Nicholas tightened hold of his gun as the figure stepped into the faint moonlight. The man was covered by a black hood, and he couldn't see his face yet; his posture seemed calm and unthreatening.
“ Don't you dare move,” Nicholas growled.
“Easy man, I'm not here to fight,” The man said slowly, raising his hands.
Luke stepped out of the cabin, his gun in hand pointing at the man. “ You have ten seconds to explain what you are doing here unless I pull the trigger”
The man slowly pulled down his hood revealing his handsome face and piercing green eyes. He resembled more of a hunter than a threat.
“Name's Mason; I own this Cabin.” The man stared at them, confused. Luke looked a bit surprised, and Nicholas glanced at Luke, expecting an explanation, although he didn't lower his aim at Mason.
“ No offense, man, but I thought you were dead a long time ago; I haven't seen you since,” Luke said after recovering from his surprise.
“ It's okay; I didn't want anyone to know I was still alive either; now, I would pretty much like to enter my home,” he said, pointing to Nicholas's gun, which was still aimed at him.
“It's cool, man.” Luke tapped Nicholas’s shoulder, lowering his weapon.
“How do you know Luke?” Nicholas asked, obviously still not trusting him.
“We met in a bar a few years back, I was involved in a deadly bar fight and he practically saved my life, I owe him big time”
“ It's cool, man,” Luke repeated, and this time, Nicholas lowered his gun.
They headed back to the cabin.
Mason gave them a questioning look when he saw Alison.
“What's happening, what are you running from”
“How do you know we're running from something”
“ I can tell” Mason shrugged “ I have food, medicine, and some supplies but I'm not sure it'll last”
“ We won't be staying long,” Nicholas answered. It's not that he didn't want to stay here, he didn't know Mason that well and he didn't know if he could trust him. Why was he showing too much concern?
“Do you have anywhere better to go?” Luke asked
“I'm sure there's somewhere that’s probably safer, it won't take long before they'll find us here”
“Ok, come over. I want to talk to you,” Luke gestured him closer. They went to the pathway close to the room where they could see Alison and Mason from where they were.
“ I think it'll be better if we split ways, it'll be easier to hide, I helped you so I'm clearly under Adrian’s hit list too and I might be a liability, I could help you fight some guys on your trail”
“ Ok if that's what you want besides you'll only slow me down and I wasn't planning on staying with you anyway”
“Liarr, you know you'll miss me,” Luke pouted, and Nicholas gave him a disgusted stare in return.
“So when are you leaving”
“Now”
“Now,” he repeated.
“It wouldn't take long for Adrian to find out this location, I don't want to get involved much”
“Ok then, I guess I'll see you later then”
“ You too, just don't die”
“I won't”
“Better”
They headed back to the room and Luke said his goodbye to the others.
“Thanks, man, don't get yourself killed,” Nicholas said to Luke just as he left to which he smiled at.
The house was left with Alison, Mason, and Nicholas. By this time, Alison had already eaten; she'd been quiet this whole time, and although she was curious about the new face in the midst, she didn't say anything.
“Is there any safe place you know?” Nicholas asked Mason.
“ My cabin has a hidden underground, it'll be a lot safer there compared to here”
“Let's see”
Mason led both of them to the underground place. It was a hidden pathway from the floor of the room to the underground place. Alison took her belongings and followed them closely.
The underground room was a bit dirty as if it hadn't been cleaned for some time.
“It isn't much, but it'll keep you hidden,” he said to Nicholas, who was busy scanning the environment. For some reason, Nicholas couldn't help but feel that something was off.
Hours later, they settled, and Nicholas moved around inspecting the environment, his sharp eyes scanning for anything that seemed out of place.
That's when he saw it.
A small surveillance camera was in the corner of the room. It was so small that it was nearly invisible.
His blood ran cold.
“Mason” he let out a low growl.
“Mason” he barked this time, scaring Alison in the process. “What happened” Mason appeared soon after, his face neutral.
Nicholas pointed at the camera. “ What's that, Mason? Care to explain this?” Mason kept silent, and then he smirked.
“You are sharper than I thought”
“You are working for Adrian” Alison gasped, suddenly afraid.
“Smart girl” he mocked her. “Adrian pays well for information,” he laughed; his laugh was anything but pleasant.
Nicholas lunged at him slamming him to the wall. “I'm afraid you won't live long to get your money”
“Kill me, and Adrian's men would be here in seconds; this place is wired the second I go down; they'll come; you can't get rid of me,” he smiled devilishly.
Nicholas's mind raced; as long this psycho was still alive and with them, Adrian would find them, and if he killed him, Adrian would still find them. After some thought, he struck him, leaving him unconscious.
“ We need to leave before he wakes up and we need to leave fast”
