CHAPTER 1
Kiara’s POV RING! RING!! RING!!! The alarm clock’s loud ringing filled the entire room, rudely jolting me back into reality from the sweet dream I was having. Ugh! Why’d this thing have to be so damn loud? I groaned in frustration as I tossed around on the bed for a bit, reaching for the pillow to cover my ears with it .RRRRIIIINNGGGG! The pillow seemed to have no effect as the ringing from the clock intensified. I clenched my fist in frustration, then angrily grabbed my pillow and hurled it straight at the clock. The pillow connected, knocking the annoying object to the ground. However, that too did nothing to stop the ringing RING! RING!! RING!!!Ugh. I let out another frustrated groan at my failed attempt. That thing wasn't going to turn off anytime soon. I thought to myself as I begrudgingly forced myself out of bed, reaching for the clock to turn it off with a single tap of a button. My still groggy eyes trailed towards the window, where the rays of the early morning sun seeped through onto my bed… I could already tell today it was going to be a long day… Oh, right, I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Kiara Michaelson. I'm 18 and currently a first year theatre arts major at Ravenwood University, which I had resumed at about a few days ago…. And which I was definitely going to be late for if I kept this up.. . I've spent almost my entire life in Ravenwood. I moved here when I was five years old and have been living with my mom and grandma ever since. To the outside world, I was just a quirky, semi-normal teenage girl. But I had a little secret… One I had never shared with anyone, not even my two closest friends… I was a witch.. Not the creepy looking ones in pointy hats that flew around in brooms. No. an actual witch. I figured it out shortly after my 16th birthday. I accidentally predicted a sudden thunderstorm, and it happened exactly as I said. I thought that might have just been a pure coincidence until I had a dream about levitating moms bowling ball, only to wake up and find it dented in the ceiling!Sooner or later, mom found out about my powers and apparently, I came from a long line of powerful witches. Even my grandma was one. Anyway, back to the present, I dragged myself out of the bathroom, wearing nothing but a towel.. I wasn't sure how much time I spent showing, but getting ready for school took me roughly about 15 minutes or so, I was bad at keeping track of time anyway… .As I reached for the pink hairbrush on my dressing table, to take care of my shoulder-length brown hair with, something else caught my eye…. That pendant right next to it. It was a silver pendant with a wolf claw on it. Apparently, I had forgotten to put it away the night before. What if mom had seen it? That would've been a whole different can of worms… I reached for the pendant, picking it up once again. I was very intrigued by this trinket for two major reasons. One being that it had a strange energy that sort of pulled me towards it The second being that it was the only thing I had to remember my father by… I had very few memories of my father and sure enough, I would've forgotten what he looked like by now if it weren't for family pictures. The ones hidden in moms secret stash that she thought I knew nothing about. Let's just say I was a rather curious child back in the day.But in my defence, mom rarely ever talked about dad. She only ever mentioned him once, saying that he had abandoned us when I was a child and told me never to speak of him again. Even my little mind back then could tell that she was trying so hard to hate the man, but could not bring herself to… Even worse when she eventually found out about his death… I could still remember how her face looked that day. She was trying so hard to conceal her emotions, but her eyes betrayed her. I could tell that she loved my father very deeply even though he abandoned us. I always wondered why he would do a thing like that, though. I also remember that shortly after that, she had tried to get rid of all of his possessions that night, one of which included this very pendant…. I had managed to save this pendant at the last minute though, just as mom had gone in to fetch the gasoline to burn everything else to the ground. And I had managed to keep it hidden all this time though, from both my mom and my grandma. I couldn't explain it, but I felt that there was a lot more to all of this, to my fathers abandonment and supposed death. And you could bet that I sure as hell was not going to let this go… Not until I found closure at least… I let out another sigh as I grabbed the pendant, throwing it down the top drawer of my dressing table as I quickly hurried out of my room, down the stairs to make my way out to the living room… “Bye mom.” My voice trailed as I bolted out the open door before my mother could give me her reply from inside the kitchen. Grandma was very likely still sleeping by now. I shrugged indifferently as I got on my trusty scooter and began riding to school, which was about a 15 minute ride from where I lived .—-------Ravenwood University—-------- I managed to arrive a few minutes before the bell. I quickly parked my scooter to the side and hurried my way into the entrance gate to my department. In my haste, I didn't notice the walkover right in front of me, which caused me to trip over it. "Whoa!" I let out a shriek just as I was about to go down. Well, this was it. I winced, bracing myself for impact just before i hit the grond… But then… I wasn't falling? I opened my eyes in a bit of confusion, then slowly trailed them to the strong hand grabbing me by the waist, which had stopped my fall just before I reached the ground.. I had been saved by someone… “Umm thanks…” I slowly mutter as I scramble to my feet. “It's alright, just watch where you're going next time.” The young man replied, his voice calm but firm as he left me to stand on my feet. As soon as I was able, he walked off without another word. Who was that guy? I wondered as I raised my eyebrow at the young man who had just walked in front of me. I think I had seen his picture before for something. He was the new transf– “Kiki!” That was Lexi’s voice cutting through my train of thought and in no time I felt a pair of arms wrap me in a hug from behind. I could still smell her lavender body wash, which had been her signature scent since middle school. “Lexi. hi.” I said. A little sigh escaped my lips as I tried to wriggle out of her embrace. I loved the girl, but she tended to get up in people's spaces a lot. “That's gonna get you in trouble one day.” Another familiar voice is heard behind us. We both turn around to see Malia walking toward us. Malia was another childhood friend of ours. Although she was the last to join our trio. Meaning that I was much closer to Lexi than I was to her. Regardless, I was equally happy to see both of them. However, the thought of the young man from earlier still lingered on my mind.“Did you guys see that guy?” I asked, being very sure that there was something off about him… “What guy?” Both lexi and malia raised an eyebrow. Their confusion was glaringly obvious. “The one that just helped me up.” I turned around to look, but he was already gone. Huh? I stare at the entrance, confusion beginning to creep into my head as well.. “But he was…” i trailed off. He was standing right there. I was certain of it. it didnt help that the confused looks on my friends' faces were growing even more. “Nevermind…” I slowly mutter, more to myself than to them. Perhaps he had already made his way into class… And from the looks of it, so should we… RING! The bell rang once again, signifying that we were late… well... gotta run......
