Chapter 9
Tala Hill
“If you have something to say, can you please say it now?” I snapped, irritated to be with them in the same room.
If looks were deadly, they would have definitely dropped dead in front of me. We are all in the living room of the hotel suite. I was sitting two chairs next to Maya, in front of us were four sweaty men. Earlier, I was annoyed at the one with the gray hair, now I was even more angry with the man who had been smiling at me. I wanted to whack the s**t out of him. His smiles irritated me. The one with black hair and dark eyes. I hate him. He put antimagic on me without my knowledge and I hated it. I was so annoyed looking at him.
“Goddamn.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Can you please stop smiling at me? You're irritating,” I added. The more I stated that I hated his smile, the more he smirks at me like an i***t.
“Just relax,” he said, putting his feet on the center table like an asshole. Why would someone do that? “Let me introduce ourselves first. The one at the end is Ridge,” he said, pointing at the gray-haired man who did not even turn in our direction. He looked so bored to be part of their little chitchat. “The one next to him is Tyron,” he added, referring to the man with blue hair who only gave us a nod. A noncommittal nod.
“I'm Chester.” The chestnut brown haired man introduced himself. He looked at Maya and excitedly waved at her, then turned to me and gave me a formal bow, which only made my sister giggle.
I looked at Maya in disbelief which she only returned with a smile.
“And I'm Shaun Smith.”
Finally, the black haired guy introduces himself accompanied by a sweet smile.
Shaun Smith. I sighed. It suits him. His stares met mine. I was secretly angry with myself.
What is wrong with you, Tala? This is not the right time to think of him as cute.
“What? No last names?” I asked sarcastically.
“We don't need last names,” Shaun answered. “So, it's your turn. Tell us your name?” he asked.
I frowned at this question. “What? You don’t even know our names and yet you planned to kidnap my sister? Are you even serious? So what was that, Just a random act of k********g? Because if it is, then I suggest you just find someone else who will be abducted,” I suggested.
“God! You are so noisy,” Ridge suddenly said. Irritated at my voice. “Just call me when it's over,” he added. Ridge stood up and went out of a hotel suite.
Shaun looked at us. “It’s not random. We picked her because of her scent.” Tyron said. His eyes are on his laptop.
”My scent?” Maya asked in surprise. “W-Hwat do you mean?” she whispered.
“You smell like night blooming flowers,” said Chester, who was about to approach Maya but immediately stopped what he was about to do when I gave him an angry look.
“What does that mean?” I asked. I reached out Maya's hand. I don't want to lose her. What if they’ll jump out of this hotel and leave me behind?
“Tell us your names and we will explain it,” said Shaun, who has the right to bargain with us.
I had no intention of answering him but Maya was quick to speak. “I am Mayari Hill and she's Tala Hill.” I raised my brows at her.
“What are you doing?” I asked her. “What if they are here to steal our information and sell it?”
Maya just shook her head. “It's fine.”
“Mayari.” Shaun nodded before
turning at me. He looked me straight in the eyes. “Tala.”
My heart skipped a beat. Butterflies suddenly tickled my insides. His voice. It felt different. Why does it feel like music in my ears?
I suddenly felt horrified as he mentioned my name. He even grinned at me, that wolfish grin as if he was thinking of doing something ‘playful’ to me in his head.
“Your name is too lame,” Tyron said.
“I think your names are beautiful!” Chester commented as if it would help.
Maya laughed. “You can call me Maya, and you can call her Tala.”
I turned to Maya and glared at her. “Don't be too friendly with them, Maya. Maybe you've forgotten what those people did to us. We are here against our will. And look, they even put an antimagic item on me,” I reminded her in Italian so that they won’t understand what I’m saying.
“I think they really did not intend to hurt me, or you, and what happened in the building was just an accident,” Maya answered back. “And besides, they are kind of funny,” she added.
I rolled my eyes at her. What is she even thinking? Funny? What the hell.
“But it still won't change the fact that they tried to kidnap you!” I snapped in annoyance.
“Tala, let’s just hear them out, please? Aren’t you interested in their explanation? I, for one, am really curious,” Maya said in a stern voice. Damn, this lady is serious.
I almost groaned. “Fine,” I surrendered. I said nothing because the truth is, I also wanted to know what the man said that they picked her because of her scent.
“So, is your mini conference over?” Shaun asked to get our attention.
I looked at him, there was amusement in his black eyes which only annoyed me even more. “You already know what our name is, so explain what you have to explain,” I commanded. “I don’t want to be part of this,” I whispered as I glared at Maya’s foot.
Shaun leaned back in his seat. “We came to this place to look for something. We have no idea what it looks like, whether it is a woman or a man, or what kind of creature it is. We only know one thing, that he or she has the scent of night-blooming flowers. That scent led us to you, Maya,” he said after a long pause.
“So you are saying that Maya has this . . . scent?” I asked doubtfully.
“Undoubtedly,” he answered while nodding his head.
Maya looked at me in horror. “I never knew I had that kind of smell,” she said while sniffing herself. “I took a bath before . . . you take us,” she said, lowering her voice.
“Only we can smell it,” Tyron replied in amusement. “And it smells really good,” he added.
My eyebrows met when Tyron said that. I doubted more and more what kind of creatures they really are. “Why? Why are you the only ones who can smell it? What are you people?” I asked irritably. I wanted to whack the face of the guy smiling at me.
“What do you think?” Shaun asked.
I became annoyed. “I don't have time to joke around. If you don’t want to tell us who you really are, fine. I suggest you just let us go, so end this ridiculous argument with you.”
Chester scoffed. “You are free to go actually,” he said lazily. “Your sister is all we need.”
I violently turned my gaze to Chester and glared at him. “And you really think I’m going to leave my sister in your hands?” I snapped. “You're delusionals.”
“Then stop complaining,” Chester said.
I stood up and was about to approach Chester when Shaun got ahead of me. He held my shoulders and he effortlessly lifted me.
I screamed in horror. “Wait—What are you doing? Put me down!” I demanded while I struggled to flee from his grasp.
But instead of following my words, Shaun just turned to Maya whose eyes widened because of what he did. “I’ll borrow your sister first. Do not worry, I won’t do anything bad to her. I'll just help her cool down.”
Shaun approached the open window while still carrying me. Then he put one foot there.
“Whatever you're thinking of doing, stop it right now,” I threatened. I was getting an idea of what Shaun was planning. “Put me down, now!” I demanded.
“No way,” he said with a wolfish grin plastered on his face. And then, he jumped out the window. He freaking jumped!
I screamed in horror as I held tightly on his neck as if my life depended on him.
