Ines P.O.V
Fear gnawed at me, causing the hair on my skin to stand on to the very end.
Was it the fear of the unknown or was it the fear of what was happening before my very eyes?
I raised my head slightly, locking eyes with the same man who had drawn a sword into my heart. The same man who watched me bleed, the same man who was the reason why I bled.
The bastard who was responsible for me being here!
Lucas, my ex-boyfriend!
Raising my head slightly, my eyes met with Lucas, the same eyes that I would always drown in. The same eyes that looked at me that night and held no single remorse.
Marshaling the last bit of strength that I had inside of me, I glanced at Dashiell, and his face was devoid of any emotion, even though his eyes said otherwise—Anger.
Something needed to be done!
I had come a long way for me to allow a narcissist like Lucas to ruin this for me!
I needed to fix this!
I needed to destroy Lucas the same way that he did!
I needed to turn the tables against him somehow but what do I do? How do I do it?
Lucas reiterated. “I have all the pieces of evidence to prove my claim, don’t worry, I will save you from Ines! I will save you from her cunningness”
Dashiell stood up to his feet abruptly, muttering under his breath. “I think that there is a misunderstanding somewhere. You are mistaken about her, this is Fiona. You can’t just do this here, we should probably talk outside….” Dashiell kicked the chair backwards and he had hardly taken a single step when a voice caused him to stop midway.
“Are you trying to hide something, Brother Dashiell? I mean, doesn’t it seem weird that you just came in here with someone who is posing as Fiona? Why not allow him to show us the evidence that she isn’t Fiona”
I watched as Dashiell’s hands squeezed into folds as he glared furiously at the man who had spoken.
Wait for a second, they were brothers?
As in brothers?
It didn’t seem like they were! Moreover, it seemed like they were enemies who couldn’t wait to drive their swords into each other’s chest.
The tension was palpable as the two brothers glared at each other.
Dashiell finally spoke. “Theo…..” His words trailed.
“Why does it feel like you are praying so hard for it not to be Ines? You don’t want her to come back home? Are you scared of something” He scoffed and the tension between them caused shivers to run down my spine.
I swallowed and before Theo could retort, Lucas cut in. “Don’t tell me that you two are going to fight because of a woman, not only a woman but a scam!”
I gulped, clenching my dress and somehow, I managed to catch sight of Mr Everest.
While the whole commotion went on, he had his eyes fixed on me! Eyes begging for me to be Fiona.
He must have loved her!
Although a pang of guilt seized my soul, I wanted to make him happy, the urge to fill the void that Fiona had left took over me!
I managed to force out a smile.
“Fiona is strong, Fiona is confident, Fiona is brave, she isn’t timid! She crushes people who pass their boundaries underneath my feet! She isn’t like you Ines, she is a female Lioness and you have to act like her” Dashiell’s voice flashed through my head.
I released my clenched fingers, reaching my hands for the glass cup of wine before me and taking a sip.
“I am Fiona” I muttered underneath my breath.
Now that I thought about it, being Fiona would allow me to deal with Lucas for everything that he had done.
For cheating on me and most importantly, for using me all along.
I mustered the last bit of courage that I had inside of me and crossed my legs, leaning forward and dropping my chin on my palm.
Staring right into his eyes, I said with a definite tone. “Why are you hesitating to show us the evidence? I am really curious as to who this Ines is”
Lucas scoffed, pointing his fingers at me accusingly as he screamed at the top of his lungs. “The audacity of this b***h! The audacity!”
Dashiell exchanged glances with me and somehow, I couldn’t read the expression on his face but what I wanted him to know was that I would handle the situation more than he had expected.
Slowly, something hit me and in that moment, I wondered how I never thought about that!
Who was Lucas to this family? Because of the way things were going, they all seemed like they had a close relationship.
But that wasn’t what mattered the most at the moment, what mattered the most to me was making sure Lucas got kicked out of here before he could ruin things for me.
“I wouldn’t repeat myself, show us the evidence?”
Lucas was taken aback as he stared at me and in that moment, I knew that his mind was starting to swirl with confusion.
He must have been shocked by my boldness.
I took the full weight of his gaze, staring at him with eyes that spoke volumes. “Where is the evidence? Mr…..who the hell are you again?”
He scoffed. “You are acting like you don’t know me? You are the same wench who was so shameless to have gone down on her knees to propose to me”
I almost rolled my eyes, darting my eyes to Dashiell. “Who is this uncouth man”
Dashiell’s eyelashes fluttered as he cleared his throat. “My best friend”
I froze.
Lucas had a best friend?
Wait, what? What the heck was even happening?
How come I never knew? As much as I could remember, Lucas never told me about him being best friends with anyone.
Lucas made me feel like I was the only one in his life.
Wasn’t it ironic how I planned on getting married to his best friend? I would make sure that I use everyone and everything against him!
“Best-friend?” I scoffed.
“I think that you know now…..”
Lucas cut in. “Now, you are done with putting on a facade”
I squeezed my eyes shut, placing a hand on my forehead like I had felt a sharp pain in my head.
William Everest and Dashiell rushed towards me and Lucas remarked.
“She is just putting on a show….”
Yes! He was right, I was putting on a show that would ruin him.
My eyes soon flicked open and a disgruntled groan left my lips. “I think that I have seen you before…..”
William Everest’s chest heaved up and down. “Can you remember something?”
I nodded, groaning. “I think that I have seen this man before”
Lucas laughed. “Now you are coming out of your shell,”
I forced tears out of my eyes, clinging to my grandfather. “Grandfather, I think that I can remember him”
“Tell me what you can see?”
I sobbed. “Grandfather, while I lost my memories, I was attacked by some robbers at night and he looks like the one who had done it. I was stabbed in the stomach”
My grandfather's hand left my shoulders as he exclaimed. “What!”
I nodded, standing up, rolling my shirt up, pointing to the scar. “He is the one who stabbed me. A dangerous man like him should be sent to prison, don’t you think so?”
