Chapter 3: Mistake!

1593 Words
(Maria POV) I have to leave this place as soon as possible and find a way to inform my seniors about it. I started chewing the side of my fingernail in tension. “What’s your name?” I asked the female who entered my room with a tray of food. “My name is Lyra,” She said with a kind smile plastered on her face. She was in her early fifties but had a really gentle and kind aura. “Such a unique name,” I said, and she put the tray in front of me. “I came here to ask your food preferences,” She said, and I looked towards the food. She made bagels, fluffy omelets, apple pancakes with a cup of coffee. “Wow! I have never had such a hearty meal before. But, I am good with anything. I am not picky at all. Besides, I am not going to stay here for long,” I informed her, and her smile faltered a bit. “But, Luna! Alpha informed me that…” “I was calling you and searching throughout the whole house, Lyra,” Luca entered in the room. “Oh, I am sorry, Alpha!” She quickly apologized. “Luna…” She turned her attention towards me. I shook my head with a smile. “My name is not Luna, Lyra! My name is Maria, but you can call me ‘Aria, Mia, and Ria like my colleagues called me,” I informed her, but she gave me a confused look. “She is right, Lyra. Her name is Maria and you can call her by her name. Now go and prepare Joseph’s breakfast, he is throwing a fit already without her morning coffee,” He said to her, and she left the room with a nod. “Yes, Alpha!” I repeated her words. “Why is she calling you, Alpha?” I asked Luca and he stopped in his tracks. “Because I am an Alpha Male,” He answered, and my mouth gaped after hearing his answer. “You guys are so arrogant,” I commented, and he chuckled. His deep voice made my heart flutter with emotions. ‘What is wrong with me?’ I chided myself after noticing my thoughts. “Nah! We are not arrogant, just self-aware,” I narrowed my eyes after hearing his words. “Thank god! You are not my type,” I mumbled when he was about to leave the room, but he turned and strode towards me at such a fast speed that made my head spin. “What the hell! How can you move so fast?” I gasped in shock. “Then, what’s your type, Angel?” He asked, and I looked at his face. His muscular hands were on both sides of my pillow while his sturdy frame pinned me. “You are crowding me!!!” I tried to push him away by putting both hands on his chest, but it seemed like he was made of steel. “I asked you a question, sweetheart,” he reminded me, and I turned my face away as a feeble attempt to show my disdain. “Don’t test me, Angel!” He added, and I sighed before turning my face towards him. “Why do you care about a captive’s opinion?” I asked, and he pressed his lips in a thin line before moving a few inches away to give me room to breathe. “Not any captives' but yours,” He answered. “Why?” I asked, but he didn’t answer my question. “I like males with chivalry,” I answered, and a host of smiles appeared on his face. “Okay!” He said, and with this, he left my room. “Is he bipolar?” I asked myself before shaking my head at his behavior. I turned my attention towards my food. I need all the energy in the world to escape this place. After filling my stomach, I pushed the tray aside but suddenly, I noticed a small thing. A steel toothpick was present in the tray. My heart rate increased with excitement and I quickly hid it before anyone could see it. Lyra came after a few minutes for the tray. I didn’t show any sort of reaction to my face. After making sure that no one would come to my room now, I picked it up and started opening the lock of my leg cuffs. But, it wasn’t an easy feat. My fingers started throbbing with pain, but after almost two hours, I finally opened them. “F*ck!” I cursed under my breath before putting that toothpick away. “Now, I have to run away from this damn palace,” I looked around and, thank goodness, there weren’t any cameras in my room. I slowly got up and walked towards the floor-to-ceiling windows. I looked around for any clue of traffic, there was nothing but forest. “Am I in the middle of nowhere?” I asked myself, and I didn’t even know the exact location of this palace, but I had to take this risk to claim my freedom. I slowly opened the window and hid behind the curtain to see if anyone noticed it or not. After about five minutes, I peeked outside. I was on the first floor, so it would not be difficult for me to run away from this place. I picked up the bedsheet and used it as a rope to climb down the wall. I looked around and started running towards the north. I was clearly following my survival instincts, but I knew I would be able to find a road soon. All the years of training helped me and I made my way through the woods, but after running for almost fifteen minutes, I noticed something weird. Instead of getting out of the woods, I entered in the darkest part of the forest. I turned around to see anything for a clue, but there wasn’t anything. “Sh*t, sh*t, Sh*t!!! I lost in the f*cking woods,” I kicked the nearby tree, and I knew, soon the sun would set, and I would be surrounded by darkness. I gulped hard and turned on my heels. I didn’t notice the blood started oozing out of my feet. “Good… f*cking good!!!” I started getting frustrated when I heard a growl. “Oh sh*t! I forgot about the wild animals,” A thought popped into my mind and I shivered with fear. “No, no, no, please!!! I can’t take anymore of this,” I mumbled under my breath and picked up a thick wooden stick as my self-defense weapon. “Look! What do we have here?” I heard a voice that scared the sh*t out of me. I turned to look at the person, but there was no person in sight, but just three brown wolves. “Are you lost, little girl?” He asked, and I felt like my head was playing tricks on me. “How can a wolf t-talk like h-humans?” I asked myself. “Human being… Wow! I was already looking for a hearty feast,” one of them said, and stepped towards me. They had a really weird smell… like rotten meat, dirt and mud. “Run, little girl! We love a good chase,” He said and his eyes changed colors. I turned on my heels and dashed towards the other direction. I didn’t know where I was heading, but they were on my heels. My speed was nowhere near them, but I was trying my best to save my life. Adrenaline rushed through my veins, but I felt like today was my last day on earth. Suddenly, I fell a few feet forward when he pushed me with his paw. A loud scream escaped my lips and blood oozed out of my back. “Yummy! I love to have a taste of fresh blood and some hot meat,” He said and walked towards me. I tried to back away from him, but my body became paralyzed with pain. He ran towards me when a large wolf jumped in front of me out of nowhere and stood between me and that wolf. I gasped loudly and looked around. “Alpha Joseph! What a pleasant surprise?” The brown wolf said, and I felt like my brain stopped functioning at once. “She is my mate! Step away from her, or I will not think before tearing you apart,” I heard his voice and I felt like I had already heard this voice. “Alpha! How can I let her go when I already had a taste of her blood? I will not back down without a fight,” He said and charged forward. Both of them jumped and started fighting with each other. My hand started shivering, and my head started spinning with all the blood loss and by witnessed the bloody scene unfolding right in front of me. A few wolves joined the fight too, and after almost ten minutes, all the brown wolves were dead. The black wolf turned his head towards me, but I was too scared and weak to run, so I tried to back away, but my body lost all the strength and I fell on the ground. “Buttercup!!!” He said, and my eyes were barely open. When I lost consciousness, he changed into a human and looked like Joseph.
