Dashiell
Everything was perfect. A woman with a clean past except for the debts.
As soon as she signed the contract, the first thing I did was to clear up her debts.
As I had expected, William Everest believed that Ines was Fiona. Thankfully, she didn't ruin things with her clumsiness since she was finding it hard to fit into Fiona’s character.
Fiona was bold and she always had this aura around her that depicted confidence but with Ines, the latter was the case.
Just how she almost spilled coffee on Williams made me squeeze my eyes shut and how she almost addressed herself as Ines.
Thankfully, William didn't say anything about it since I told him that she was found living with an old couple in the countryside and she lost her memory.
Somehow, he bought my words and promised to repay me.
But wait for a second, where was my best friend, the one whom I considered to be my brother? How come I wasn't able to reach him?
Jolting me out of my reverie, Ines' words filled my ear as I darted my eyes to her. “What?”
“You seem to be lost in your thoughts…”
I sighed. “You shouldn't worry about me but instead, you should be more bothered about fitting into your role as Fiona. What you did earlier should never happen again”
She exhaled sharply. “How many times would you chastise me? Dashiell?”
I glanced at her, rolling my sleeves up. “My Grandfather would be attending the dinner that was put in place to celebrate your return. You can make no mistakes, Ines because if you mess things up, not only would you ruin everything but you would have to repay your debt!”
She looked at me, alarmed. “You are so heartless, Dashiell”
“Mr Dashiell,” I emphasized.
“You are only allowed to call me by name when necessary and after I get successful with the plans of getting us married”
Ines stared at me in disbelief before she rolled her eyes to the back. “This too would surely pass”
“It would. I don't want to be stuck in a marriage with you”
“Neither do I want to!” She retorted.
Amidst the little argument that arose between the two of us, a call from Candace came on but before I could answer the call, a car drove into the compound of Everest.
It was my grandfather’s car.
“Shitt” I muttered under my breath, glancing behind me in a bid to call Ines just to find out that she was gone.
Wait, where the hell was she? I thought that I had warned her about ruining things. How could she just wander off?
Muttering through gritted teeth, as I approached grandfather, a wavering smile slipped on my face.
“Grandfather” I stood before him, lowering my head in reverence for him.
He cleared his throat and I raised my head as he stared at me suspiciously. “You are here and Williams invited me over for dinner, that could mean only one thing! You are up to something…..”
I interrupted. “Why not come inside grandfather”
“You are acting like it is your house. You still haven't impressed me, Dashiell, Theo is up his game but you, I have nothing to say”
I pursed my lips slightly before a smile crossed my face because very soon, he was going to bite back those words.
However, one thing I couldn't comprehend was how Theo happened to creep his way through his grandfather’s heart. He had always been a troublemaker, always getting involved in fights, swindling money and he almost made Grandfather’s company go bankrupt!
As if my grandfather knew the thoughts that were going through my mind, he stopped in his tracks, turning to look at me. “Theo is your older brother and even if you have played a good figure in his life and the company's, still accord him with the respect that he deserves”
“One day he is going to take over and he needs you by his side”
My heart sank into my stomach because of those hurtful words and these were one of the major reasons why I needed to get the land from my grandfather!
With William’s persuasion, I was sure that he would give me that land!
“Why can't I rule too?”
“Because you are the younger brother and right now, Theo is proving that he is more capable than you if given the chance”
Resisting the urge to explode in anger, I forced out a smile. “Mr Williams awaits you”
As soon as he left, the smile on my face vanished, putting a call through Ines.
Her voice came on and before she could even utter a word, I yelled at her. “Where the hell are you at?”
Taking me by surprise, she fired back at me. “I am inside the house not ruining things you dirtbag! While you kept on blabbing earlier, Mr Williams was at the balcony staring at us”
“I had to meet him to clear up any misconceptions about us getting into a fight”
I was at a total loss for words to say. “I hope you are not saying all of this around the maids” I finally managed to say.
“Of course not! I am in Fiona’s room”
I sighed. “Alright, come down for dinner now”
“Yes, sure. I was about to leave!” She hung up the call.

The dumbfounded expression on my grandfather’s face delighted me as he stared at Ines and most importantly, when he discovered that I was the one who found Ines and brought her back.
With his mouth slightly agape, he downed his glass of water. “This is unbelievable!”
Mr Williams guffawed. “I told you that my Fiona was alive. I told you that she would come back to me” He reached his hands for Ines’s hands, tapping it gently.
He continued. “Don't you feel like Dashiell deserves a reward? Even the secret agents couldn't find her but yet he did”
Grandfather stared intently at me like he was trying to read through me. “Yeah……..” His words trailed off.
It took every part of my being to control the excitement building inside of me. Everything was going as planned and the announcement of the marriage between Ines and I would fuel things.
“I would like to announce that Fiona and I would…..”
All of a sudden, a certain voice that triggered my senses filled my head. Turning slowly to look at him, I could see the expression of shock on his face as he rubbed his hands on his eyes.
“Fiona!” His voice was barely above a whisper while Ines squirmed, turning to look at me with eyes pleading to know what was wrong.
I nodded subtly at her.
“You are dead!” he muttered.
Williams clambered up, pointing at him. “She is alive! Don't you ever associate my daughter with the dead”
I loved the clueless expression on his face. I wanted to make a portrait of his face and hang it up on my wall just to stare at his pathetic self.
However in that moment, another voice kind of took me aback as his voice echoed through the whole place.
“This mansion is huge as f**k. I can't believe that you let me tag along. So you are telling me that Dashiell is here? How come I haven't been able to reach him…..”
He soon appeared in the dining room and when my eyes met his, he gasped, pointing an accusing finger at me. “I hate you so much brother and I miss you at the same time”
A bright smile formed on my face as he opened his arm wide at the same time, bowing at everyone until his gaze landed on Ines.
He first averted his gaze before turning his gaze back to her swiftly.
I glanced at Ines, seeing the shocked look on her face as she fiddled with her fingers.
Her eyes held anger and at the same time, it held fear.
“What are you doing here?”
Wait for a second. Who was he referring to?
Lucas gasped. “Theo, this was the b***h that I was talking about. The b***h who threw me out of her house just to go around philandering with other men!”
I rose to my feet. “You are mistaken, this is Fiona. I know you don't know her but you are mistaken…..”
Lucas scoffed, running his hands through his hair. “This b***h is Ines, my ex-girlfriend, and I have the evidence to prove it!”
