Chapter 6: Strict Orders

948 Words
(Maria POV) After waiting for an hour, I finally pulled that phone out and dialled my senior’s number with trembling fingers. My heart was racing against my ribcage like a beating drum. I finally pressed the call button and started praying in my heart for him to pick up my call. Finally, he picked up after the third ring. My eyes were brimming with tears. “H-hello!” I said in a cautious voice when he picked up the call. “Who is calling me at this hour of the night?” I heard his sleepy tone. “S-sir! I am Maria Blake,” I answered, and then I heard some shuffling at his end. “Maria??? Officer Blake, Is that you?” He asked, and I nodded my head before humming in response. “Freaking hell, girl! You scared the sh*t out of me. I searched every corner of this city to find you. Where are you now, and why are you contacting me at this hour of the night? Are you alright? Do you need any help?” He shot all the questions in one go. “Sir Jonathan! I am stuck in this damn place and I don’t know how to get out of this situation,” I answered, and then I started telling him everything one by one. “I know you will think that I am drunk or something, but swear to god, I am telling you the truth and please help me to get out of this goddamn awful place,” I answered. “Okay! Please turn on your GPS and send me your location. I have to know your exact location to trace you,” I quickly sent my location to him. “Holy hell! You are in the middle of the Black Forest, and no one has ever crossed this path of the forest before,” He mumbled, and I gulped hard. “Which means you will not be able to send help to me, right?” I asked, and my hopes dimmed. “No, Silly! It means I have to take some extra precautionary measures for your safety while sending help. Don’t worry! I will contact the seniors the first thing in the morning, and then you will be back here,” His words lifted some burden off my shoulders. “Thank you so much, Sir! You have no idea how much I need these encouraging words.” “No need to thank me, Officer Blake. Just don’t forget that you are still working on your mission. I know it took a different and unexpected turn, but you are still on duty. Keep your hopes up and focus on your target. You are one of the most intelligent and brave officers in the Police Department.” I nodded in yes, and with this, I ended the call because I heard distant footsteps. I hope Sir Jonathan will not mind this abrupt end to our conversation. I hid my mobile under my pillow and took a few deep breaths to calm myself down. After a few moments, someone opened the door of my room. “Are you awake, Buttercup?” Joseph asked, and I didn’t answer his question. “I know you are not asleep,” He answered his own question when I didn’t respond to his question. “A patient is trying to sleep here,” I answered in a groggy voice. He chuckled when he approached me. My breath hitched in my chest at his closeness, but I didn’t show any visible reaction to this. “You are such a mischievous little devil,” He said and flicked my forehead. I winced and looked towards him. “Am I looking like a toddler to you? I am a perfectly grown young woman, so don’t dare to treat me like a child,” I warned him, and his eyes darkened after hearing my words. His gaze moved from my head to my toes, and then he looked directly into my eyes. “I know you are a perfectly grown, gorgeous woman, but you are a bit naïve. Well! We will talk about it some other time, so for now, try to sleep and heal quickly,” He said, and with this left my room. “Naive? Why did he say something like that? Did he already figure it out or something? No, Maria, No! Stop trying to scare yourself without any valid reason. How could he find out about my call in such a short span of time? Relax!!!” I said to myself, but still, my mind got stuck at that point. “Officer Maria Blake! You are still on duty, so focus on your mission,” I reminded myself about my senior’s strict orders. I looked around, and I caught sight of an empty injection. Suddenly, an idea came to my mind, and a smile crept to my lips. “F*cking hell, Maria! You are such a genius. Now I will show these dumb werewolves why they should stay away from human beings like us. Just wait and watch. I know it will take some time for my senior to send help to me. Till then, I will heal my body as fast as I can, and then I will put my plan into action,” I thought, and with this, my eyelids started turning heavy. I closed my eyes with a smile. “She is such a naïve angel,” I heard a masculine voice say, but I was too sleepy to pay any attention to it. “But she is our Angel,” Someone corrected the voice. With this, the room was engulfed in silence.
