CHAPTER 1:EIGHT YEARS
The city lights glittered outside the large glass windows of the fancy restaurant, illuminating the night with a beautiful glow.
Soft music played in the background as couples chatted around them.
At a table near the window sat Elena Hart and Adrian Blake.
Tonight was special.
It was their eighth anniversary.
Eight years together.
Elena looked around the restaurant before turning her attention back to Adrian.
“I… really can't believe it's been eight years since we've been together,” she said softly. “It feels like a dream.”
Adrian smiled.
“Eight years,” he repeated. “And somehow, you still get surprised every time our anniversary comes around.”
Elena laughed.
“Because every year feels different.”
“Different how?”
She thought for a moment.
“I don't know. I guess… we've grown together.”
Adrian reached across the table and took her hand.
“We have.”
Elena looked down at their hands and smiled.
They had been through so much together.
Arguments.
Misunderstandings.
Difficult days.
Happy days.
Yet somehow, they always found their way back to each other.
Eight years wasn't a short time.
It was almost a lifetime of memories.
Adrian stared at Elena for a long moment, his expression softening.
“I… I'll always love you.”
Elena looked into his eyes.
“No matter what… you're mine.”
She laughed softly.
“Guess I'm lucky to have your ring.”
She lifted her hand slightly, admiring the ring on her finger.
Adrian smiled.
“You've been wearing that for years.”
“And I'm still not tired of it.”
“Good.”
Elena raised her glass.
“Cheers… to more happiness, more years, more anniversaries, and forever.”
Adrian raised his glass.
“To forever.”
Their glasses clinked.
They both smiled.
For a moment, Elena simply watched him.
There was something comforting about Adrian.
After eight years, she knew his habits.
She knew how he took his coffee.
She knew the look he gave whenever he was pretending not to be annoyed.
She knew when he was tired, even when he insisted he wasn't.
And she knew the small smile that appeared whenever he looked at her.
She believed she knew him completely.
Adrian leaned back in his chair.
“So…”
“So?”
“What do you want for our ninth anniversary?”
Elena laughed.
“You're already planning next year?”
“Of course.”
“Hmm…”
She pretended to think.
“I want a vacation.”
“Where?”
“Somewhere quiet.”
“Just the two of us?”
“Obviously.”
Adrian smiled.
“Then it's a promise.”
Elena nodded.
“A promise.”
He reached for her hand again.
“You know I love you, right?”
She smiled.
“I know.”
He gently pulled her closer.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then Adrian leaned down and kissed her softly.
It was brief, tender, and familiar, the kind of kiss that made eight years together feel like they had only just begun.
When they pulled apart, Elena rested her forehead against his.
“Eight years,” she whispered.
“And hopefully many more,” Adrian replied.
Elena smiled.
She had no reason to doubt him.
Not tonight.
Not when everything felt so perfect.
She squeezed his hand.
“Promise me something.”
“Anything.”
“Don't ever become a stranger to me.”
Adrian's smile faded for the briefest moment.
Then he looked directly into her eyes.
“I won't.”
Elena smiled again, believing every word.
Outside the restaurant, the city continued glowing beneath the night sky.
And neither of them knew that this anniversary would become one of the memories Elena would hold onto for years to come.
