The car was quiet, the only sounds were tiny snores from Alison. She fell asleep immediately after she was brought in, totally exhausted by the whole new experience. Luke and Nicholas remained silent, neither of them saying anything, although it was pretty obvious they had a lot to say to each other, especially Luke.
“So are you not going to tell me anything or do I have to get the information from you myself, What's up with the girl, why not give her to Adrian and make things easier for yourself, he'll let you off this once since you guys have history,” Luke said not looking at him at all.
Nicholas didn't answer but Luke could feel his glare on him.
“Is it because she reminds you of her?” This time, Luke turned to look at him.
“Eyes on the road, man,” Nick warned, not answering his question.
“That must be it, Right? That must be it,” Luke said but more to himself like a confirmation.
“ Be careful man, I'm not in support through”
"I didn't ask for your support” Nicholas finally answered.
“You're so mean, Adrian ain't human you know that, don't get caught and it's still not too late to hand her over but do whatever you think it's right, man”
After what felt like hours, Luke finally pulled the SUV off the road and onto a dirt path that led to an old cabin that was hidden deep in the woods.
“This place belongs to a guy I know,” Luke explained as he parked. “This place is barely known. We can lay low here for a while.”
Nicholas carried Alison, who was still asleep, out of the car and into the cabin. The interior looked spaced and clean, with enough supplies to last them a few days.
He dropped her on a couch nearby.
“So what are you going to do, Nick, you know you can't hide forever? This isn't like you; she is not Amelia,” Luke said, his expression now serious.
“Don't you dare say her name” Nicholas said, his tone deadly now.
“We’ll need to plan our next move carefully. Adrian’s men might not know where we are, but it won’t take them long to eventually figure out we’re still alive.” Luke continued, ignoring what he said.
“It's my mess; I'll fix it,” Nicholas said, staring deep into Luke's eyes.
Luke chuckled “ I was only sharing my concern, no need to be serious, geez I can't even share my concerns”
“ I don't need it” Nicholas answered flatly.
“You're so boring.” Luke pointed his tongue to Nicholas in a childish manner, to which Nicholas rolled his eyes.
From the couch, Alison started showing signs of waking up. She quietly sat up, slowly observing the environment. She was a bit confused wondering how they got here. The two men watched her with curiosity.
At that moment Alison's stomach grumbled loudly. Alison felt embarrassed. Despite her situation and knowing the fact that these two men were really dangerous, she couldn't deny the fact that they were insanely hot and attractive. The entire event has been filled with running and fighting, she hasn't had time for herself.
“I'll go get something for us to eat,” Luke said before disappearing and leaving her with Nicholas.
An awkward silence fell between them. There were so many things to ask. Curiosity filled her mind, formulating so many questions. She heard some of his discussions with Luke while they thought she was asleep. Who was Amelia, she wondered. It wasn't in her place to ask either.
Nicholas was clearly avoiding her, too; he didn't say anything to her either.
“I made a sandwich. Apparently, there are food supplies.” Luke headed into the room with a plate filled with sandwiches.
As they settled down to eat, Nicholas heard a soft noise outside. He stiffened and let his hand go to his gun. Luke saw, and went for his weapon, too.
“Did you hear that?” Alison whispered, the fear creeping back into her voice.
Nicholas raised a hand to shush her. He walked to the doorway, every one of his senses on high alert.
The sound came again — quiet, careful footsteps approaching the cabin.
“Stay here,” Nicholas directed, his voice low and dangerous.
As he stepped outside, gun in hand, he came
face-to-face with a figure approaching from the shadows.
