Knock! Knock! The knock pulled Adya out of her thoughts as she turned to look at the person who was at the door of her cabin. “Mr. Raghuvanshi,” Adya acknowledged him as she stood up to show him respect. “Shouldn’t you be resting? Or be at your home?” Vansh asked as he leaned against the doorway, he wanted to keep some distance between the two of them. Even though his heart begged him to hold her in his arms, kiss her whole face, and make sure she was fine. “I still have working hours left,” She said and started typing absurd words on the laptop. Vansh could see how her body was still shaking, her hands were not in her control. He took a deep breath before he closed the door behind him. “W—what are you doing?” She asked as he held her hand and pulled her to stand up. “Vansh!” she whisper screamed as he sat on the chair and pulled her into his lap. She started struggling for a few minutes as he held her hair making her still, moisture coated her eyes as she stared into his. “Forget our past for a few minutes and rant it out like you used to,” He said but she shook her head. “That person was my best friend, Ansh,” Adya said holding in a sob. “It is me, Adya, please let it out,” Vansh pleaded as he took her face in his hold. Adya’s lips shivered as she slowly put her head on his chest, her hold on his blazer became tight, one after another, and tears started to roll down her eyes. “He *sob* he *sob*” she tried to speak but the words were not forming in her head. “An—Ansh,” She kept sobbing on her chest, her arms encircled around his neck as he too hugged her. Sharing the warmth of his body, tears kept falling down her cheeks. “He—he, “Hiccups after hiccups escaped her lips as Vansh rubbed her back. “I hate you, I hate you!” She cried even more on his chest as he wiped the tears that rolled down her cheek. “Meri Jaan,” (my life) he whispered before planting a kiss on her forehead. She was too disturbed to listen to his words. “I am here, Jaan,” He whispered against her ears as she cried on his chest. “Don’t leave him,” She sobbed even more on his chest as he tightened his hold on her. “Nope, not possible,” his voice held a promise as she hid her face in his neck. Having him again made her a little calm. “I hate you,” She whispered, her voice still hoarse from crying, it still held a hint of crying as if she was trying to hold in the pain. “I know,” He said and pecked her left cheek. “You did not stop when I asked you to,” She complained again playing with the button of his shirt. “I couldn’t,” He admitted, not finding the need to lie. She was his best friend before anything else, the only person to whom he could say anything without thinking and he knew she would never judge him. That was the level of understanding between them. For a few minutes, none of them said anything but sat there in each other’s grip not wanting this moment to end. When Vansh was sure her tears had stopped, he turned to look at her face, and her graze was set on the dustbin near the desk. “Jaan,” He called her softly, almost afraid of touching her, he still took the risk of putting a strand of her hair behind her ear and kissing her nose. “He touched me,” she swallowed the pain and helplessness, hiding herself more in his neck. His hold on her waist was enough proof of how angry he was. “He touched me here and then pinched,” She said showing him her upper tight and the red mark that was still there. Vansh clenched his fist, that bastard was going straight to hell for this. “Then he whispered, ‘How much for one night?’ “She closed her eyes and held the button of his shirt even more tightly that it broke. “I swear he’ll suffer,” He kissed her head and hugged her as if trying to hide her from any evil. “Why are you not blaming me?” Her question caught him off guard and he looked at her surprised. “Why would I?” he asked. “You had clearly tried to stop me but I did not listen, it’s all my fault here, if I had listened to you then none of this would have—“ A hand on her lips stopped her words as he glared at her. “Stop self-sabotaging,” he said as she tried to take his hand off her lips but he did not let her. “Harmless flirting and exploitation have a difference, learn it,” He uttered. “If not you then someone else, bloody bastard has a list of s****l harassment and r**e cases going on him,” Vansh said as Adya looked at him, her throat turned dry all of a sudden. “You investigated him?” She asked but he shook his head. “Hacked his laptop and phone, found evidence that is now in front of the whole media, he’ll be in prison for the rest of his life if not hanged, I made sure of it,” He said as Adya’s eyes turned the size of soccer balls. “What?” “I was once a hacker, Meri Jaan,” He said pecking the side of her lips as she blushed. “Of course, I know,” She whispered back. Now that her anxiety had calmed down, the position they were in was quite compromising. She moved away from his arms as he let her. “Whatever happened here…? I... umm…” Adya did not have the right words to say it, was this progress? Was this her heart melting? Or does it mean nothing but a moment of weakness? Difficult emotions? Seeing her uncomfortable face, Vansh gestured, “What happened here? Make my appointments for tomorrow with the marketing team, okay?” He said as if he was there to just inform her about the meeting nothing else. Adya took a deep breath as she nodded, “Sure sir,”
