Adya's eyes would have flashed with emotion a kilometer away, but for the moment, it was limited to Vansh Raghuvanshi, who quickly covered his feelings with a professional glare. Rahul Raghuvanshi introduced Adya, "Meet Adya Mishra, my most trusted employee and now yours," motioning for Adya to offer Vansh the second bouquet. "H--hello Mr. Raghuvanshi—(clearing her throat)" she said, sounding shocked. She never imagined that Vansh Raghuvanshi would succeed his father as the Raghuvanshi empire's heir. This was not the Vansh she knew all those years ago. Vansh grinned at his father and took the flower bouquet in his hands, saying, "Thank you, Ms. Mishra." Only a centimeter separated his fingers from hers. He was ignoring her. It was becoming difficult for Adya to breathe, so she hurried off stage. Adya hurried over to the bathroom, slammed the door, and shut her eyes while resting against it. Adya recalled the emotionlessness in his gaze. "Breath, Adya, breath," She told herself the same thing until the ache built in her chest subsided. Her anxiety getting the best out of her. Banging her head on the door behind her, a tear escaped her eyes, her past was standing just a few meters away from her. the guy she loved with all her heart once was now standing as her would-be boss. The guy she shared numerous kisses with, with whom she shared her first time. Who once knew her body more than her. She did not know how many hours she just stood there. A knock on the bathroom door made her snap out of her misery. "Adya Mam? are you inside?" Adya recognized it as Esha's voice. She pulled all the strength she had in her body and leaned off the door. She wiped her tears harshly as another knock on the door got her attention. "Adya Mam?" Esha asked once again. She had not seen Adya anywhere and now that the event was over and everyone had returned to their work, Adya was still not to be found anywhere. "Yeah," her voice sounded Heavy as she opened the door only to find a worried looking Esha's graze set on her. "Are--Are you fine?" She asked looking at the slight wetness in her eyes. "I'm good," Adya replied with a fake small smile. "Everyone has returned to their work and the event is over, I settled all the responsibilities you gave me, mam," Esha said with a proud look in her eyes. Adya could only give her a nod as she took her handbag, closed the door behind her, and went to wash her hands. "What about Mr. Raghuvanshi?" She asked, her referral was to Vansh but Esha mistook it for Mr. Rahul Raghuvanshi. "Mr. Raghuvanshi went back to his home," Esha replied. "I see," She said wiping her hands clean. "Anyways, I will see you tomorrow," Adya said to Esha to which she exchanged the pleasantries. . Adya was about to exit the building but then she recalled she had left her apartment keys in her cabin. “Ugh!” Taking the lift to the 16th floor she walked to her cabin but suddenly all the lights on the floor turned off. Her heart stopped beating for a second, she was scared of some things, and darkness was one of them. “Ankit? Ankit!” She called the floor guard that had been working there for a year now. Suddenly a sharp light hurt her eyes as she put her hand in front of her eyes as a reflex action. “Yes mam,” he came holding a torch in his hand, pointing it straight at Adya’s face. “What happened to the lights?” She asked holding her bag tightly. Her skin was showing evidence of the fear she felt at that moment. “No idea, mam,” he said his usual reply. Adya fought the gesture to roll her eyes. “Go and please check,” She said as Ankit hurriedly walked off, her head had started aching because of the flashlight he pointed straight at her head. She was the head manager, her work was to look after all the reports of the organization, her cabin, the CEO’s cabin and the CFO’s cabin, all on the same floor. They dealt with making deals and policies for the company, and the top-level managers. She noticed a dark presence behind her as her body went stiff. The familiar presence was back. Walking to her cabin she started looking for the keys but could not because of the darkness, the flashlight of his mobile shot itself in her face again as she closed her eyes. “Don’t throw light at my face,” She hissed at the person in front of her as a chuckle echoed in the cabin. “Just helping,” Vansh said as he stood on the other side of her table. “I don’t need your help,” She uttered, trying to find the keys at the place she had left them. “Independent, impressing,” he said in his old teasing way. Adya gulped, a small smile made its way to her lips as she finally found the keys in the last drawer. “You are still the same,” He said as she locked all the drawers. Adya stopped her work and looked at his face, “And so are you,” She said. “You mean, Handsome, charming, hot mess—“ “Akdu aur besharam,” (Arrogant and Shameless) she whisper yelled at him out of anger. The old wounds were green once again. The sudden change in his aura made Adya want to hurry back to her apartment and hide under the comfort of her bed but in reality, she was stuck in there with Vansh Raghuvanshi. “I tried only talking to you Adya,” Vansh said, his voice turned weak for a second. “It’s Ms. Mishra for you, Mr. Raghuvanshi,” Adya said in her hard voice. She wanted to be away from him at any cost. “This is a professional environment so please maintain it that way,” She said and walked off burning in resentment and anger. “Fine, Adya Mishra, Now you’ll be the one to break this so-called professional environment,” he said in a low voice. “I promise,” he finished off with a smirk.
