Chapter 13

864 Words
Alison felt movements, she felt she was moving. She couldn't quite understand. Alison woke up in Nicholas’s arms confused. He was walking extremely fast. She didn't know where he was taking them. She was too sleepy to ask anyway. He stopped and opened something behind him. The next thing she knew, she was dumped like a sack of potatoes in the backseat of a car. Alison quickly sat up. She watched Nicholas as he entered the car and quickly zoomed off. She wanted to ask him where he got the car but the broken windows was definitely a sign she shouldn't ask. She wasn't used to fast rides and Nicholas was definitely driving too fast. Fast was an understatement but she couldn't bring herself to say anything. He still thought she was sleeping though. “Dammit,” she heard him mutter under his breath, angrily hitting the horn. “What happened,” she asked, filled with curiosity. He ignored but she was sure he heard her. She sat up well and looked out the almost completely broken windows. It was still dark but she could see some men at some checkpoint checking cars and the drivers. She was now fully awake. All signs of sleep disappeared instantly. “What the heck, couldn't they just be free for once” She mentally slammed her hands on her forehead. The car suddenly moved backward. “Where are you going” she asked but he ignored her again. “s**t, they've caught on” Nicholas cursed. Alison looked out of the cars, and she saw three cars that were following them. “ No, no, no….not again” she whispered repeatedly. Nicholas quickly reversed the car but the men were hot on their chase. He brought his gun and shot a car in the tire. “Dang it” He groaned out of annoyance. He was out of bullets. He needed out of his trails now. He stepped on the gas and zoomed off. He was always a fast rider, and it wasn't his first time being in a car chase. Once they were out of sight, he quickly parked the car in a place he was sure was hidden. He had to be extra careful since he was completely out of ammo. He waited till the cars eventually sped off. He waited for some time before they eventually left. This time, he followed a dirt road. He couldn't risk going through the main road again. Alison was glad they were out of danger for now. She silently hoped they wouldn't get discovered again. She glanced at Nicholas. His eyes were fixed on the road, his face totally emotionless which was no surprise to her at all. He seemed like an expert at this. Being in a car chase was always part of her bucket list but she never expected it to come so early, at least not like this. They continued to ride in silence, Nicholas skillfully driving through the corners. She watched the trees as they rode till she eventually fell asleep again. They were almost close; Nicholas was certain they were going to get there. Nicholas was a little nervous although he was an expert at hiding it. He didn't want to go there but he had no choice anymore. It's been years since he has been there, it was the safe place he only knew, not even Luke had been there. He has so many memories there he wishes he would forget. He felt his phone buzz interrupting his thoughts. He picked it up. It was a text from Adrian “ You can't hide from me forever,” It said He switched off his phone instantly. He wasn't afraid of Adrian, not in the slightest, but he was afraid of Alison. He knew what Adrian was capable of. He didn't want Adrian to meet Alison. History might end up revealing itself again. Nicholas was in a spiral of thoughts as he approached the place he had been avoiding for years. He should be glad; at least they were safe for some time, but old memories kept resurfacing. He let out a yawn, now realizing how tired he was. He looked back for the first time to see Alison sleeping. He watched her as she slept slowly remembering what Luke said. He could still kill her if he wanted but he has gone so deep to back out now. At that moment, She opened her eyes and caught him staring at her. He didn't notice before, but she had very beautiful hazel eyes. “Get out of the car, we’re here,” he said sharply before getting out of the car himself. Alison followed him after him and they both entered the house. It looked more like a vacation home. The place was a little bit huge but it seemed comfortable. It looked somehow empty like it hadn't been visited in years. “This is your room.” Nicholas pointed a door at the end of a pathway before disappearing, leaving her there. She could already feel leaving with him was going to be tough but she was happy that they were at least safe.
