Chapter 8, Bobby's Girl!
Iris POV
Tonight, was the night of the dance. I was meeting everyone there at the school. We were going to set up before everyone arrived.
I did not need to see Keith arrive at the dance with Hilary clinging to his arm. It was going to hurt to see them together.
When I get to the school Keith was not there yet. The band was setting up. I go to help Danny and Laurie set up.

"You, look so lovely tonight Iris" Danny sweetly tells me. He hands me a single rose.
"Thank you, Danny," I giggle.
"That song you picked is going to tick off my brother. And it serves him right" giggles Laurie. "we practiced without him last night"
"I can't wait to see the look on his face when I sing it to" I chuckle.
"Iris are you sure this is the song you want to sing for the dance? It is a little old fashioned. It played when I was in school" laughs Rueben.
"I am sure" I tell him.
"We have a reason to pick that song" says Laurie.
"Alright then" Rueben says as he looks confused.
"May I sing it first?" I ask the band.
They nod.
"We can't wait" laughs Danny.
We high five one another.
"I found out why Keith is taking out that other girl" Laurie tells me as she takes me aside suddenly.
"I could care less" I scoff.
"It is because he is being blackmailed" she warns me.
"For?"
"Keith borrowed answers for a paper from that Bobby guy. And promised him a favor whenever he asked. So, his sister wanted a date with Keith for the dance. So, Keith had to go. If he tells mom then he will be grounded. He may get exspelled from school to" says Laurie. "Keith is in hot water"
"He should have studied" I say as I shake my head.
"He had been. He was struggling to keep his grades up and we had a concert. So, he cheated" sighs Laurie.
"That is something, but I am still singing the song" I tell her.
I did feel bad for Keith. He should have been honest with me about all this. He was not.
"I do not blame you. But I think my brother has real feelings for you" Laurie says. "I never have saw him so depressed before"
"Not even when the princess left to go home before?" I ask her.
"Oh you know about her to?" she asks me. I nod.
"Did a little reading. I think it is best if Keith and I are just friends" I say.
"Me to. Good thinking" says Danny.

Suddenly Keith comes in with Hilary. He looked so handsome all dressed up. My heart sticks in my throat. Hilary looked a lot like her goofy brother Bobby. She was not very pretty.
"Hi Keith, hello Hilary" everyone greets them.
"Keith wore blue because it is my favorite color" brags Hilary.
"But we have outfits to wear in the band" pipes up his mom.
"Sorry mom just for the night" says Keith.
Hilary was a little bossy.
"Hey Iris" says Keith.
"Hi" I answer dully.
"You look fantastic" says Keith.
"Thank you." I say to him. Bobby comes in then others start coming in.
"Keith, Iris is singing first" says Laurie.
"What is she singing? No one told me" says Keith as we all hop on stage.
"Bobby's Girl" I answer. I go up to the mic.
He was frowning. I wink over at Laurie.
"You're not a kid any more" the back up singers begin.
"You're not a kid any more"
"When people ask of me. What would you like to be. Now that your not a kid any more" I begin to sing. "I know just what to say. I answer right away. There is just one thing I been wishing for. I wanna be Bobby's girl....." I croon into the mic.
Bobby right in the front. He was digging what I was singing.
Keith did not seem pleased.
I was trying so hard not to laugh.
Then we sing other songs. I take a break. I dance with Bobby as he asked. Of course Keith looked really ticked off. Then we took breaks. I sang or Keith did. Keith was dancing with Hilary. Then he seemed to dance with all her little buddys.

"One more Keith" begs Hilary. "It is Karen's turn next" orders Hilary as I dance closer beside them.
"I am tired I need a drink" begs Keith.
"Come on they all want to dance" begs Hilary. "Then we get the slow ones though" she barks orders.
I did not like how she was treating him.
Ordering him about.
"May I cut in?" I ask them. I step up.
"Yes, sure" Keith says looking grateful I showed up. Hilary was ticked.
I take his hand then we dance away from Hilary and Bobby.
"I saw her ordering you around. That is not right" I tell Keith.
"Thank you for saving me. I do not deserve it" he sighs. He looked so tired out.
"That is what friends are for" I say happily.
"Friends" he winces.
"Yes" I add.
"I don't want to be friends with you" he states. "I want a chance"
"I can't. I can't trust you Keith. My dad cheated on my mom. He lied over and over. And she told me never date someone you can't trust" I point out.
"How can I make things right? We are not your parents" he adds.
"You hurt me. Why should I give you a chance to do it again?" I ask him.
"I promise I won't. I want to prove it to you" he begs me. "Please"
"I don't know" I sigh.
The next monday at school I gave it some thought after I had talked to my mom. She pointed out Keith was not my dad. I should give him a chance. But when I looked around he was not at school. I find Laurie in the hall way.

"Where is your brother? I need to talk to him" I tell her.
"Keith? He told everyone the truth. And he is home for a week now. He will be back next week to school" says Laurie. "I have to get his homework" she grumbles.
"Let me. I need to talk to him" I offer.
"Alright" she says.
I get Keith's work then I go to his house. I get a ride from Laurie. When I come in Keith was talking to Danny and his mom. His face lights up when he sees me come in.
"I brought your homework" I tell him.
I hand his books to him.
"Thanks" he says. "it is good to see you Iris"
"Same" I softly say.
"Can we talk?" he asks me.
I nod. We head to his bedroom. I sit beside him on the bed.
"Laure told me you know about the princess. My past and all" he begins.
"We are not our past. And we are not our parents. My mom taught me that" I softly say.
He smiles. "I learn from my mistakes"
"Can I ask you something?" I say.
"Sure" he answers me.
"Can you forgive me for being judgmental?" I ask him.
"I can if you can forgive me for lying" he offers.
We shake on it.
"Deal" I answer.
"Can I ask you something this time?" he wonders.
"Sure"
"Can I have a chance when I am not grounded. To take you out on a date?" he asks me.
"Yes"
"Yes?" he asks happily.
"Yes" I say with a grin.
I let him hug me. I hug him back. It felt so good to be in his arms.
"It will be a week before we can date" he warns me.
"But I can see you when we have band practice here" I remind him.
"Right" he says joyfully.
"And I can see Laurie" I point out.
"I like the way you think" he laughs.
"Keith, thank you for being honest with me" I softly say. "that means a lot"
"I care about you. I know you do for me. I want to see where it could lead from there" he tells me. "I hope you want that to"
"I do" I answer. "I want that to"

He takes my hand in his. Simply holding my hand. He smiles making my heart skip a beat.
Laurie comes by the room.
"I see he did it again" she jokes.
"Laurie can I stay for dinner?" I ask her.
"Mom won't mind! Sure" she tells me. "I will go tell her"
She heads down the stairs. Now I could spend the afternoon with Keith. But not alone. With his family to.
He holds me one more time.
"I hope this week flies by fast" he says as he hugs me. I hug him.
"Me to" I giggle. "we have something to look forward to. A lot to look forward to"
