Lucas was soon arrested and even though I had to act like I was happy with what Ines just did, it took a lot of strength inside of me for me not to explode in anger.
I was so mad at Ines! I was pissed off by the fact that she hid the truth about her past relationship from me. She even dared to tell me that she had no ex!
As much as I was pissed with her, I was also annoyed with myself! The fact that I didn't dig into her past relationships, if only I had done that then I wouldn't find myself in the damned mess that I found myself in right now.
Theo glared at me. "You are such a horrible friend! You are picking a woman over your friend?....." I am so disappointed in you. Theo spat as he barged out of the room angrily, leaving only Ines and me in the dining room.
As anger coursed through my veins, I glanced at Ines whose eyelashes kept fluttering.
If it weren't for the fact that Mr Everest could be keeping eyes on us, I would have snapped at her.
I squeezed my shut before flicking it open instantly as I placed my hands on hers. She almost flinched before she darted her eyes toward me and muttered under her breath.
"I am sorry for everything that happened?"
I patted the back of her palm, leaning forward as I whispered in her ears. "You are so dead because this time, I will kill you with my bare hands"
Her eyes widened in shock when I noticed the presence of her grandfather whose shadow was cast on the wall. "If you want me to make your death easier for you, then you should smile!"
I whispered into her ears. "If you smile so brightly then I would think about easy ways to make your death less painful!" With fear evident in her eyes, she darted her eyes towards her grandfather, smiling so brightly that I could feel her fear.
Mr Everest sighed. "I am sorry for what happened my dear. I already warned Theo from bringing thugs to my house"
Ines smiled awkwardly before stuttering. "Yes....Yes....I," She stood up glancing at me, and even though I was smiling at her, she could see the fury that blazed in my eyes.
I muttered through gritted teeth. "Your death is now inevitable"
Mr Everest jerked her back to reality as she glanced at him. "What is wrong my dear? Is there any problem"
Seeing how Ines lost composure already, I answered for her. "The scar on her stomach must have been traumatizing for her, so coming face to face with her abuser must have been horrific! I understand how she feels and to think that someone that I trusted must have done something like that to her, I apologize on his behalf"
Ines exhaled sharply. "Yes, I need to leave now...." She managed to say as she walked towards him and pecked him right on his cheek.
"I need to rest, grandfather! I will call you later" She grabbed her purse and walked out of the dining room.
I followed after her as soon as I assured Fiona's grandfather that everything was going to be okay. As soon as I was outside the house, I struggled to meet Ines's pace who walked towards the garden.
"Ines!" I yelled at her.
She yelled back at me. "Leave me the f**k alone"
"Ines" I called, rushing towards her as I gripped her by the arm, turning her to face me while I held her firmly by the shoulders.
I wanted to scream at her but my words got stuck in my throat when I saw the tears that cascaded down her cheeks.
I was at a loss for words to say and in that moment, confusion was my companion.
"Why are you crying......" my words were barely above a whisper.
"Leave me alone!" She attempted to shove my hands off but my grip around her arms was firm.
"You can't tell me to leave you alone after everything that happened this afternoon! You lied to me and hid the fact that you had an ex. If you had told me that you had an ex, whatever happened this afternoon would have never happened in the first place"
I continued. "Mr Everest might seem like he trusts you but believe me when I say that he would get to the root of all this"
Ines muttered. "I agreed that I lied because after everything that he did to me. I didn't consider him as someone that has been in my life"
I crossed my hands over my chest, raising a brow. "Lucas said you are the one who ruined him and you claim that he was the one who ruined you! Make this make sense"
Ines dashed the tear that tracked down her face with the back of her hand. "If you could remember, you paid my debts for me!"
She continued. "Lucas borrowed a huge amount of money from me. Because of him, I borrowed money from the loan shark but do you know what he did to me? He cheated on me with my colleague just when I was about to propose to that i***t"
I was taken aback. "You wanted to propose to him?....."
"Yes, I was ready to give my life for him yet he dared to do this to me! I would never forgive him" Her chest heaved up and down.
Why did I feel sympathetic towards her when she was the one who hid the truth from me?
"I don't care! It doesn't change the fact that you lied to me and you will suffer the consequences of your actions!"
Amidst my words, I received a call from Theo which I answered without hesitation.
"What do you want from me?" I said coldly.
Theo scoffed before he chuckled. "This is how you plan on outsmarting me? For your information, I have heard a lot from Lucas and I have seen the evidence that the fraud tried too hard to hide by telling lies against him"
"So?" My fingers clenched.
He continued. "You sound so confident for someone about to be exposed. I promise you that I will stop the marriage from ever happening"
His words made me burst into a peal of hysterical laughter. "So?"
Theo responded. "I hope that you keep on laughing because, for your information, Mr. Everest is going to conduct a DNA test, using Fiona's samples and that fraud, Ines"
I froze, releasing my clenched fist.
"What...." I muttered through gritted teeth.
He laughed. "Do you know why I called you? I came to congratulate you concerning your doom because not only would you be exposed but you and that fraud, Ines would be arrested”
“Believe me, baby brother, I would make sure that you spend the rest of your life behind bars!”
