Chapter 28 Olivia We’re sitting in Marie’s garden. Deneuve has made the short trek from my house as well, as though she sensed I need her with me tonight. Or maybe she has grown fond of Marie in her own way. It’s a gorgeous evening full of promise of a beautiful summer to come. We’re surrounded by all shades of green and the purple of the wisteria. The air is just the right temperature and the birds sing loudly and freely and I have one last thing to tell Marie, although I’m sure she’s already guessed. “I can’t go with you tomorrow,” I say. “I figured as much.” Marie has her bare feet in my lap.
