Chapter 11, I Think I Love You! Keith's POV I could not stop smiling. I was so excited for this weekend. The week seemed to fly by. That was perfectly fine with me. I had a date with the girl of my dreams. She happened to move in right next door to me. Just like so many love stories. Romantic songs. It finally happened to me. This date had to be great. So she would go out with me again. She had to see the real me. Not the me that everyone talked about. Not all of them knew the real me. I guess my mother was one of the rare to know the real me. As well as my siblings of course. Something about Iris made me feel I could place my trust in her. And I was willing to let her know the real me. Who knew where this was going to go. I head downstairs. I see Rueben talking to my mother. Laurie was there as well. I wondered what was going on. Laurie looked a bit upset. She glances up and motions for me to sit beside her when she spots me coming in. I sit beside her and my mother. ♡♪♬♪♡ "You know with graduation coming and summer coming soon we have booked more gigs. And one came up for this weekend!" announces Rueben. I groan. "We would be happy to. I forgot all about it. You mentioned it before though. But the deal was not set in motion yet" says mother. "I need to say something. Don't you all check in with us? We do have school and a life of our own going on. Not just the band." Laurie sticks up for me softly. "Mom, I can't do this gig" I warn them. "Why not?" she asks. She looked confused. "Because, I have a date with Iris" I sigh. "It is our first date" I mutter. "Oh, Keith sorry man but this guy has to have our show this saturday" warns Rueben. "No" I state sternly. "I want to keep this date" "Why not invite her to the show. She could do a duet with you. Then after the show you two go on the date. It should not be a long show" points out Laurie thoughtfully. "That is a great idea!" says Rueben. "plus it is more exposure for Iris" "I don't know" I sigh. What if it cut into my private time with Iris. I did not get much private time. I wanted a chance to be alone with her. Not with everyone around. It seemed like our dates were always getting ruined. ♡♪♬♪♡ "I will ask her" I sigh. "Good luck, Keith" says Laurie. She smiles. I nod. I go to head next door to talk to Iris. I hoped she was not going to be mad or disappointed in me or our manager. I walk up to her house soon. Then ring the doorbell. She comes out. "We have a date tomorrow not tonight right?" she laughs. She looked confused. I blush. "Right, about the date" "Are you breaking the date?" she softly asks as her pretty face falls. My heart sinks for her. "No, no not at all Iris" I say. "But there is a small change in plans" I rush out. I explain the whole thing to her. She looks sad a bit. As bad as I felt inside. Then she nods. "I would do that. It does not matter what we do. As long as I get to spend some time with you" she tells me. "I need to ask my mother and let her know about the gig" "There is talk about you being on tv with us at some point" I bring up. "Really me?" she laughs. She looks pleased. "Yes, they think you have a gift in singing" I brag on her. We go inside to talk to her mom. ♡♪♬♪♡ "Keith what a pleasant surprise" her mom greets me. "what can I do for you?" We tell her all about the show coming up. "Sure, you can do that. I might come with Emily" says her mother. "Mom" groans Iris. "this is also a date night" "I will only go to the show. I do not want to miss any of your shows" her mom says. "She wants to support her talented daughter. Can't blame a mom" I laugh. "Thanks Keith" says her mom. "Fine, then after that we have a date" Iris tells me. "Yes" I agree. "Keith! Hi! Is Danny with you?" asks Emily as she hugs me tightly. I hug her back. "No, he is not sorry kiddo" I chuckle. "Let me walk you out Keith" says Iris. We walk outside. Then sit on her porch swing gazing up at the night sky. ♡♪♬♪♡ "I never found it so hard to get a first date over with" sighs Iris. I sneak my arm around her shoulder to bring her comfort. "We will have our moment" I promise her. "I will always make time for you Iris" "Thanks Keith" she gratefully says as we swing a bit. The night was perfect. Such a clear sky with stars twinkling above our heads. "After this date it will be smooth sailing from there on" I tell her. "Do you ever get nervous to perform?" she wonders. "I still get so shy. Not just in front of you. But so many people will be there" she worries. "You have a beautiful face and voice to match. You are going to blow them all away. And they will love you as much as they do my family" I vow. "You are so sweet. You always know the perfect thing to say to make me feel better" says Iris. I grin. "I try to" I tell her. We sit a bit just to spend a little extra time together. Rocking on the swing with the porch light on there overhead by us. She leans into my side. Like she was meant to be there at my side. She was a perfect fit. Snuggled right in. I almost did not want this moment to end. The porch light flickers. Off then on. Iris laughs. ♡♪♬♪♡ "That means I better get inside" sighs Iris. She leans in and kisses me on the cheek. "Good night, Keith. See you tomorrow for our date" she tells me. She fixes my hair in the front where the breeze blew it in my eyes. She smiles then heads in her place. "Good night, Iris" I softly say as I get up and glance once more at her place. Then I head back to my house. "What did Iris say?" wonders Laurie. "She is for it. Her mother said it is alright" I tell them. "Great!" mother happily says with a grin. "Not the date I planned or imagined but none the less it is a date with Iris" I say. I could hardly wait for it to happen. Then many more dates were sure to follow after that one. I had a feeling about it. ♡♪♬♪♡♪♬♪♡♪♬♪♡♪♬♪♡
