An alarm echoed in the conference room making the discussion stop. “Our client will be here in five,” Adya said as she checked the schedule. Vansh nodded. “I’ll go fetch Mr. Bakshi,” Adya said as Vansh moved along with her. “What are you doing?” She whispered to him as they got inside the elevator. “Fetching the client,” He replied. “But, that’s not your job but mine,” She said turning her graze at him. Her hands were busy turning them into tiny fists. “Leaving my Jaan alone to fetch a guy? Nah,” Vansh said making her bite the inside of her cheek. “You’re doubting my abilities?” She asked as he pressed the stop button before he turned to hold her graze. “Or my loyalty towards you?” Vansh smiled at the slip of her tongue. “I—I mean, my… loyalty towards this… company owned by y—you,” She corrected her words, biting her lip at her earlier words “I don’t doubt you,” He spoke but Adya shook her head. “You do, that’s why you followed me thinking I would shoo away the client because you are—“ “Asking for a second chance?” he completed the sentence for her as she looked at him pure anger in her eyes. “Making absurd demands every now and then, and please stop with this second chance s**t, I am sick of hearing this all the time!” Adya yelled the last part at him as he swallowed. “Jaan, I—I did not know—“Vansh tried to say, he did not know he was overdoing the apology thing. I just want you back “Did not know what? You burned your chest, you demoted me from the position, making me serve this notice period and all this closeness,” She said, her breathing turned heavy. “You cage me every chance you get,” She was throwing the hurtful words at him knowingly. They had no future together and that was the truth, why he can’t just understand this simple thing? “Please, just leave me alone like you did back then!” She said throwing her fists on his chest as she pressed the start button. Vansh pressed the stop button again, “Okay I admit I may have overdid the apology thing—“ “You are not asking for an apology, you are hell-bent on making me accept you, you are forcing your feelings on me,” She spat in anger. “Don’t you dare term my tries as force, Jaan,” He could not take her insulting his feelings for her. “What else are you doing? Vansh,” She asked and pressed the button again. The elevator started moving. “Can’t we just talk?” His voice turned soft this time. Adya swallowed. “There’s nothing left to talk,” She replied. “Oh really? Then why is your breathing hard when I am near you? Why do you not look into my eyes and hold my gaze like you do with everyone else?” His words made her breathless, again. “Why did your hands shiver before throwing that hot coffee at me?” f**k he noticed that? Her eyes turned wide at his words. “I am human as well,” She replied, turning her gaze to the other side. “Why do you always send a painkiller with my lunch? Why?” He asked punching the steel wall making her flinch. “I know how to punch as well okay!” She said and punched the wall as well, pain shot through her arm but she did not let it show on her face. “And I did all that because that was my job, work, that’s it,” She tried to make it seem as real as it could. From inside her heart as well as her hand was hurting badly. “Just your job?” he countered her statement. He did not believe, of course. “Just my job,” She affirmed. The silence followed the next few seconds before the ting of the elevator echoed in the closed space. Adya walked out to the next floor, she wanted to be away from him at all costs. “I won’t stop trying, Adya,” This time he was taking her name. She turned around and walked a few steps near him, she did not care if people were looking, and their outburst in the elevator must be heard by many. “You know, I had sworn to make you believe in my love but still I failed, you will as well,” She was challenging him. Maybe she did not want him to give up on her as well. “You did not fail,” he stated. She was the one who made him believe in love again, she made him fall for her so hard. “I did fail because you did not even feel comfortable enough to tell me your real identity, that you’re a successor, a hier,” She said, letting it out. “For f**k’s sake, I wanted you to be with me for me not for money,” Vansh replied, stating his reasons. “And what after that? we stayed in the same house for 2 years, Vansh, was 2 years not enough for you?” she asked. “I want a lifetime with you,” he requested as her facial expression changed to emotionless. “It’s too late now,” She replied. “It’s never too late, Jaan,” He said but she shook her head. “I couldn’t express it then,” He was defending himself now. “Then why are you expressing it so well now?” She questioned, wanting to be away from him. She felt as if she just could not breathe near him. Vansh Raghuvanshi was her death, hope, and life, altogether.
