Friendship

When Amy was young and living in Crescent Falls Pack:

The air in the office felt stale and suffocating as six people were gathered around a larger table. Two young men were sitting with their heads hanging low while their parents sat beside them looking gloomy and disappointed. 

The alpha tried to release some of the pressure in the room by taking it slow and cautiously, “So Kemper, we understand that you were angry but it’s still not ok to hit Jonas.” 

Kemper sighed and looked up from the desk with a resigned look, he looked at Jonas as he apologized, “I’m sorry I hit you, Jonas, I was just so angry that you didn’t help Amy when she was being beaten.” 

Jonas's head snapped up and he defended himself eagerly, “that’s not what happened, I only saw Clara pull a prank on her. I didn’t know they were about to kick her!” 

He sounded desperate as he tried to convince Kemper that he was innocent. 

Kemper looked disappointed and not happy with his explanation, he sighed before he countered, “I think you should have stopped the bullying right away, it’s not ok to look the other way just because you have a crush on Clara.” 

Jonas huffed and slapped his palm on the table, he was frustrated with Kemper, “I didn’t look the other way because I like Clara, I just didn’t think it was that bad.” 

His voice had a meeker tone as he finished his sentence, he knew it sounded bad. Kemper didn’t answer, he just looked back down to his lap. 

Jonas's father looked at his alpha with regret and concern, “what will happen to Clara and the kids who hurt Amy?” 

The alpha cleared his throat and looked at his beta as he answered in a steady voice, “they all have been suspended for two weeks, it will go on their transcript so all colleges can see that they were involved in a physical altercation.” 

Kemper got furious at his father's choice of words and he spat out like it was venom, “altercation?? They beat up a human!” 

He was seething as he looked at the other people around the table, Jonas didn’t dare to look up from his lap. 

After a few seconds, the luna finally spoke up, “I think we should start the healing process, there is a lot of emotions going around. Kemper! Jonas is your best friend, you guys need to patch this up and move on. Some day he will be your beta.” 

Kemper snorted and folded his arms tight to his chest, Jonas winced at his reaction, he was afraid he had lost his best friend. 

He got some courage to look up and pleaded with Kemper, “please Kemper, I never meant for Amy to get hurt, I was just so frustrated with her. I thought it would not harm her, please try to forgive me.” 

Kemper furrowed his brows, “what do you mean she frustrated you?” 

Jonas blushed and his eyes wandered the room a bit, he looked down to his lap again as he admitted what had caused his ill feelings. “I’m sorry Kemper, I was just so jealous of the relationship you have with Amy, you only want to spend time with her. I mean, I knew you would get a girlfriend some time, I just thought you would treat me the same.” 

Kemper blushed and his eyes widened, he stuttered as he defended himself, “she’s not my girlfriend, I’m…we’re… That’s not how it is! And I do treat you the same.” 

Kemper was flustered as he spoke, and Jonas finally looked at him straight in the eyes. 

Jonas looked pained as he continued the conversation, “no you don’t Kemper, you do all your homework with her, you even train with her. You used to do that with me, you even spend time braiding her hair!” 

He was frustrated and even raised his voice as he mentioned the hair braiding. Kemper’s face got red in an instant, he was hoping that his parents wouldn’t find out about that. Both Jonas and Kemper’s parents had wide eyes as the argument unfolded, they were not aware that there was so much jealousy between them. 

The alpha thought he would intervene and save his son from further embarrassment, he had long thought that Kemper views Amy as more than just a friend. Young love could be very fickle, so he wanted to spare his son from further exposure. It was all harmless anyway. 

“I think it’s best, like luna said, that we move forward. It’s good that you guys are talking about things. I’ve decided that Amy will attend all her classes either with Kemper or Jonas, she wanted to do advanced classes anyway. For the other classes, she is missing she can get a tutor, I think Alexa might be available. I think that’s a fitting punishment for you Jonas.” 

The alpha looked at Jonas as he addressed the consequences for him, “it also would be good for you to have Amy under your wing, it can teach you some things about protecting all our pack members, also the ones you don’t like. And perhaps you get time to bond more with Amy.” 

Jonas nodded, he agreed with his alpha, it was a fitting punishment and he did see how he failed as a beta when he abandoned Amy. 

Then the alpha looked at Kemper with a serious look, “it’s also important for alpha and beta to have a strong bond, together the two of you will be the top protectors of this pack. So from now on, you need to practice with Jonas, and you can go back to helping Jonas with his homework. Alexa can move between helping Jonas and Amy.” 

Jonas's parents nodded and Kemper nodded reluctantly as well, he did see finally how he had left Jonas hanging by himself over the last year. He was embarrassed by his behavior, it wasn’t how he wanted to be for his best friend. Jonas also realized that he would have less tutor time with boring Alexa, so he started to grin a little bit. 

Jonas's mom noticed it and called him out on it, “why are you smiling Jonas?” 

His smile fell immediately and he saved himself with a very believable white lie, “I’m just happy that Kemper and I are patching things up. I was so afraid that I had ruined our friendship.” 

Kemper looked up at Jonas and smiled at him, “I’m sorry Jonas, I guess I have been a bad friend lately. I’ll do as dad said and be a better friend to you.” 

Everyone sighed in relief, finally, the boys were on the right track.
