eye contact. He took a deep breath, his brown eyes becoming soft as if he was talking with a pup. His dark brown hair was cut short and he had shaved his beard since the last time I saw him. He was a good looking man. I hadn’t seen him display such understanding eyes before. “Since your brother has passed away, that will make you the Alpha now. I understand that it will be new to all of us to have to do business with a woman, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. You’re very smart and a fierce fighting machine, you will be a great leader, but you need to believe that first. I will be around to lend a hand if you were to need it, but I have a feeling you’ll be able to handle everything.” His words left me speechless. “But, wouldn’t Max, my brother's Beta, take over the Alpha position? I mean that’s the whole point of a Beta, right ? For him to lead when the Alpha isn’t around and to protect the pack?” “Usually, yes, but you are still alive and you are a pureblood Alpha. There is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to do this. Your people need a leader and you will be that for them. I’m sure your father will tell you this soon enough and, of course, the elders will have to agree. Just because you are a woman does not mean you can’t be a great Alpha.” He signaled for us to start walking towards our families. Before we were near the rest of them, he turned to look at me dead in the eyes. “I look forward to doing business with you, Alpha Aliyah.”
